Guys..my husband is a manly man, you know the Mulan Be A Man song? Yah I'm pretty sure that's his…read moretheme song. This tough guy though loooovves European spas and parading around in pretty themed pools and slippers. It'll be our little secret. When planning our trip to Sweden I found Yasuragi had many fantastic reviews, was featured in blogs and boasting numerous awards. We checked in here for one night and had a great welcome. The entrance is beautiful and you are greeted with slippers, a robe, and a black bathing suit. Our basic room was small but comfortable with a nice bed and beautiful shower. I definitely was all about the heated tile floors for my footsies. The spa activities were pretty extensive and there was so much more to see and do than we had time for with only one night. We didn't enjoy any of the massages or other spa treatments. There was a fun pedicure area with fish tanks we didn't get a chance to explore. Even the schedule filled with relaxation techniques, yoga, and mind and body exploration classes was something we couldn't spare time for. What we did enjoy was the very large spa area with beautiful modern and Asian inspired water features. Cold plunge pools complimented by different hot tubs were refreshing. There were saunas, steam rooms, and a beautiful large pool with different areas for relaxation. My favorite though was the cascading hot tubs outside with views of the water and perfect sunset and sunrises over Stockholm. The changing rooms were pretty nice as well with private hot tubs for relaxation. The meals we had at the restaurant that night and the next morning were both enjoyable and there were several items that were gluten free that I could easily eat. Breakfast included a huge display of delicious items buffet style. By the time we were forced to leave we had grown pretty comfy in our steamy delicious environment. Stepping out into the cold unforgiving Swedish winter was not at all pleasant.

The last at least brought some amusement, as we puzzled over what we had just been presented, as the first waiter left us to ponder our options: three courses, any you like, all served together, unless it's a dessert, the ramen Finnish. My partner had surmised that ramen would be served as a finisher, I that it was some Finnish peculiarity in the ramen department. When we ordered genmaicha tea, from another waiter, we heard that genmaicha also Finnish, concluding that they had actually run out of both, and that both waiters spoke the same brand of pidgin English. How does a Japanese restaurant ever run out of tea, though?! Later overhearing another table that ordered in Swedish, we also confirmed that yes, "X finish" indeed meant they had run out of X. We ordered the duck breast, chicken skewers, oizushi sushi, moriawase sushi, sorbet, and pannacotta, and a cucumber flavoured sparkling drink. These people do not know what a pannacotta is -- it was some very disappointing dense sponge cakes, over-whipped cream almost turned butter, ketchup-spritzeled with raspberry sauce. The soda was at best a palate cleanser, and all but one of the moriawase sushi piece types (three kinds, two each, plus the four oizushi pieces) were boring. The other dishes were a bit overpoweringly umami-savoury; much too heavy for the companion rice dish. Service took forever. The baths are nice, and the lighting somehow makes all the brutalist concrete look quite lovely. We also attended a stellar sound journey held in English, after attendees were polled for "anyone not speaking Swedish?", and us raising a hand. The rooms are nice and functional, but the bedding less soft than the lovely bamboo ones they sell in one of the companion stores.

I had to have a Swedish massage while in Sweden! Is it really a trip to Sweden without one (and…read moremaybe some meatballs!)? I of course took to Yelp to find the best place to do this. Definitely found the right one! This was a magical experience. The hotel is beautiful, and just screams luxury. I checked in early, because I wanted to have some extra time in the wet areas, and not feel rushed. Everyone was friendly, and I was greeted with a robe, flip flops, and a locker to place my items. The pool, sauna, steam room, hot tub, and cold plunge were all fantastic additions to prepare me for my massage. The massage was wonderful (it was a guy, which at first made me nervous but turned out great), and I left feeling completely relaxed. I did mine in the evening, which was perfect because I was able to shower and go straight to bed! My only complaint would be that it was quite warm in there, so I did sweat, but who doesn't want all the toxins out of your body?! Especially after all the lovely wine and mead on my vacation! No pics as cameras are not allowed!

We got there an hour early to enjoy the myriad of features they had before the massage. In the women's only locker there was a cold plunge, waterfall shower, and sauna. In the co-ed shared space there was a small indoor pool, a room which seemed like a giant jacuzzi, and a steam room. After using all the amenities, we had a wonderful 90 minute Swedish Massage upstairs in their treatment rooms. Fantastic massage and a must while in Stockholm.

Urban Om is a small gem right next to the main railway station in Stockholm…read more One of the founders is from New York and many of the guest teachers are from all over the globe, which gives a nice feeling of opening towards the visitors. All day long people come and go, taking part in classes, receive sessions and hanging out with friends, gracefully serviced by the reception and the karma crew. The program offers a wide variety of classes with (just some examples): vigorous Osho dynamic morning meditation, different yoga styles, chakra dance and silent sitting mindfulness practice. It's simply a great place to be. Check it out for yourself!

So, I tried this place out with a Groupon. They were offering a months membership at a discount…read more I'm happy with what I got for the price, and I think even the full price is reasonable considering what you get. There is a sauna and a nice locker room (I do wish it was a little bigger and had a shower curtain, I'm not as brave as the Swedish women who shower freely together). Sometimes the locker rooms can get a bit full and there is only one mirror that's usually occupied. The staff has been super accommodating and nice. Good customer service is important to me! Booking classes is easy and convenient through the website. I really think if your a yogi you will love this place. The classes themselves have been mostly good. I first took a "therapeutic yoga" class thinking it was more like muscle therapy, but it was definitely more like mental therapy... Stuff got a little weird. Everyone was moaning and breathing out so much it felt like I was having a stretch in the middle of an orgy on the subway in July. They could definitely use a little better air circulation if their going to keep having everyone share smells of what they just ate for lunch. That class got a little too "spiritual" for me. But, I still really like the place because the Flow yoga is pretty on point. However, they do tend to do some pretty advanced moves in there and do not offer modifications for all of them. It's like you just have to know them already (i know some, but not all). They also do not have very many levels of difficulty in their classes either, like I've seen at most other places. It's straight from yoga basics to full on flow yoga balancing on your head stuff. Needless to say, a lot of these sporty swedes could hack it, but I'm starting out again after quite a few years and found that standing on my head is just not going to happen at this moment in time. So overall, this place is good. I just feel like I need to try our a few more (maybe more of a sporty type of Pilates and yoga together in a studio) to make a judgment call of what I need personally. I'm just not into all that "free yourself, water, fire, spirit" stuff. If your like me you might find it a bit too extreme. I would stay away from the meditations and go more for the stretching classes.
