+ Very fresh, local seafood + Great sharing dishes…read more+ Warm ambiance + Friendly staff I came here on a Bank Holiday Monday evening for dinner and found not only the restaurant but also the town of Brixham very quiet because of the non-stop rain all day. Nevertheless, this did not dampen the enthusiasm of the waiting staff and we were warmly welcomed. One of the best thing about the menu is the hot seafood platter for two, available for either starter and/or main. The sharing starter of scallops, mussels and crevettes - all cooked to perfection - came in the most delicious garlic, herb cream sauce that my friend who wasn't that fond of seafood previously couldn't stop eating until every piece of seafood was gone. The main fish platter consists of local catches of the day, and on the day we went this include (yet more) scallops, a piece of skate, a whole lemon sole and a whole plaice. Just two whole fish alone on the menu would have cost more than £40, so sharing the dish at £35 felt like a steal. The only small downside was that our plaice and lemon sole were slightly overcooked so the fish was a bit chewy, but still edible. One of us also had the monkfish with parma ham, clams and samphire for main, but because there was no monkfish that evening it was replaced with turbot without additional charges. The turbot was perfectly cooked - tender and succulent. Beamer is a bit on the pricey side but the excellent customer service, fantastically fresh, local seafood as well as quayside view by the big window are well worth a visit.

Wow! What perfectly…read morecooked fish. I took my other half in here for her birthday. The owner Simone took my booking weeks ago without realising that I had booked for a night she was shut. Instead of just being closed and spoiling our day, she opened especially. This tells you that she cares about her customers. She came out and had a chat, we even ended upin her kitchen! (which is immaculate) The whole place is a professionally run business and we will return. Thanks Simone.

This following review is a fair and unbiased review from ordinary customers who visited the Rio…read morelooking for decent chips and service, we are not in anyway affiliated with Steve or Bridget. We went to Brixham after seeing the wonderful TV show Fishtown on Sky Atlantic, we fell in love with the whole town after watching the series, and during the course of the show we loved the way that Steve and Bridget interacted in their chip shop business. We were very lucky to find them there busily working serving customers. We ordered our food which was cooked to order, which I find is a good sign (reheated food is naff!) when we received it the quality of chips was second to none, we tried the others and can safely say these chips are the best in Brixham. They are very good value too, there are a great many different food establishments in Brixham which are all good in their own way, but when you way up cost and quality this friendly little chippy is Brixhams number 1. Getting back to Steve and Bridget, what a wonderful couple. They came across in the show as very loving and caring for each other, Steve really does love Bridget and this is as true in real life as it was on tv. We started to chat to them and they both came round to us and engaged in genuine friendly conversation, what a wonderful way to run a business. I noticed on qype that there are a couple of negative reviews that seemed almost personal, so during one night in a local pub I questioned a friendly local about the reviews (our conversation was very broad and took in the virtues/problems with qype, Trip Advisor and Expedia) and it turns out that some of the negatives were due in essence to a former disgruntled employee!!!! Steve and Bridget are not aware of my posting this review, but after the food, service and friendliness of the whole Rio experience, I feel compelled to fly the flag for them due to the fact that they are doing such a great job. Well done you guys, we think you are a wonderful couple, and hope your love lasts forever.
