Sushi rolls are great! Try the Dinamita! Service was slow because the restaurant was packed, but other than that the food and vibe was great. We will be coming back.

I really don't know how long the average person can go without a proper sushi dinner. Maybe for…read moresome it's just a week, others maybe it's forever, but for us it's about 3 weeks. Now we're going on 4+ weeks and it was high time to indulge. We checked out a few reviews from those posts we trust and decided to give the Sushi Club a try. Very close to us at Calle 26 & 10th ave, in a stylish cozy indoor/outdoor setting, the Sushi Club gives you a Miami Beach kinda vibe, but at heart is PDC all the way. With a somewhat loud 80's/90's classic / indie hits soundtrack, the place was comfortable but could have a bit more relaxed scene if they would have started the early evening with more of a Caribbean-jazzy lo-fi sound. Maybe that's just me. However, the service was pleasant, attentive yet non-evasive. I surveyed the well-stocked bar and mature bartender and decided to take a risk with our drink order. As you many of you know, ordering a Martini in PDC is an extremely dicey proposition usually ending in sad disappointment. But in honor of the long-awaited released of the new Bond movie (at a theater near you), I ordered a vodka martini with no olive and my extremely hip and mod wife ordered a Cosmopolitan (she's an Ex-New Yorker, so...) and crossed our collective fingers. Our needs were met with two near perfect cocktails! I'll excuse the random green olive floating in my glass because the drink was so spot on, as was my Profecto-Esposa's Cosmo. While enjoying our smart cocktails, our blissfully smiling yet sometimes tense waiter reappeared with an unexpected complimentary hors d' oeuvre of salmon pate made creamy by chipotle mayo(?) on a small thin rice cake. Wow! Delicious and immediately addicting. We ordered more of that with our dinner which consisted of simply a veggie Tulum roll, a tuna roll and a Cali roll. We shared and the Tulum roll was the big hit, wonderfully tasty, surprisingly and the Tuna was great. The California roll was good, but not familiar as I'd hoped. Overall, not too shabby. We will return to try more dishes off their large, inventive menu, which I'm sure contains some hidden gems. Recommended. Pricing is not too far from 5Th.

Our date night in Centro last weekend included dinner at SushiClub Playa del Carmen, which kind of…read morecame down middle of the road for me. To be honest, I normally avoid places with lots of Philly cream cheese rolls, but with hamachi sashimi on the menu we decided to give it a try. We had: Hamachi Sashimi thin cut-it was really thin, I would get thick cut if going again. But the fish was of good quality and tasty. Tuna Serranito-very spicy with decent quality tuna. A good dish. New York Tuna Roll-basic roll with decent fish, but the rice was very dry. Grey Goose Martinis-tasted watered down. Service however was quite good. Would I return? Maybe. It was a decent sushi meal (I have definitely had worse). But I am hoping there is better out there in Playa.

This was probably the best restaurant we had out of the three that we tried while staying at the…read moreresort. They have an a la carte menu and also a hibachi/twos Yaki style seating. You have to make reservations before coming and we made ours same-day, so the hibachi wasn't an option for us. There were still great options on the a la carte menu though, and we enjoyed all of the sushi options that we selected. The dessert was my favorite part though. I wish I ordered five of those fried banana spring roll desserts! The coconut sticky rice dessert was also yummy but it needed some mangoes or more fruit. The mango sorbet was very refreshing and a great way to end our meal. We shared a teriyaki chicken for the main course and it was okay, a bit on the drier side but none of the other main courses caught my eye. If you're hungry though, make sure you order individual dishes since everything is small portions, including the dessert! Service was probably the best at this restaurant too. They were very good at explaining what each dish was, versus other restaurants with family style where they dropped the food and left (and that was for prix fixe menus where you really don't know what's being served!). They even brought special welcome drinks at the beginning of the meal. They also have a kids menu with several options including American food which was perfect for our son who was in a chicken tender and French fries mood that day.

So we originally thought we would be able to also get a sushi/sashimi for appetizers prior to our…read moreteppanyaki but the sushi was next door to us, but our server brought our whole table rolls for appetizers and they were yummy. The chef did a great job of tossing his utensils and singeing our eyebrows. The mahi-mahi was flavorful as was the fried rice and tenderloin.. recommended fo sure....
