This is a nice yarn shop, and I'll happily return! I found some yummy alpaca and BFL yarns to purchase. And I even know what I'll make with them because they have gorgeous samples knit up in those yarns (labeled with how many skeins it used, needle size, and how to locate the pattern). I've not been to a yarn store with such a small inventory, so I thought I might be disappointed. But wow, they're selection is very smartly thought out - they have luxury, they have workhorses, and yarns in between. There's something for everyone, without being at all overwhelming; although not a lot of choices, if you're looking for something specific. I imagine they rotate stock with the changing seasons, so I'll love to go back and see what they have then! Admittedly, it is such a small selection I don't know if I'd be eager to go back often (for the drive that I have to do to get out there); but the winery next door is phenomenal, so it's sort of a 2-for-1 which makes the drive worth it. They carry Knitter's Pride needles and hooks. And there are all the notions you'd need, plus some you will want (a nice line of small scissors, options for keeping your needles tame in your project bag, etc.). Long time customer, times in 2024 are no longer kind to either the consumer or business as demonstrated by owner to long time customer since 2009. Seems making a profit are what this owner priority. First time I ever experienced such hostile environment by owner's personality. Business only. No consideration. Money is her only desire. She lost me as a customer. She opened my eyes. Lovely fibers and yes, the owner was inviting. But you'd better be prepared to wind your own yarn. Today was the THIRD time the owner suggested I wind my own yarn rather than have her wind one of my newly purchased $28.00 skeins into a cake for me. The first purchase, 6 months ago, and she said she was too busy. I understood, and took the Yarn home to wind by myself. The second time, three months ago, she said she would have to charge me five dollars a skein for winding. That was fine. I had just paid $32 a skein for the yarn and was willing to pay an additional five dollars because I was staying in a hotel and it would be days before I would be able to go home to wind the yard myself. I wanted to start my project immediately and needed the yarn wound. Today, the excuse was that the building had too much static for her to wind the yarn and therefore it would most likely "fly off the winder." Wow. I guess I really look stupid. Nope. (This review is being written from a guy's POV as my lovely wife is the knitter, not me.) To keep it simple our visit to the LYS a few weeks ago was underwhelming. Now in terms of the store being "cute" I would agree. It's fairly small but everything has a place and everything is well laid out. The lovely wife has been a patron of another similar store in Bethlehem for years and after looking around here for five minutes she pronounced that store's selection and especially the prices to be far better than what is offered here. I mean I suppose being in the tourist trap area that this store is in, to a point they can charge more because the bus loads keep on coming and I guess this is a "destination shopping " type of place although to me that usually equates to getting ripped off with either inferior quality or superior prices. Also worth noting was that the owner that other Yelpers rave about was not there during our visit as she had apparently stepped out for a few minutes. Why this mattered to us was because the guy behind the register blew us off completely for over ten minutes as I assume that he figured there was no way that someone under 40 could possibly be a serious knitter or could need any help? He attempted to assist one older woman and after telling her that he had no idea and that the owner would be back soon he was glued to the counter/register area. Normally I would assume that when a person walks into a yarn/knitting store with/wearing a purse-fingerless mitts-cowl that they made themselves you would normally want to gravitate towards them because clearly they are serious about the craft. Not here. Maybe if the owner were around things would have been more positive but Que Sera, Sera it was not and while we are out in the Lancaster/Amish Country area at least once or twice a month I can't imagine the lovely wife will want to return. read more

I am so enthused about this yarn store!!! Every visit is a total joy; I'm there anytime I'm remotely close to Kitchen Kettle Village. It's inviting, friendly, helpful, and organized. The yarn is very well curated, with a lovely mix of local and well-known wool selections. You'll find beautiful rainbows, bright jewel tones, fun variegations, subtle naturals--mostly between sock and worsted weights. You can find stash basics and ultra luxurious skeins. The sample knits are always so tempting, and the shop's own patterns have walked me through many knitting "firsts." The amazing owner (she's the best!!) is also available on Ravelry for pattern help. Apart from yarn, you can find various notions--tools, accessories, patterns and books, some felting and hooking supplies, and the super useful yarn jar! I like LYS more than other local yarn shops in the area because it has a careful selection, so it isn't overwhelming or uncomfortably disorganized, and of course because it's run by the sweetest lady ever! read more

