Nitro is a beverage lounge, and not a "coffee shop". I found this out when showing up a morning to meets some friends. These comments are specifically meant to judge it against what I think a coffee shop should be. It opens at 10:00 (sharp). I got there earlier, looked inside to see people setting up, and the doors opened, and let in a line of people. It has a minimal menu of coffees, lattes and teas. Did not offer a London Fog, so I ordered a Chai Latte. It was "okay". A little weak on the tea, and not especially hot. They don't offer any bakery or pastries (always like me a scone to go with the tea). There are a bunch of different tables and seating areas. Unfortunately some of the chairs that they have at the 4-tops, are wire metal, and terribly uncomfortable. Since there were only 3 of us, we grabbed a small cocktail table, which had 2 cushioned chairs, and an ottoman. The place was about a 1/3 full, and it was noisy. The result of the music playing and the hard surfaces. Perhaps, this beverage lounge is better suited for afternoon or evening gathering. Just not a great "coffee shop" experience. Not some place that I would come back too.
The drinks here are fantastic. Each cocktail is crafted with thoughtfulness. I had a great conversation with the mixologists. Their passion about to create a unique cocktail and how the ingredients complement each other is a true craft. They even use some innovative techniques. They even shared a new cocktail they were working on, which was such a cool experience. The vibe of the space is chic and feels a little focused towards instagram worthy pics- may not be the most comfortable/functional when it comes to seating. My favorite spot is at the bar, where you have the opportunity to see the craft in action. The other seating options are fine but don't have the same energy. If you're into mixology and looking for a stylish spot to enjoy a drink, this is definitely the place to put in your radar.
3.7 average? Come on! 5/5 all the way! This place is a VIBE. The bartender was so knowledgeable and sweet. It's clean, mid range prices, super trendy inside. The drinks were excellent! If I'm ever back in Madison I'll BE THERE!

Loved the vibe and drinks. Bartender was also a ton of fun! We went looking for my husband's old dorm and were pleasantly surprised to find a moody lounge for a late night drink. Will be back when we come back into town. Loved the twist on the espresso martini.
I usually am not one for flashy cocktail bars but Nitro is wonderful. Staff are so kind and outgoing. We stopped in for apéritif and had a wonderful time on a Saturday night. Highly recommend the Brunch Punch (for brunch or not brunch). I usually DO NOT like cinnamon but something about this drink is so subtle and creamy. Also, I greatly appreciate the array of non alcoholic drinks. AMAZING. Exactly what I was looking for. So glad I stopped in and can't wait to come back for the atmosphere. I absolutely loved the vibe. Music was just the right volume and great options for cocktails. Awesome place.

Every drink felt like a small work of art. What really took the experience to the next level, though, was the service. Attentive without being overbearing, super friendly, and clearly passionate about what they do. You can tell they genuinely care about creating a memorable experience. Highly recommend for a night out or even just a casual drink. Will definitely be back!
We had a great time! We had seen some of the reviews online (thenitrolounge.com) and made it a point to visit on Saturday when we came to Madison for the Easter brunch at the Madison Concourse-- we were not disappointed at all. The vibe is very classy with plenty of seating room. There are non-alcoholic offerings also for those who may not imbibe. We ordered the New Fashioned (wheated bourbon, wine reduction and bitters with an applewood smoke) presented with a dome that lifts to release the smoke (not just theatrical; it added to the flavor of the drink.) We also tried the Porn Star Martini (vodka, passion fruit, lime, vanilla infused sugar--balanced and not too sweet) served with a Prosecco sidecar--delicious! Finally we tried the showstopper that you CANNOT pronounce (unless you already know the Polynesian tune that accompanies the 26 syllable name) for a vodka/hibiscus tea/orange/lemon/cherry/prosecco--a delightful drink combo. Our server Ace was a gem and he answered all of our questions and made suggestions to help us decide. We ordered a nut combo to munch with the drinks that was served in a fancy glass. You will feel welcomed and not rushed at all--we lingered listening to the music and people-watching. We will definitely be back to visit.
Modern and chic Nitro is aesthetically appealing and provides a welcoming environment. Their seating has one big chic vibe but depending on where you sit you could create a situation of your choice. The mixologist created amazing drinks for all to enjoy. The beverages have flavor aesthetic appeal and it's a show to watch the preparation. I highly recommend checking out Nitro any night they're open.
Chandeliers, plush seating, and classy jazz music are just the surface layer of this endlessly delightful bar. The drinks were as playful as the ambiance, combining unique flavors and alcohols into deliciously stunning cocktails--my friends loved them. They also have some nice wines--I got a glass of Prosecco as per usual. My favorite part of the experience was when the bartender put my friend's cocktail into a smoking chamber to give it a smokey finish. Although I came for an evening drink, I anticipate this would also be a great place to grab coffee with a friend. I can't wait to come back and leave a daylight update!
I love a cocktail and this is a cute cocktail bar. I ordered the New Old Fashioned and It was really good. Nitro is fairly new and some things need to be changed such as the cocktail menu needed to be more extensive and the seating could be better-there were alot of people standing because there were no available seating. The bartenders were really nice and friendly and they made sure that we were taken care of. I asked the bartender if they have music playing and I was told they did but it was difficult to here. Aesthetically Nitro is beautiful but to stay open more seating is needed however I will be back again!
I saw Nitro had just opened the week prior so I decided to check it out with some friends. Myself and two other friends decided to meet up to study at Nitro on a Sunday afternoon. Approaching Nitro I found two doors and was unsure which to enter. I took a 50/50 shot and guessed correctly. However, others weren't so lucky as I watched several people guess wrong and had to sheepishly walk over to the other door to open (ps: it's not the door on W Wash). Once inside Nitro the ambiance and decor blew me away. I thought I was severely underdressed in my sweats for a place with chandelier lamps and velvet chairs. Although it had a high class atmosphere, the vibe was laid back for a Sunday at noon. There were people studying with laptops, people reading, a family with a baby, and friends catching up scattered across the room. There were plenty of seats around and I appreciated the plush velvet chairs (including the bar chairs!). Some people had boozy brunch drinks while others had kombucha or a coffee. Although Nitro does not serve food, they did have several delicious looking pastries for sale. The staff were kind and were doing their thing behind the bar. My beef: The biggest problem I had with Nitro was that it did not have any outlets other than at the bar. Don't get me wrong, the bar chairs were the most comfortable chairs I have ever sat in, but it was odd that there weren't any outlets where the large tables are. There were several other laptops in the crowd who I assume left after their battery died. My only other critique is that the drinks were pretty pricy compared to other cafes in the area. However, taking everything into consideration, the atmosphere in Nitro justifies a pricer beverage. Overall, Nitro is a very classy and posh place to grab coffee or drinks without the pressure of acting or dressing so. Probably one of the nicer cafes in Madison where you can comfortably be for hours on end. Not too loud and full of good vibes. I wouldn't recommend a long study session unless you are comfortable sitting at the bar for an outlet. Otherwise, there are plenty of people who are at Nitro with laptops and books. My first impression wow'd me & I will definitely be returning at night to see what the evening atmosphere is like.

