Staff at this location were really nice ... greeted upon entering the store and about half way through checking out what they had, they asked if I needed any help....when I left they thanked me for coming in and said to have a good night. What I like about these guys, is they have clothing that you aren't going to find at Dick's, Academy or Belk type stores. Their focus is on outdoor gear and clothing and the associated brands. One of the few places, I know of, where they have a pretty good selection of North Face and Patagonia and brands like that. In addition to that they have some shoe brands you won't be getting at these other stores as well as some outdoor camping supply type stuff. Really, the only down tick in rating for me is the fact that the prices in here can tend to be a little on the high side. But otherwise, a really quality store with some really cool stuff.

This isn't the first time Emily has delivered truly outstanding customer service. Her professionalism, kindness, and product knowledge continue to impress every time I visit. Her leadership at this location is obvious--everything runs smoothly, the team is helpful, and the vibe is always welcoming. Emily is a total rockstar and a tremendous asset to REI. I think my disdain with Academy is that I'm not a Nike , Under Armour fan. This seems to be a lot of their inventory. I prefer their brand (BCG) over most of the brands they carry. I ended up with a Adidas T-shirt ($20). It's cute and will definitely come in handy! Overall , Academy is decent. I think they are good for team sporting equipment, etc. It's just not a store I care to regularly shop at. Pleased with my recent purchase & the customer service at checkout. No one asked me if I needed help or anything while I was browsing.... All good. This isn't always a deal breaker for me.

With me doing squats, something told me to get a weight belt to used while working out. The price for the belt were fair even though it cost me almost $30 dollars, but it been worth it since the belt is still in good shape. I also needed workout gloves and with me lifting weights, I need something to protect my hand. Like anything else, the gloves wasn't cheap, but worth the price since I had them for a couple of months and they still intact compared to most gloves I had before. Customer service is good and there return policy is fair as long you have your receipt.

I could stand for longer times and it actually helped me regain my healthy life again. Second time around I took my wife in and they did an extremely thorough scan and broke down what kind of shoe would help her feet and what would relieve her pain , that she experienced. Their independence knowledge is extremely valuable and helpful. The store has a vast variety of apparel to wear for running, and inserts, and shoes. Isaac was the one who helped out my wife and he did an amazing job. He listened to all of our concerns and addressed every single question we had. She started with a personalized fitting analysis with the coolest machine ever. It told me the size I needed, my walking points, foot width, and arch. Even though I don't live in the area, I stopped by this location while on the way to a meeting to…read morecheck out their running shoes. As soon as I walked in, I was impressed. A gentleman immediately greeted me and began to answer my questions. Even though I was there for the shoes, I wanted to wander around for a bit and see what all they had. It's the kind of store where you want one of everything. Once I was done window shopping, I settled down in the shoe section. Several staff members helped me through the process and did a full "foot evaluation." This is where they measure you and make you walk, so they can tell exactly what brand and size is best for you. Turns out, they didn't have the best shoe for me at this location. Bummer, right?... Not so fast. They quickly called the Homewood location and had them hold a pair of the perfect shoes for me. I didn't leave this location empty handed. I found some great running socks that have been with me (and in my washing machine) ever since.

What stood out most was that other customers -- including individuals who entered the store after I did -- were asked if they needed assistance, while I was not acknowledged at all. Customer service is a big part of the retail experience, especially at a specialty running store where fit and guidance matter.
