My first time at this YMCA was a few years back after they had suffered a pretty bad fire. The only part that I had the opportunity to see back then was the basketball court and it was in good shape. I wanted to check on joining this YMCA for the times of the year I am in town and came in today. I was given a tour by Natasha who was very helpful and thorough with her tour. This YMCA boasts racketball courts, a basketball court (with multiple activities on the courts), spacious and modern locker rooms, a weight room, a cardio room, a cycling and rowing room, an exercise class room, and a yoga classroom. That is a lot of stuff and I may still be forgetting something. I was mostly interested in the weight lifting area and the cardio area. The areas are small compared to local gyms and I can see it getting really cramped if you come around 4pm-7pm. That is not the time I was there today, but I imagine it gets busy around those times. The free weights and machines are fairly new and they are in good shape. There isn't a ton of variety, but you can hit all the body parts just fine. The cardio section had treadmills, rowing machines, bikes, a Jacobs Ladder, a stair stepper, and some other machines. There is a 30 minute limit on machines during busy hours, but I was told that it is rarely, if ever, enforced because there is no need. I asked about membership rates and they are rather high for someone who mainly wants a large selection of weight machines and cardio machines, but if you wanted access to all the other rooms, classes, and activities then it seems super fair. They apparently have an app to sign up for classes and that probably comes in super useful for most members. Overall, this is a really nice location with a lot going for it. I definitely look forward to using it when I am in town. read more

So I was a member for a period of time and then lapsed as a member, and then came back, and I have to say that all of the improvements since the remodeling has made this so much more accessible and friendly. I love the pool area. I love that you can wade right in when using the smaller, or at least less deep, pool. The water aerobics classes are still the best offering ever, and I don't know that I will ever find water aerobics that are as good as these. Occasionally the bathrooms are maybe a little bit not clean, but they get a lot of use so I can understand that. read more

I've called three times hoping for information about programs etc. My voicemails have been left unanswered, as have my emails. If you want to limit capacity don't make me come all the way down there to have very simple questions answered. I have patience due to covid but a week later and no return phone call? Also, the swim lessons left a lot to be desired. Water was freezing. A child can't learn if all he wants to do is get warm. Honestly didn't learn much either. read more

Great location, but they do not have towel service available as stated in prior reviews. They sell them at $5 per towel. The gym is spacious and clean. They locker rooms are equipped with a sauna, steam room and private showers. I ended up leaving my license at the front desk during check in, and they are mailing it back to me this afternoon. read more

I have been member with ymca more than 7 years and I was so happy and welcomed with all workers and members . Never I had an issue but on January i stoped my membership because they raised their price so hi . The first time they raised the price I didn't like it but I chose to stay with them. the second time raising price and after a long time membership, no time I was late in my payment, I said I have to stop because they don't appreciate the many years you were with them. I think they need to review their team and manager in marketing and management who know how to keep their lawful customers. read more

I made my first visit to the new YMCA. It unfortunately has some of the old issues from the last YMCA on Kerr and Market. I have taken away 2 stars for 2 major issues at this YMCA. First, this is a first class facility and as such should have first class amenities. A YMCA this large should have towel service. With 3 people working the front desk no reason to not have them working a laundry and folding in between other duties. Second - An issue that has come from the old Wilmington YMCA is male patrons entering the sauna and steam rooms with full PT gear on. This has already created a stench in these rooms. And its hard to get rid of. The only thing these rooms should smell of is the added menthol smell some YMCAs use or nothing at all. Second - patrons should be dousing themselves in the shower before entering sauna and steam rooms and the pool. If you want to sweat more in your PT gear get more exercise. Don't use steam room and sauna for this. Lastly - dropping of weights on the 2nd floor. This drives me insane. The YMCA needs big signs for DO NOT DROP THE WEIGHTS. PLEASE. Lastly the staff is very friendly and the gym has a lot of potential but needs work and or new management to nip this problems in the butt. I also noticed kids using the raquetball courts with no eye protection and texting on cell phones while the other 2 players were hitting the ball off the wall! Future Darwin winners for certain. Raquetball courts are for people who know how to play and to do it safely. I've also seen people lifting weights in flip flops. This YMCA is asking to be sued. read more

This YMCA is really pretty sweet! I don't know much about basketball programs or the kid sitting services. They do have a large variety of classes through out the day. My husband plays racketball and this place is very affordable for the two of us. They have a pool, nice locker rooms and a very friendly staff. The facility is older but they've done an awesome job maintaining! read more

I love this Y. Until you move and cannot attend this place anymore, you will not understand just how truly awesome it is. Why I love it? -towels! You don't have to bring your own towels and that's great! -steam room-use it all the time and it's the best -classes-I love turbo pump and indoor cycling. Yoga with Larry is awesome but he's a bit too advanced for me. -people that work there are terrific -they have kid stuff but it's not applicable to me This place is bees knees. read more
