We've been going here for a couple of years. I think the lessons are ok, and the coaches are ok, but I've grown progressively tired of some of the other aspects of the school and program... - Very little communication related to your child's progress. Parents have no direct contact with coaches. You can sometimes catch the deck manager and ask them questions if they have a couple of free minutes.You can fill out a paper form or send an email, and someone will get back to you. When your child advances to the next station, you are supposed to get an email letting you know, but these are often weeks behind, if they send them at all. You might also get generic emails if your kid is stuck for longer than average on a particular station, but these are inconsistent, too. - Unaccommodating customer service. My son had to drop out after fracturing his arm. When I inquired with the front desk about withdrawing him, they said they couldn't do it without a doctor's note. WTF. This is for a 5-year-old's swimming lessons, not AP courses for an honor student who is going to miss a project deadline. My son, in a cast up above his elbow, was standing right beside me during this whole interaction. The office manager was unsympathetic and acted like the whole ordeal was a huge inconvenience for them. We had been loyal customers for two years at this point, that represents nearly $4,000 in revenue. But apparently that didn't resonate as much for them as it does with me. This was really the straw that broke the camel's back. - Awful online registration system. There are sometimes very limited windows when you can make changes to your child's scheduled class. The system won't let you change their class too early, and it'll fill up if you miss the period when you can enroll. It's very cumbersome compared to how these things are done in similar online systems. - Safety issues. When kids emerge from their lessons and drip as they head towards changing rooms or to their cars, the lobby floor becomes extremely slick. My kids have fallen a few times on the wet floor, and I have seen other kids fall and hurt themselves badly enough to miss their lessons or to need ice. The staff at the front desk, feet away, seem to not even notice when kids are slipping and falling. I had to ask one of the guys to wipe down the floor one time, after my kid and another kid fell, within minutes of one another, at the same spot. The other kid was so inconsolable after falling she missed her lesson. The staff never did seem to realize or notice that a child hurt herself and was crying loudly because of the water left on the floor. Why isn't it a regular part of the staff's duties to wipe down the floor after each class?? - Inconsistent Coaches. Each week your child has a different coach instruct them. Sometimes the coaches are great. Other times, they're just going through the motions, or they may not be as experienced, or whatever, and you don't get as much value out of your nearly $20, 30 minute lesson that day. - Curriculum issues. The curriculum that the students go through is linear. Each skill has a prerequisite. If your kid is not mastering a skill, they will not learn any other skills and will be stuck trying to do the back float week after week. Kids seem to get stuck a lot. This is a major complaint among other parents I know who have tried Nitro. You end up spending weeks upon weeks watching them try to get your kid to float on their back or whatever, instead of them maybe working on some other skill and then returning to the one they are stuck on. - Cramped parent watching area. They have bleachers on one half of the parent watching area and one row of plastic patio chairs on the other half. It's a narrow, cramped space, and because there is no space in front of the bleachers for parents to walk in front and then climb up to a spot to sit, parents must climb over each other to find a place to sit and watch. And if any wet kids navigate the bleachers, the leave a drippy trail behind them on all of the benches, so that you get to sit in a puddle. During the time when one class ends and the other begins, this area gets especially packed, and as kids walk inside, there's a crush of parents, towels and wet kids all shuffling around. - Inconvenient changing options. If you've got opposite sex children over age 4, you have a grand total of two family restrooms you can use to change them. I end up changing my kids in the car, because the restrooms are almost always occupied. They're also often not clean and quite smelly. The water saving sink faucet shoots out about 5 narrow streams of water that splash my 3-year-old in the face as we wash his hands, and they don't have any stools in the restrooms. These are small things, but week-after-week, they get annoying. We've decided to give another swim school a try. read more

Great experience with the 2 teachers we have had for our toddler. They care, have great attitudes, and do a solid job of instruction The scheduling and rescheduling system is awful. They don't allow you to make up a class. Any parent knows how hectic schedules can be, and if you go on vacation or away for the weekend, you can kiss those classes goodbye, making the already pretty pricey lessons ($15 per 30 minute session) that much more expensive. I like the facility and the staff but this is a dealbreaker for us because we tend to travel and go away for the weekend quite frequently. read more

