Some of the other rooms have bath tub/jacuzzis for an additional fee. The breakfasts were great, our second day's breakfast was a Valentine theme with a heart shaped egg and pancakes, in the room, there was a chocolate rose, very thoughtful. If you are in the Independence, Kansas City area and looking for some place to stay, this would be a great place to unwind, escape from the craziness of life for a weekend. I want to revisit this B&B sometime in the spring or early summer when the leaves are on the trees so I can enjoy the patio, I looked out the French doors into the patio area and thought it would be nice to sit out there on a beautiful night.

The people who stay at Inn at 425 appreciate the beauty of the turn of the century decorations and they love Kansas City. Great conversation! Our stay at 425 was a special time of our trip which we valued as equal to any of the attractions of KC. It was to converse and get to know Stephan and Carl, the owners. Here are the details: - This is a fine location that is close to attractions of KC: WWI Museum, Truman Library and Steamboat Arabia exhibit were our favorites. - Taking Lyft to dinner is quick and easy. (We enjoyed Q29 BBQ.) - The details I appreciated: coddled eggs served in beautiful coddlers, quality cutlery being placed perfectly (knife side in!), tasteful placement of antiques that give the room warmth and character. - Clean! I mused the bathroom floor was clean enough to eat off of... but I did not. - Attentive service! I brought back a six pack of ale and put into the cooler. At that time, there were only wine glasses standing by, but in the morning, Weizen glasses appeared in the collection. - I can't say enough of the quality! The food was real! Thick slices of real ham, fresh fruit; and even the capers were high end. There is a lot to see and do in KC. Sofie and I look forward to returning to the Inn at 425 to see our new friends Stephen and Carl! Maybe we will take a day and just sit out in the garden at 425. It's that kind of place!

Ophelia's Restaurant had me excited before I even walked in. From the outside, it gives off a great…read morefirst impression--but unfortunately, that momentum stalled a bit at the door. My family and I entered and weren't greeted, despite there only being one other table seated. We ended up walking across the dining room ourselves before eventually being acknowledged. Not the strongest start. Once inside, the atmosphere had its ups and downs. The space itself is beautiful, but some details--like visible weeds and black tablecloths--took away from the overall polish. That said, things started to turn around once we got settled. I had the chance to meet the chef, who was incredibly personable and clearly passionate about his craft. We kicked things off with appetizers, and this is where the kitchen really began to shine. The lobster rangoons and tempura shrimp were both excellent--crispy, flavorful, and well-executed. For entrées, my daughter and sister-in-law both ordered the chef's burger and really enjoyed it. My niece had the steak frites and absolutely loved it. My wife ordered the lemon brick chicken with gnocchi and olive tapenade. After tasting it, I felt the gnocchi could have benefited from a quick sauté in clarified butter, finished with a squeeze of lemon and fresh herbs to bring out the depth the dish promised. I went with the Wagyu burger. The cook on it was spot-on, but the execution fell short. It came topped with three large slabs of bacon hanging well over the sides, making it difficult to eat without taking it apart. After adjusting it myself, I noticed it was under-seasoned--something as simple as a finishing salt would have elevated the richness of the Wagyu significantly. Overall, Ophelia's has a lot of potential. The food shows promise, the chef clearly knows his craft, and the space is visually appealing. With a few adjustments in both service and execution, this could easily become a top-tier spot. I'll be back--and I'd still recommend giving it a try. 4 out of 5 forks.

However, 5 hours later, I received an email that said I had cancelled the reservation, even though I did not! Apparently, the proprietor cancelled my reservation and immediately raised the rate to $752.22. It is a unethical business practice to accept a booking and then cancel it because they wanted to rent it for nearly $200 more. I made a complaint to Expedia, and they tried to reach the proprietor with no success to resolve the deceptive discrepancy. The room I had reserved is still available 10 days later, but they lost my trust and I would not ever consider staying there.

Each glass was either white or red so the taste would not get mixed together and no matter how we picked them up and set them down she remember which was which and never mixed them up. There were 4 of us with 8 very different glasses. This alone impressed me. 3. The place was decorated with Antiques and pictures, flowers and baskets and all sorts of knick knacks.
