I had pretty much given up on getting a truly good flat white like what you would get in Australia (where it came from) over here. It was always hit and miss at other coffee places. I do hope this place will be consistent as the person who made it seemed to be the owner. Now that I discovered it here, this shall be my must go place for coffee in Steveston. I presume they roast their beans and the flat white is very smooth with a velvety mouthfeel. Not much of the microfoam though. It has a non acidic aftertaste which I prefer. There were patio seating. Parking is available on the street or at the side of building.

However, I was very impressed with how they make the ice. These are not just shaved ice made by water and add syrup like many places. Really high standard place use juice to make the ice and then shaved it. This place I think they use milk to make the ice, So it's very creamy. The corn flakes was a nice touch asking with the ice cream which makes sense. I tried the matcha one too and it was also very good. Love the mochi pieces in it and the matches powder was generous.

Outside of the pastries, Steveston Bakery has some nice seating for a morning breakfast. The sun just peeks right in, and the ambiance errs on the quieter, relaxing end.

I really enjoyed the berry bingsoo, and when you think you've gotten through all the good stuff, you find there's an extra layer of fruit at the bottom YUM. The servings are little smaller than other bingsoo spots but I strongly feel the quality is better. But of course it's not a proper sweet treat without there being chocolate involved so we tried the Oreo croffle as well. Super flaky and solid amount of Oreo chunks, loved that too.

The older lady basically told them to leave, claiming that "there's always a queue". First, there was a free table available. Second, the only two ladies in line were not amused by how the owner/manager handled the situation. They even checked on us to comment on the older lady's actions, expressing how appalled they were with that. With so many other tea/coffee shops out there, we certainly won't bother giving this place another try.

When he saw cups he liked, he would gently pick them up and share them with me. I fully understand that in a store selling ceramics, staff may be concerned about items being broken, so I consistently reminded my son to handle everything carefully. He is old enough to understand and follow instructions. Because I was selecting several small gifts, we spent some time browsing. At that time, the store was not busy. There were two staff members present: a younger Asian female employee and an older Caucasian female employee, approximately in her 50s or 60s. While we were browsing, the older employee came near us, looked directly at my son, shook her head, and displayed a clearly displeased and disdainful expression. I found her reaction shocking and unacceptable. If there were concerns about potential breakage, a polite verbal reminder would have been appropriate. Instead, her attitude felt judgmental and disrespectful. At that moment, my son was holding a cup, but he did not break anything, nor was he being loud or disruptive. This raises a serious question: does your store not welcome children? Or does your staff assume that children will inevitably damage merchandise? Or is this simply an issue of poor customer service or even discrimination based on appearance or race? Ironically, the following day when we returned to purchase tea, a woman in her 60s entered the store behind us. She picked up a teacup without noticing it had a lid, which then fell to the floor and shattered. On that day, only the younger Asian employee was present, and she handled the situation professionally, without impatience or reprimanding the customer. I would therefore like to remind the older staff member that customers should not be judged based on appearance. Treating customers with respect is the most basic responsibility of a service employee.

When I got home, I realized that I wanted more and ordered them by phone because they don't use their website for special orders. They were very nice and when the package arrived, it was beautiful. Brown paper package, tied up with string... no kidding. This time I bought a huge wool blanket that I thought I could fit in my luggage (I couldn't) and it made a perfect gift. The thing about the blanket purchase was how much banter I had the the employees while I was purchasing it. While we were talking, THEY referenced that I had bought the journals the previous year. What memory. Their attention to detail gets me every time. I will always go back to Old Faithful when I am in Vancouver... whether or not I can fit what I buy into my luggage.

I didn't end up getting any (this time around), but we'll see. Lots of great fun quality gifts you can get at this store. The staff was great! One specific employee helped me out the most, and was able to find me the last of the stock of the specific pen I wanted, and answered all of the questions that hubby and I had. Very appreciative of her kindness. Prices were fair. Across the street is Buchan (another stationery store), but their selection of pens/inks are slightly different. Would come back.

What a cute shop!…read more This is a bit of a belated post, as we visited back in August. BUT, I wanted to delay the review because we ended up using one of their fun services, and I wanted to make sure we received the product in the end. So, hubby and I were casually walking down this street to window-shop, and noticed this shop (there's also a chance that hubby notated this shop down in his notes because they sell stationery, and we love stationery, sooo, there's that possibility). Walked in, was warmly greeted, and we perused what they had. Lots of creative juices flowing in there and great inspiration for one to take some of their stuff to create your own artistic visions. The main item that we did with them was to send a postcard back to ourselves, but sort of by "telegraph" (the postal service). We actually wrote out the postcard to our future selves, and they typed it out on a real typewriter, pasted it nicely onto the wooden postcard, and shipped it out to us internationally. We got it around two weeks later (Vancouver to California), and it was packaged in a nice padded brown envelope so it wasn't damaged along the way. It's now sitting on one of our travel/memento shelves! Would love to make another visit whenever we come back to Vancouver. Seriously, whenever there's a fun or unique service/experience, it's so nice to try it out; it's a gift for your future selves!