I've always wanted to stop in here, and finally made it when a group of friends was meeting here for drinks. I like the space - it has a bit of an eclectic seating arrangement and it's open with a bit of an industrial meets Victorian vibe/ambiance. However, it's so dark in here. I guess that's like a trendy thing maybe, but it has beautiful large windows and it's a shame they don't take advantage of the natural light a bit more. There's also a nice, dog friendly patio outside if the weather is nice. I like my cocktails to be a lot more booze forward than tasting like you can hardly tell there's booze in it. I was a bit wary about trying the New Fashioned, but I was told it wasn't too sweet and it was more booze forward. I would disagree on both accounts. It wasn't my favorite, but you live and learn. For my next drink, I just got a regular, classic Old Fashioned. I love a place that will make me a classic Old Fashioned, it can be hard to find in Wisconsin. Bartenders were friendly, but there were a lot of people when we first got there waiting to order drinks and only one bartender... and the drinks aren't made super fast. Once it cleared out and people were ordering second drinks at various times, no issue. I'd definitely come back here again. read more
Stopped at Nitro Lounge with my daughter for my birthday. And they gave me a glass of bubbly. I also chose a pineapple cocktail and it was delicious. The ambience is spot on I love the edgy and cool vibe this place has. The bartender was really friendly and made the experience top notch read more

We love coming here for drinks. My sister and I came here for my birthday, and I have also brought friends and other family members. The bartenders are always so kind, and we honestly have not had a drink we did not enjoy. It is a great spot to grab cocktails with the girls or stop in for a drink before dinner. The only thing I wish is that they still served pizza, because it was such a nice bonus. read more

Nitro is brand new, with a great vibe. The decor is lovely, and seating options are very comfortable. We visited in the evening for a cocktail after dinner. The staff are definitely still learning, but were friendly. I visited with two others on a Thursday evening, so it wasn't terribly busy. It took about 10 minutes from the time we ordered to the time the three of us had our drinks. Again, they are still learning which we completely understand. I found the price point to be a bit high for what is being offered. It did not appear you could order a cocktail that wasn't on their menu, so drink options were somewhat limited. Craft cocktails are their jam - not a Jack and Coke. read more

My friends and I checked out this place and we won't be back until it warms up. The drinks are good just expensive. Parking is very tough (best to Uber or carpool) and barely any seating inside. I think it's spacious inside just not enough sitting. If you open a tab, they keep your card (not a fan). The bathrooms are amazing! Very clean and towels to dry your hands. They should consider a DJ cause music via the speaker = no music really. read more

I love Nitro! My first experience here was over graduation weekend and, while busy, the bartenders were extremely friendly and attendant. Michael offered a full description and recommendations of the cocktails and we loved our choices. The decor is comfortable and beautiful - a perfect mix of elegant, but not too serious. We can't wait to come back. read more
