Sensei Ramon Veras and his team are extremely experienced, encouraging, and treat every student with respect. TKC teaches traditional Okinawan Goju-Ryu karate which is very difficult to find. I feel fortunate that TKC and Sensei Ramon are so great at what they do and that they are so close to where I live. I trained in a different martial arts style some years ago but my experience at Traditional Karate Center has been so much better. Sensei Ramon truly puts quality first. He wants every student to really learn and understand what they are doing. Students advance only when they are ready and when they show proficiency in their skills. As a result, each time you advance a belt level a true sense of accomplishment is felt, because you met the high standards that were set. If you want to learn real Okinawan martial arts and truly apply what you are taught, you can't do better than Traditional Karate Center.

Here is where the problems lay though... 1) My child is involved in many extracurricular activities and all of them auto-bill by credit card with no issues. However, Sugar Land Gymnastics will charge you an extra 10.00 a month for using a credit card. Most businesses would be more than happy to have a guaranteed payment every month, but not Sugar Land Gymnastics. 2) Again, my child is involved in many extracurricular activities, and sometimes the schedule needs to be adjusted. If you need to change your child's schedule they will charge you 35.00 to do so. Nobody else does this, it does not cost them a dime and they are going to punish you because you are trying to juggle things around in order to keep doing business with them. Makes me think they don't really want my business. 3) If they decide to cancel a class which they have done many times, they will not pro-rate the fees like everyone else. Instead they will give you a token for a make-up class. The problem is my child is busy the other days of the week. And on top of that the make-up token expires in 30 days. I can't even tell you how many tokens have come and gone unspent. They cancelled class earlier this month for "Winter Games" and issued a token. I searched the entire winter break and one class was available and I signed up for it and just got notice back the make-up class request was denied. As much as I would like my child to continue gymnastics I think it's time to move on to a business that values our business...

After staying home with my daughter for her first two years, she has clung onto me and has had a…read morevery hard time being with anyone other than me and my husband. I decided to enroll her at Black Belt to help her with the transition of me returning to work and her beginning day care. I'll admit, at first it was tough. She cried during every class at the dojo, but Mr. Reyes was still willing to work with her. I saw progress with each visit. In about two months, she went from her first class where she was running off the mat back into my arms to her most recent class where she was laughing and enjoying herself with the instructors and other kids. I've never been able to drop her off anywhere without tears. In this past week, she stayed with her grandmother and spent time in the church nursery. Both instances, she had a smile on her face when I walked out of the door. I know this is due to her time at Black Belt. Although her progress at the dojo felt slow, witnessing her progress in other areas of her life proves that she has actually made some big strides. I am very thankful to Mr. Reyes for continuing to work with her when I know that other instructors would not have accepted the challenge.

At a boxing event in June there were a bunch of people…read morestanding around because there were not enough seats for everyone which meant they clearly oversold on the tickets. $20 for parking and there wasn't even enough parking spots, so some people had to park on the grass/rocks. For these standards, the tickets definitely should have been cheaper. I've been to another boxing event which was more put together than this where you had a guaranteed seat and a regular parking space and yet the general admission tickets there were $25 less. I won a contest with one of the people who work at the center= stanley johnson, he didn't want to honor one of the prizes boxing session and got mad when I later simply ask for my little money back because so immature and unprofessional. Not worth it, never again will I have anything to do with these people. Their memberships are also overpriced. Save your money and go elsewhere.
