I walk in see a cute woman with a homemade mask ringing up customers. I ask: do you have any Amish Hex signs for sale? We do not, we do sell flags. Have you tried Google? Lordy! I shop around, pick up a jar of Chow Chow, Amish peanut butter mixed with marshmallow?? (Sooooo good) I also see homemade dog treats? Both my dogs loved the beef sticks but weren't too crazy over the dried biscuits. This is everything you want from Amish Country, from homemade jams, jellies and quilts. This is your one stop shop.

The store is chock full of great souvenirs and gifts from the surrounding Amish areas but it wasn't a "quilt" store. Great parking though!!!

This is a nice yarn shop, and I'll happily return!…read more I found some yummy alpaca and BFL yarns to purchase. And I even know what I'll make with them because they have gorgeous samples knit up in those yarns (labeled with how many skeins it used, needle size, and how to locate the pattern). I've not been to a yarn store with such a small inventory, so I thought I might be disappointed. But wow, they're selection is very smartly thought out - they have luxury, they have workhorses, and yarns in between. There's something for everyone, without being at all overwhelming; although not a lot of choices, if you're looking for something specific. I imagine they rotate stock with the changing seasons, so I'll love to go back and see what they have then! Admittedly, it is such a small selection I don't know if I'd be eager to go back often (for the drive that I have to do to get out there); but the winery next door is phenomenal, so it's sort of a 2-for-1 which makes the drive worth it. They carry Knitter's Pride needles and hooks. And there are all the notions you'd need, plus some you will want (a nice line of small scissors, options for keeping your needles tame in your project bag, etc.). Above all, the gal behind the counter gave me the space I wanted, but was also friendly & welcoming when I was ready to chat.

I was looking to have 2 antique spinning wheels repaired, and found the associated business,…read moreBluster Bay Woodworks online. The husband of this family owned business does amazing work, and me coming up from Virginia, what he does is not found many places on the east coast. Sadly the wheels did not seem to be good candidates for a return to use. What I didn't expect was the converted 1810 home turned into a weaving mecca called Red Stone Glen. Owner Sarah and her dad are nationally known weavers and fiber artists, and they share their home with her woodworker husband and their young daughters as well as weaving classrooms, and a fiber arts store where I dropped a couple hundred dollars. The large property includes the neighboring house just down the road where there is a retreat center, classrooms and a spinning wheel mini warehouse! The retreat house includes a pool and lots of scenic relaxation areas for those who come to spend a few days or weeks learning or producing fiber arts. They hold a fiber festival open house in June each year and other events. Who would think out in the woods of York County, Pennsylvania is two properties and a family dedicated to preserving fiber arts of all kinds, particularly spinning and weaving. I was surprised to learn this business is well known and appreciated by fiber artists the world over. While I could not get my wheels repaired to meet my needs, I feel compelled to support this unique business just 15 minutes from the Harrisburg airport but hidden in creative solitude.

The color is exactly what I had ordered - neither too light nor too dark. The chairs are extremely comfortable and well built. I cannot find fault with anything insofar as the furniture itself and the delivery, which was courteous and professional. My only complaint was that it took five months before everything was ready for delivery. I understand that Gish's uses Amish craftsmen (who do a beautiful job), but I was told delivery would be three to four months. An additional four weeks was more than I expected. Had I been told that it was a possibility, I would still have ordered the furniture, but would have been prepared for a longer wait. My only other complaint was that I had to call them several times to check on what was going on, with no phone calls back to keep me updated. Would order again, but with different expectations.
