The issue was with Nate, another artist, that Toby brought down for some advice. I wasn't loving the design and was met with hostility and a cocky attitude by Nate. "I think Toby made a great design and you should just go with it". I responded with "it's on my body forever, so I want to like it" and he became super pushy. All the designs I suggested were shot down and he kept saying I needed something bigger with thick lines- despite me being clear that is not what I wanted. Toby did a great job with the cover up, but I found out AFTER the session that this was his first time covering a tattoo. I would have appreciated more transparency. Over all- Toby was great to work with, but Nate put a damper on things with his attitude.

I have never had a tattoo before - never really came across anything that I was not OK with having…read moreon a tee shirt, but something came up that I did want and my son recommended Connor, the owner and chief artist at Vegvisir. He has done some work on my son that is just amazing, so I decided he was the guy. You know he's good because we live in Broomfield and between here and Loveland there are probably 200 tattoo shops, and there is a three or four month waiting list. Our appointment finally arrived and I was a bit nervous. But Connor walked me through the final design decisions with patience and without making me feel stupid or annoying. The location I had in mind was not viable - apparently the veins on the inside of my wrist are too close to the surface for it to be safe to tattoo there. The closest place was a good six inches up my arm. That took a minute to digest. Then there was the size. The design was simple (one of those little plastic monkeys with the hooked arms from the Barrel full of Monkeys game you played as a kid) but there was some detail in the face and the tiny thing I had in mind was going to look like a red smudge. It was twice as large as I had imagined. That took another minute to consider. He made it smaller than he had initially intended, and then smaller still, until he said it would not come out well any smaller. OK, the chair was wrapped in cling film and the area sterilized as though I was having surgery - all of which made me comfortable, as did the fact that when he was prepping the area he put on a mask and left it on the whole time. It didn't really hurt much at all, which was nice, and he and his charming wife/office manager, indulged my need to talk to distract myself, which was very sweet. I love my little red monkey! If you want an epic tattoo, make an appointment to see Connor at the new, larger, even cooler location opening in September.