We have 2 of our kids at Nitro Swim School at the Bee Caves location. Our [almost] 7 year old has been enrolled for 3 1/2 years and he is about to graduate Nitro 2. Our 5 year old has been in it for 2 years now and just graduated from Nitro 1 to Nitro 2. It's a serious commitment. We go every Saturday morning for the 30min class and in 3 1/2 years we have missed only a handful of classes. But the training they get and how they structure it with the different levels WORKS. Our 6 year old a couple of months ago swam 4 laps of the pool at our neighborhood pool. Both of our boys absolutely love the water & swimming. The training is awesome though. The coaches are all great and the way it is set up you never have more than a 3-4 to 1 ratio of coaches to swimmers since they have 10 different levels in Nitro 1 and 10 levels in Nitro 2. There have been many times when other kids didn't show that we had a 1 to 1 ratio; we are basically getting a private tutor that week. Many other times it is a 2-to-1 ratio which is awesome. Other swim schools will have 10-to-1 ratio and we have a friend that went to one that was 20:1 ratio. You really get individual time at Nitro and that is what differentiates it. The only knock is (1) the commitment [but if you want your kid to learn to swim, it takes a commitment] and (2) the cost [it's pricey]. We love it and I'm giving it 5 stars! read more

This place is amazing! we spent so much time and money at another swim school and got nowhere. the first lesson here my two girls were already showing progress. one of my kids was upset and missed half of her lesson crying. once the coach and I figured out what the issue was it was resolved immediately. the owner got in the pool with my girls and did the extra 15 minutes with them that was lost. so impressed !!!! read more

Like this school due to the level of instruction and coaches' enthusiasm and good admin, but some things i've learned along the way: Sometimes the water is murkier than usual. Assume they bombed the pool with chemicals the day I notice this going on in the water... They let bugs go about the place and don't kill them physically with pest control due to the water getting contaminated but also don't believe in killing them at all however you could accidentally do it by stepping on them near the pool like I did. YUCK! Regular school instruction is better than summer time instruction IMHO. (some of the instructors are very young part timers in the summer). Sometimes in the waiting area the glass you look through to see the kids swim is dirty. Like greasy fingerprints all over the place; less in front of the bleacher seating area since kids don't sit there comfortably unless they are older I assume. Sometimes you have to really take the lead in communicating with the coaches on how well your child is progressing or your kid can do the same thing for a long time and it gets repetitive. Proactive parents make good swim coaches too on the sidelines. read more

Client service and the way they provide informations is a very big minus for this place. Bigger than this, the attitude and approach of the managerial team is by far the worst i have encountered in the Bee Cave area. The polices are not costumer friendly and very rigid as you, apparently, can't request upon registration to have only a specific number of months of enrollment, you have to take one more trip there just to cancel so you can avoid your card being charged. I will not return and i left with the feeling that they will try to take money out of you every possible way they can and with a lesson about lack of professionalism and bad attitude learned in top of all. read more

My kids have been there since they first opened in Bee Cave 4 years ago, we went from intro to nitro up the ladder , we are now 6 day a week competitive swimming my son goes into high school next year and hopefully be on the swim team there. Nitro offers the best lessons available in Central Texas. The swim school is a great value, and the club team is professional, fun for kids, and run very well! The coaches are all very experienced, professional and well qualified. I am told there is lane swimming during the day outside lessons and team swimming. That being said, the facilities are also impressive for a club pool. The pools are much better than anything else around, excluding the University of Texas facilities of course. Nitro also runs a variety of clinics to cater to a variety of needs. That is one thing for sure, Nitro does what it takes to satisfy customers, members and team members. The only downside is the locker rooms aren't much to speak of. That needs improvement. Also, considering the number of people at the pool at any time, there aren't many bathrooms. Nitro is the best! My kids love the structure and the fun. Even when my kids and I are frazzled with each other and a total mess, one of the deck coaches says something so positive that we all change our gear. I really love these folks! To be honest, the only downside to Nitro is a few of the parents that are there are completely ridiculous. You know, the ones who talk on the cell phone in the middle of the crowd or complain that their "baby" is scared of the water and the "mean" coaches are "forcing" their "baby" in the water? Umm. What are they supposed to do? Tips: Saturdays are too busy for us. My kids get overwhelmed. Weekday mornings are the slowest. Sometimes my kids have one on one lessons. Also, if you have time, there's always a movie playing in the side room. We get there early and change with motivation, so they can watch a few minutes. Then we stay a few minutes after, so they can watch a bit more. read more

