My friends and I arrived about 1 pm, and the place started filling up quickly right after. She made several suggestions regarding the lunch menu (all of them good), and seemed to be familiar with all the items on the menu - which is pretty big! As for the food... absolutely delicious! I had the dragon roll, with chicken fried rice, miso soup, and pork dumplings. The servings are VERY ample and you will not walk away hungry! I suggest the bento boxes. VERY reasonably priced and a good sampling of everything. I especially want to call out the chicken fried rice. I don't know what they do differently, but it was above and beyond the best I've ever had - and I've eaten a LOT of fried rice in my lifetime.

The server did well with a smile, but omitted parts of our order (language barrier - she only spoke spanish) I think it would help if they had a Native Japanese person to oversee the food preparation and a few waitstaff that where at least bilingual in English as well as Spanish. The meals were fairly priced...not so fair when you consider that 50% of the food was left on the plates as indelible. I am writing one hour after leaving the restuarant and my mouth is dry and burning from MSG. I believe that on a different day and an alternate combination of staff they could probably raise their rating by another star.

Just be aware that the lunch special does not include the sashimi/nigiri options. The interior has great lighting and it is very lively. It's not too noisy and there's plenty of parking around the corner as well. My main complaint about Umiya is that the service here is hit or miss. Sometimes I would get a waiter/waitress who would constantly check-up on me and ask about what I wanted to order. Other times, the waiter/waitress would rarely come by my table to take my order. If there could be some more consistency in the service, then that would greatly enhance the customer all-you-can-eat experience. In regards to the food, I highly recommend getting a cup of their miso soup since it's not too salty and has a good amount of tofu and seaweed. It has a good balance of savoriness. I highly recommend trying their rainbow roll, yummy roll, and shaggy dog roll too. The rolls are made to order and they have always come out fresh during my visits. I haven't had a bad tasting roll Don't forget to get some ice cream too for dessert because their green tea ice cream has a nice natural earthy tone to its flavor profile.

I ordered the orange chicken bowl with noodles (noodles are a dollar extra). I paid over 17 dollars, which included a drink and an egg roll. During the ordering process I was asked if I wanted to leave a tip, I didn't. I guess I should have, found out the hard way. My co-worker ended up leaving a tip and he got his food first, his portion looked decent and well prepared. He received his food on a tray with utensils and napkins. About eight minutes later I got my plate from someone in the kitchen, no utensils, no napkins and no tray. My orange chicken (the little that was there) was mainly small pieces (four pieces actually had chicken) and the majority was fried batter. I'll probably not return. The food, service and the bang for my buck is much better at several other restaurants like Pho Chinese, Lin's, Asian Buffet, Lotus Inn and Khan's. Good luck.
