Make it count...but in all ways fair. The Mr. of this equation has been seeing Brandon Ferguson for a few years. Before I got married, I had the simplest tax return on Earth: earnings, 401(k), and some donations. We own our home and rental property together, but I always LITERALLY left that to Mr. Ferguson to work out. So this year, I was married (!) and had to be included in all this tax nonsense. I say nonsense, but the truth of the matter is that I'm very familiar with taxes and how they work (stoopid work). Brandon checked in with us on the regular regarding tax paperwork he needed. He was like the proverbial mother-in-law in the GOOD way; and when we figured out our final return: newly married, rental property, residence property...I was happy that he explained everything in plain English, (I could have taken more tax jargon, really!) and [he] found each exception he could, explaining what needed to be taken, etc.) THIS GUY. He's a CPA. He studied [and paid the] same amount as everybody else to gain this certification. I find it funny that ONE person complained about the price that you pay for a person that is on both your side, AND the LAW'S side of things. He's looking out for your best interest ALWAYS; and frankly, H&R Block are terrific people, but to say that you have an accountant of your own is not some kind of weird status thing, it's knowing that you have somebody who will best advise you on how get through this crazy tax world. I'm embarrassed to say how little we paid for this amazing service, so I'll leave it to you to call him yourself. We found him via Yelp years ago and will never EVER look to another to take care of us. Deadly serious. THIS GUY. You need him.

She took advantage of my immigrant parents for countless year and was constantly making mistakes on our tax returns. Here are some of the issues my family and I faced when we were doing our taxes when her: 1. Consistently overcharged for her "services" which consisted of her imputing our information into Turbo Tax and then having us mail in our papers. We were paying anywhere from $250-400 depending on the year. There was no transparent pricing policy. 2. She made countless mistakes on our tax return (e.g., putting wrong address on the form, not putting the correct full name, miss calculating total income, incorrect bank information for deposit, etc.). At one point my sister and I ended up having to contact the IRS ourselves to correct her mistake. This created a lot of problems for us when we needed to do things like financial aid for college. 3. Always talking down to my parents and belittled them because "they had too many W2s" for her to process and calling them names like "rude" when they tried to explain to her what she was doing wrong. When my sibling and I would call her to help interpret and explain her mistakes, she would talk down to us and tell us to "handle the problem ourselves" or would "tell our parents that we were talking back to an adult." She's not only bad at her job but just a difficult person to work with. I realized how mistreated and wrong she was once we started doing our taxes with another person who charges a quarter of what she's charging and takes the time to explain each step to my parents and I. Save yourself money and a headache by going somewhere else this tax season!

I asked for a corrected letter stating that it was their mistake and was told it would be revised and would call me when it was available. I never got the call and when I call them at 2:52pm the answering machine stated it was after hours. Interesting when they claim the office is open until 5. Patrica has stonewalled me in my request for the correction and has no fiduciary responsibility to her clients. Her employee made the mistake and now it is costing me a couple thousand dollars.

I submitted my taxes in September and had them done three weeks later in October. So I told my new wife they were awesome and saved me a lot of money and were even willing to have our back in the event of an audit. So we switched from her accountant to Mark. I felt like the man! Then came the embarrassing and emasculating events of last summer. We bought a house in April, so we filed for extension. We gave our tax info to Mark in May with the expectation that we would have them done in July. No problem, he said, We'll have them done in June! We didn't hear back from him after multiple phone calls and emails until late July. Finally we received our taxes back but and I'm hoping they are correct. Maybe something happened with their health or a family emergency but, they never told us. All we got was radio silence. Given the state of disarray at their office I was really concerned that they lost our taxes entirely. If something is going on with them I sincerely wish them the best, but don't risk people's financial lives if you can't be healthy enough to manage it. Or at least communicate the fact that something is up. I'm really happy with our new CPA. Best of luck to you Mark.

Mark was able to tell me how much to add to my IRA to lower my self-employment tax by a considerable amount, and he went through my old returns to see if there was anything we might have missed that would also help reduce my payable taxes. Last year, I went with a recommendation on the cheap, and the lady who ended up doing them filed without my husband's W2 - a SIGNIFICANT part of our income. She also told me that I didn't owe quarterlies in the first quarter because of my husband's income. Mark and Tammi outlined how much I should be paying quarterly in self-employment income tax so as not to incur payment penalties. The greatest part? Bam. Taxes done. No stress, no fuss. A couple emails and the security of knowing that this guy knows his stuff. A+ for my neighborhood tax joint.

DO NOT GO TO THIS, OR ANY, H&R Seattle REGIONAL OFFICES. I…read morewill describe my experience briefly below. - I submitted all my tax documents in mid-March and had a virtual appointment with my professional early April - I reached out several times to follow up virtually and via phone and receive no response back - The day before taxes are due, I call and am told my professional is out of office but they will help me with my extension if it is not ready tomorrow and am promised a call back (never received) -I call back the next day (tax day) and am told I'll receive a call back. Around 3 pm PT I get a call saying my tax pro had been let go, my tax return was still pending, and that I was estimated to owe a ton in taxes to the government which they advised I pay end of day to avoid penalties. They tell me to call the Northgate office to resolve my taxes after I file the extension. - I call the office the next week and reach the regional manager, Noah. Noah denies that I supposed to be calling his office until I insist several times those were the instructions I was given; he then tells me they have given my taxes to a third party and gives me a phone number to contact her to have them finished. I tell him I will call the H&R block office every day until I have them filed, and he assures me it will be useless because my taxes are now sitting with this third party individual. - I call this phone number and get no answer. I receive a call back later from a stranger saying the phone number no longer belongs to the tax accountant and to please stop calling this phone. To clarify, that means that Noah and H&R block gave my detailed tax information, including my SSN and income information, to an individual that they themselves are unable to locate or contact. This is an extremely unsafe use of personal information and I am extremely concerned about the privacy practices at the Northgate office in particular. - When I call back, Noah rematches me with a tax pro in the office and tells me I need to come into the office to complete my taxes. I do so and complete most of my tax return with only my NY state tax return left, which required a tax pro licensed in NY, so I am forced to come back - When I come back, I meet with Joel, who greets me by saying "How the fuck am I supposed to help you?". The rest of the conversation continues along that line, with Joel swearing throughout the conversation and gleefully telling me that I wasted my time by coming in and that he would not be able to help me at all. To top it off, Joel also gave me incorrect tax guidance that would have cost me an additional large sum despite this being a return for a state in which he is licensed - I call H&R Block corporate at this point to complain and to ensure that Joel does not have access to my private information as I was genuinely concerned for my safety given his behavior in the office. Corporate taxes my complaint seriously and tells me they will report it to leadership. - Noah calls me, which I miss, and asks me to call him back. I call back and am unable to reach him. I call back multiple times over the next week and he is never in the office. - Eventually I reach him, and he apologizes for the behavior of his employee and offices in general and tells me he has matched me with a new tax pro licensed in NY. I receive their contact information and am told to reach out. - I reach out to this new tax pro and reach her office, where I am told that she is out for the rest of the season and will be returning in October. - I have been calling Noah's office for about 3 weeks, leaving messages and requesting call backs. When I ask employees when he will be back so I can call during that time, they say they have no idea. It is clear the customers, or at least communication with those customers, is not a priority for Noah. - I have reached out to H&R Block corporate once again as I am not confident that Noah or anyone under Noah's jurisdiction will be able to help me resolve my issues. I will update as the situation develops.