My son and daughter both LOVE their Nitro lessons and so do I. After trying other schools, and not seeing any improvement/progress after paying for weeks and weeks of lessons, Nitro has done an outstanding job. I have a special needs child and I was concerned that not enough time would be given to him, but I love that classes are 3/1 so that has never been a problem. The coaches are very knowledgeable and extremely patient. Both of my kids look forward to their weekly lessons. There was a time when I had to cancel lessons for a while because of medical issues and they were very accommodating and understanding. We have been swimming at Nitro for about 6 years aftter swimming at a few other swim schools. Nitro's format for teaching makes such great sense. It causes children to truly learn to swim, not just gloss over the skills they don't like. All of my children have become strong swimmers who love to swim and I feel confidant that they are safe in the water. The staff at the Bee Cave location have been especially wonderful. The front desk staff is warm, courteous, and helpful. They are always able to answer my questions. The teachers are sooooo patient and kind! Especially Coach Michael, the pool manager in Bee Cave. I think this place is not really helpful to teach swimming. They have different instructors every week, and they say its good for the kids to get used to the different teachers and there is continuity with the swim levels, but I have found this not to be true. Every teacher has no idea about the child level because they have never seen them before. My son cried the whole time with some teachers and this is not their problem they say. They say you have to push the child to progress, and its ok if they cry thru it. They dont care if you go back or like it, they will just tell you to take private lessons. Both of our kiddos (ages 4 and 7) have been swimming at Nitro Bee Caves for almost a year now. Our son started in Nitro 2 lessons at Station 4 (he was already "swimming" but this helped him learn more strokes and perfect the ones he knew) and our daughter started at the very beginning of their swim school program, Nitro 1, Station 1. Our experience with the swim school has been universally positive. The instructors (a nice mix of men and women, young and older) are very nice, very good at their jobs, and very, very patient with kiddos - those who are exuberant AND those who are reluctant. I have seen a little bit of turnover on the coaching side, but not much at all, considering the number of staff they have, maybe 1-2 coaches have left during our tenure at Nitro. As a parent, I've found both the office staff and the coaches to be extremely polite and professional - contrary to what I see in a few reviews here. I am there twice a week (which is not much, compared to the competitive swim families) and they know me and my kiddos by name and always greet us with a smile. At the front desk, everyone has always been super helpful with my questions, concerns etc, particularly Kyle, but also Becca and all the others. Within the swim school, the Swim School manager - Jenn, is awesome. She runs the swim school sessions with military precision but also with the warmth of a favorite family friend. Somehow she always seems to know every child's name, whether its their second lesson or their thirtieth, and always has a smile (and a hug, when the kids want it) for each child. We've also done a couple of private lessons with Jenn and she is a fantastic technique coach as well, even with just two private lessons we saw improvements in our son's swimming. About six months ago, our son graduated from swim school and moved up to their "Intro to Nitro" swim team, so we've experienced both the swim school and swim team sides now, and I can say that our swim team time has been just as great as the school time. The USA Swim coaches are really awesome and again, very patient with the kids. They all seem to have a sixth sense about when to push and when to keep it light and fun. My son LOVES going to swim practice and always has a great time. I've literally never once heard him say "I don't want to go to swim practice today." Lately, because our Intro to Nitro team group is large, they've added a third coach to help the kids, most often its the owner himself, Mike Koleber. I like to call him "Big Mike" because he's not only tall but he's one of those guys with a larger-than-life personality that the kids just adore! They literally hang on every word! My son is no exception, he loves to practice with Mike and is learning a lot from him and from his other coaches - coach Samantha and coach Felix. We are thrilled to have our son learning from such great coaches and can't wait for more fun as he progresses through Nitro's swim team programs and grows as an athlete. I have to say first there is no better facility in Texas let alone Austin. So on to the staff, professional, kind to the kids and very attentive. But more than anything it was important to me with our busy schedule to have a place that actually kept appointments at the correct times. We love Nitro!!! My sister highly recommended Nitro, when I was looking for a place for my son, to learn swimming. And it is one of the best decisions I've made. The facility is superb, the staff is great and the swim instructors are absolutely just awesome. You get a discounted rate when you purchase more lessons at any given time. Plenty of parking choices. My son and I enjoy walking around the facility, if and when we arrive early. Parents can take the opportunity for a good 30-min run or walk, while their child is in swim class. Staff is friendly and very helpful. When his regular instructor won't be available for certain days, Nitro provides a substitue instructor, if the parent so chooses. My son is autistic and takes private lessons. All his instructors, always look out for his best interests and get the most out of his time in the water. He can have good days and bad days, but he definitely loves the water. My son has come a long way since he started Nov 2013 and we're very grateful. My son was a very reluctant swimmer and had unhelpful lessons at several other places. The lessons at Nitro are by far the best instruction he has received and he is actually joyful and confident about swimming now. I am looking forward to being at the pool with him this summer, knowing that he has the skills to get himself across the pool. The coaches have been incredibly positive. My son likes all of them and feels he has special connections with some of them. The very organized system makes the most of the 30 minute lessons. My daughter has really benefited from the Technique and Fitness group. After swimming in summer league my daughter was interested in continuing year-round. She started in the Silver group but was intimidated by the intensity and the huge number of kids. Changing to another training group, Technique and Fitness twice a week, made a perfect fit for her. She has had individual attention from the coaches and has really improved her technique. I really appreciate that there are so many different training group options and that they all seem valued. I have never seen an interaction between kid and coach here that was objectionable (several objectionable interactions between kid and parent, though!) I see the owner regularly and he seems very approachable and eager to make this an outstanding place in every way. read more

