I wanted to get something very elegant and fancy and in that respect, the Paperia delivered. However, even though two women were behind the counter doing naught but talking with each other, I was not greeted with so much as a "hi" "let alone a warm "hello" or "good morning." As I went around the store, no one offered any assistance or asked if they could help me find something. Then, when I approached the counter with my card (a little embellished number that cost $6.50), still the sales associate, or maybe manager, just scanned my item and told me the total, STILL without greeting me! It's not like I'm asking for a hug and a kiss when I walk into a store, but you need to acknowledge my presence, as well as the other customers. I guess I should have just gone to Walgreen's or something, where at least the crappy, apathetic service is matched by low prices and convenience.

It screams 'quaint and dignified' on the outside the way many Chestnut Hill stores do. I come here to buy greeting cards for any occasion and also for their abundant supply of thank-you-note stationery. There are plenty of handmade, artistic cards for birthdays, anniversaries, and other occasions that you don't find at other card stores. Despite the store's staid exterior, they actually *do* carry your regular humorous "ha ha, you're getting old" birthday cards along with the unique ones. They've got a decent selection of birthday and blank cards but when it comes to more 'minor' holidays like Mothers Day or Fathers Day, the selection is just so-so. The back room is devoted to custom-made and thank-you-note paper and cards, of which there are many. They're not cheap but the products are definitely high quality. The ladies who work there are usually nice and helpful, assisting you in finding something. You don't find many non-chain, local card stores these days anymore so I like to support Paperia for a cozier, more pleasant card-shopping experience than going to your run-of-the-mill Hallmark.

I wanted sconces that would hold taper candles, not the electric sort that leave you having to hide the trailing cord. So I decide to run to Sweet Magnolia to replace a candle that had recently burnt out completely when, lo and behold!, there is the most gorgeous pair of gold-leafed wall sconces hanging right before my eyes! This is why I love Sweet Magnolia - you can find such elegant pieces here when you least expect it. I also appreciate that their prices don't put a huge dent in your wallet. $58 for the pair? I'll take them! The store also carries the greatest soy candles ever by Aquiesse which last a rather long time and come in several delightful fragrances. They also carry an array of other home goods - Forte teas, place settings, bath and body products, stationery, baby gifts, and jewelry. Definitely a great little shop for finding last minute gifts or a treat for yourself. I've seen similar items at other stores like Anthropologie for twice the price, so why not patronize a local entrepreneur instead?

Whenever I need a little gift for someone (or myself) I know I can find it! To top it off she's really friendly, and always up for a chat. What an amazing establishment in Philadelphia…read more The Resource Exchange is located inside of a large warehouse with maker spaces and other establishments. You can't miss the HUGE colorful mural on the outside in the parking lot, but the RE itself is on the right side. Conveniently located by a 3 bus stop as well. I was in the market for some postcards and other papercraft supplies and brought some scrapbook paper I knew I wouldn't use with me to donate as well. The staff was very nice and organized. After seeing the true breadth of all of the various materials sold at the RE, I will definitely bring more miscellaneous craft stuff with me to donate next time. Have to make room for new stuff! I was able to purchase some postcards (they were 50 cents each or 3 for $1), a container to hold some of my other materials, and a set of Dublin stickers, all for $15 flat. Cannot stress enough how AFFORDABLE stuff is. In general I would say go in to look around and not want anything too specific, especially on a busy day like a Saturday, because it was a bit crowded. But they had materials truly for all typees of crafts: fabric, knitting, sewing, painting, papercrafts, jewelry, woodworking... as well as larger materials. Really affordable and hope to get the word out about this place! There are two gender-neutral restrooms located in the lobby of the building as well as part of the shared space.
