I live in Chicago, but I am from the State College area and wanted my mom to be able to look at…read morewedding dresses with me. I was a bit nervous that a smaller area would not have many dresses to look at, but I was completely wrong! Formalities had a ton of beautiful dresses, including the one dress I saw online that I was in love with. The first shop I went into with the first dress dress I tried on was the "one". This dress also was much cheaper than it would have been in Chicago. Everyone there was so friendly. My dress got a TON of compliments from total strangers all day. My wedding was a wdw and I had the perfect princess dress. Thank you Formalities!

My fiancé initially had a genuinely good experience at Formalities when choosing her wedding dress…read more She was excited, found a dress she loved, and we expected the rest of the process to be just as positive. Unfortunately, once the actual dress arrived, the experience changed completely. When my fiancé went to try on her dress, it was incredibly tight. It took two grown women physically assisting her just to get her into it. Once it was on, the dress was so restrictive that she could barely breathe comfortably. Despite this, we were told by the owner that this was completely normal, that the dress was a perfect fit, and that it was supposed to be that tight. And to be very clear: there had been zero weight gain between ordering the dress and receiving it. In fact, my fiancé had actually LOST weight. This was not a situation where her body had changed significantly between measurements and the dress arriving. The real extent of the problem became apparent when we took the dress to a different business for alterations. The alterations specialist was baffled by the fit and the extremely limited amount of material available to correct it. In her professional assessment, the dress appeared to be approximately two sizes too small. Making matters worse, there was barely enough material available to perform the alterations necessary to make the dress fit properly. Thankfully, our alterations specialist was incredibly talented and managed to save the situation. She made the dress fit beautifully and, most importantly, made my fiancé feel comfortable, confident, and incredibly happy in her wedding dress. We cannot thank her enough for turning an extremely stressful situation around. What bothers me most about our experience with Formalities isn't simply that the sizing was wrong. Mistakes happen. It's how the situation was handled that we have a problem with. When a bride needs two people to force her into a dress and she can barely breathe once it's on, telling her that the dress is a "perfect fit" and that this is normal is extremely concerning. We felt that her legitimate concerns were dismissed rather than addressed. The paperwork and liability forms involved in the process made the situation even more frustrating once another professional examined the dress and identified just how significant the sizing issue actually was. A wedding dress is an incredibly important, expensive, and emotional purchase. A bride should feel comfortable questioning the fit of her dress without feeling pressured into believing that severe discomfort is somehow normal. Future brides: trust your instincts. If something doesn't feel right, speak up. Get your measurements confirmed, ask questions, and don't be afraid to get a second professional opinion before accepting that everything is "normal." My fiancé lost weight between ordering and receiving her dress, yet the dress that arrived was so tight that two people had to help force her into it. That fact alone summarizes why we were so frustrated with this experience. Thankfully, our alterations specialist saved the dress and gave my fiancé the experience and confidence she deserved. But knowing what we know now, we would take our time, patience, money, and sanity to a different bridal shop altogether.

I stopped in at Special Occasion just to browse one day and saw the same dress and designer. She began speaking to my daughter and she gave an even better price than originally quoted. We ordered the dresses in February and in by May. She called us and we picked them up. Since the girls were from several states they took care of their own alterations and steaming. The wedding is approaching soon and Trudy called to ask if everything was ok with the dresses and if we were satisfied. I told her yes and Thanks so much for working with us and keeping in the budget. The store is a small shop in a small town. So it is not a fancy high pressure store. But if you want personal attention and someone that will work with the bride in a personal way they this is a good place to go.