Started my kids at Elmer because I read some reviews about nitro that were worrisome. Finally was sick of the drive to Elmer and heard good things about nitro and gave it a shot. Amazing. My son wants to do competitive swimming (age 7) and my daughter (age 4) is doing extremely well. Really happy with this place. Very caring and loving staff and not intimidating at all. The reviews I read said that they were rough and tough and kids didn't like the atmosphere. I disagree. They're great and teach great technique. You won't be disappointed. Thanks nitro! read more

I have three daughters enrolled in Nitro Swim, ages three, five, and seven. They have enjoyed their experience learning how to swim here so much. We were a part of a different swim school previously, and my second daughter became especially fearful and intimidated of swimming. The former school's philosophy was to force mthe children into the water despite how they felt, and this caused our daughter to resent swimming. One of the first things that I noticed about Nitro Swim was how each of the instructors is committed to making swimming fun. They engage each swimmer and endeavor to put them at ease. Thomas, the swim manager, is personable, professional, and an absolute expert. He knows the kids by name, encourages them personally, and sends home personalized emails of what each student is working on. The individualized attention each student receives is exceptional. All three of my daughters instantly developed a love for learning how to swim. They learn so much more effectively while they are having fun, of course. Nitro Swim has standardized each level, and as soon as a student achieved the requirement, they are bumped up into the next level. A swimmer can rise through multiple levels even in one lesson. They have a high standard, and carefully training each swimmer so that they meet each standard is certainly paying off. Our oldest daughter is swimming beautifully, and we are so impressed by the technique she is taught. They have a tried and true method here, and if you trust it, you will see your swimmer excel even if they experience a learning plateau at different times. Our second daughter has become a strong swimmer, and her endurance has grown exponentially. I love how all three of them cannot wait to go to swim! So worth it!! read more

I recently had an experience where moving into another class due to summer vacation caused some confusion with understanding their policy of moving into and out of "make up" classes. Kyle, at the front desk, was polite and very helpful in resolving the issue without our incurring an additional charge. A friend recommended Nitro for swimming lessons for my 6 year-old and I'm very glad she did. We had been going to lessons at the Y and seeing absolutely no progress from one month to the next. The first reason for their success - swim teachers are all properly trained in their swim protocol - the 10 stations of Nitro 1. This is a safety-based, step-by-step process for teaching kids to swim, each progression leads to the next, each skill must be mastered before moving on. In terms of doing what they set out to do - they are focused and successful. One small criticism - the swim changing rooms are not ideal and not big enough. For a specialist purpose-built swim facility the design is awful. Their architect should have looked at some European facilities. I have always found the water quality to be good (and not seen any bugs, I'm glad about that!) My child does not stink of chlorine after using their pool like after some others, I believe I read that they use UV light to sanitize the water which is much more pleasant than chemicals. I guess they use chemicals too but the amount can be less with UV combo. I am so blown away by this place that we may progress to swim team in later years. Have you guessed?