Can't say enough about this wonderful shop! Beautiful yarn (much of it local), and the proprietress couldn't be more welcoming and helpful. Thursday Knit Nights have become a home away from home, and the classes are an absolute delight, and offered at every level. There are also a wide variety of price points without sacrificing quality - this is an absolutely exquisite selection of yarn in every color and fiber combination imaginable, and also includes a wide selection of quality needles and accessories. To the gentleman writing the review for "THE wife", sometimes people step out of their shops for a minute, and whoever is minding the store is either otherwise occupied, or just doesn't notice/provide the level of fawning your (Oh sorry, THE) wife requires. Very uncool to leave a negative review (and not even on your own behalf), when you only missed the store's very kind and knowledgeable proprietor by a few minutes. I was greeted and made to feel welcome the first time I walked in the door and the consistency of help I am offered is very important to me, as I have become an avid knitter. I really love the choices available when it comes to yarn, especially the locally produced yarns, such beautiful colors and textures. I feel as though I am entering a friend's home whenever I get the chance to stop in. Located in an historic home, chock full of interesting corners to investigate and lots of beautiful woodwork, it's a real treat for the eyes. Stopped in today and loved every bit of it. My husband and daughter relaxed on the rocking chairs on the porch while I browsed. I loved the sample projects with pattern information, very helpful since I never know what to knit! i received a very nice email from the owner of this shop today. normally, i kind of shrug when proprietors message me-- because for the most part they just want to offer discounts hoping to get a better online review. this wasn't what Wendy was concerned about. instead, she explained how LYS is a new shop and how around christmas they ran pretty low on inventory. she also explained that the employee i saw was on her last days and probably not properly representing the shop. both of these explanations sound like more than excuses-- i know everyone has bad days and i'd really like to give this place another try. regardless of these details, i just find it so nice that the owner of a store would care to write a detailed, nicely worded (not scolding or angry) email, simply hoping to let me know that my visit wasn't all that it should have been. she explained that in the regular season, the shelves aren't quite as bare, and there is a whole section of local artisan yarns. i wish i could have seen them in person, but for now i'll just boost my rating a bit and wait until i can return. good luck in the new year read more

this is a cozy shop in busy kitchen kettle village. i'm sure the proprietor gets lots of tourist drop-ins, but she always remembers repeat customers and takes the time to make suggestions re needles/gauge or look up patterns on ravelry so that the customer gets the right amount of yarn. she also makes genuine offers for customers to bring in their projects if they have questions, or just to show off one's finished work. for the joiners there's a thursday night knit group as well as various classes throughout the year. in addition to the standard fb page, she also has a tumblr. in short: the owner is a true yarnie and really makes an effort. the yarn: there's always a nice variety of colors in a solid brand. but the real draw is: there's always something from a local fiber artist. i've purchased whorled peace handpsun and crabapple hand dyed yumminess. if you're looking to support a local business while increasing your stash, this is the place. read more

All the way from Brooklyn....LOVED this store. I'm surround by yarn stores in my area but of course it never hurts to find another wherever you go. This was my first choice and I'm so happy I went. Intimate, warm, beautifully small selection. Sometimes these shops feel like a hoarder's paradise and can be SUPER overwhelming. Not only is everything laid out beautifully but there are projects next to almost every display showing the make up of the yarn (so helpful when trying to make up your mind)....let me not start on the beautiful colors and textures. A lovely stop for anybody looking to sate their crafting lust with some unique and colorful yarns. They have a wide variety of types and fibers, as well as locally sourced and locally dyed yarns in Amish country themed colors. The shop owner, Wendy, is very helpful and pleasant. She is also super fun to chat with if the shop isn't too busy! I am very conscious of the imposition I can create sometimes going in to a business with my 1 yr old (who is fond of grabbing things and redistributing them if I'm not holding her) but Wendy and others on her staff were happy to play with her and cheer her on as she did her tricks of clapping and waving. It put me at immediate ease that they were okay with both of us being there as customers. The samples neatly displayed throughout the shop are inspiring and educational. The owner of the shop is friendly and knowledgeable. I absolutely love the neatness and simplicity of the shop.