I am writing this review for Trudy's on 400 Chestnut St…read more Mifflinburg, PA (I think someone posted the address incorrectly on Yelp) So, if you don't want to read the review, here are the highlights: - great prices! :) - nice location - kind lady - alters dresses not bought from her shop - unsavory expected callback time - hard to get a hold of because she's the only person who works in the shop - fast with alters but waits until last minute to finish I had a wedding dress that I bought from a different store that needed to be altered. I got the recommendation from a coworker who knew a local bride that actually used Trudy for her alterations without a hitch. At this cozy store filled with prom and bridesmaid dresses, I first met Trudy who was super friendly and welcoming. I called ahead to make sure it was okay to come in. It's a good thing to call ahead because I later found out that she is the only person who runs the store! Don't forget to bring the shoes you will be wearing so she can get the length right. I brought in my wedding dress three months before my June wedding to make sure she had ample time to work on it and I would not be going crazy with last minute details. She dove right in and took note of what I needed done and pinned the places that needed to be hemmed. She gave me an estimated date of when I should expect a call from her. She had one of those big desk calendars to keep her straight and saw her pencil me in for a scheduled call. I left the shop and felt like I was in good hands and marked my calendar as well. It was the week of (beginning of May) when I was supposed to expect her call, which also had been the same month as prom season. Trudy had not followed up with me yet. I gave her a call during business hours and it always rang enough times for me to leave a message. I finally left a message after days of trying, gave her the weekend to get back to me, but still no call the week after that. I finally called some weekday and got her. By this time, it was the end of May. She explained to me that she was very busy with wedding season starting and prom season in full swing. I was holding back my anger and tried pressing her with questions of when she would call me back for the second fitting. She assured me that it would get done. She looked and asked what my wedding date was and said that she had plenty of time to have it done by then. She asked me when I would like to come in next, so I told her what would work for me. By this point I was so frustrated with what she saw was miscommunication, which was really a delay in contact. A nice heads up would have been nice to know that she did not forget about me. I kept contemplating on taking it to another place but with limited amount of time and her already knowing what I wanted, I did not and could not find a place that would take my dress because I bought it elsewhere. Let me tell ya, I did not get my dress back until THREE DAYS before the wedding. Good thing I had off a week before my wedding AND I was in town. My wedding was not held locally, so the fact that I had these days off were helpful. Brides, beware! I noticed this is how she works. My coworker who is getting married is experiencing the same thing. She is getting married next weekend, she came in SIX MONTHS before her big day, she experienced the no callback, the trying to get a hold of her, and also her groom and groomsmen's stuff was not even ordered yet. Their stuff should be arriving...hmmm, let's see...THREE DAYS before the wedding! Not to mention, these guys were measured FOUR MONTHS before her big day. Way to make a bride worry! The exciting upside is that her prices are great! Got my extremely difficult lace dress length shortened, bustle created, adjusted straps (that had tiny beads on it), bra cups sewn in, and other minor things all for under $100! She even did a last minute hem on my brother's pants for the wedding for five bucks! Love iiiiit. I honestly wish the best to her, but making a bride worry like this is too stressful!

Tamzen has a large selection of every style out there. If you find something you like, but the straps just aren't right, Tamzen gives ideas on how that part can be changed. There are always options to make it what you want. The dresses are reasonably priced compared to those 'large' stores that have hundreds of the same dress. You will surely find a one of a kind dress at Tamzen's! Tamzen makes the bride feel special and is extremely caring. The owner, Cindy and her entire team made the many visits to her shop a wonderful experience that every bride should have. My daughter was treated like a princess every time. The team gives the bride undivided attention, and is willing to work with designers who work with the bride for her dream dress on her wedding day. This shop dressed my daughter in every gown she wished to try, gave us all the time needed, and when my daughter decided to design a gown that she wanted they were on it immediately and the designer was just as wonderful. My daughter had specks of her dream dress until she was happy to order, the suspense of waiting was tough as we did not see final gown in person until designed and arrived. Upon arrival, we cried, the gown was everything and more in person and fit right to a tee except for a few tucks that Cindy allowed for room if needed. They are the best and my daughter and I highly recommend them. The best and thank you for allowing my daughter to design her dream dress for "their Royal Wedding ".
