I thought this place sells only pens so I've never stepped in. I'm so glad my friend wanted to check it out when she was here visiting. It has more than just pens. There are stationery, some candles, body products and tea. I love the variety of tea available here. There are beautiful tea cups and tea pots too. Charming cozy luxurious boutique with a warm homely but still classy feel. The man who works the counter is friendly, polite, and in a business suit. According to other Yelpers, he seems to always be well-dressed. He also has a cute pet daschund who walks around the store. I love their tea selections here. My favorite is the Chocolate Strawberry tea bags in a tin can. I love loose leaf teas more, but I'm pretty lazy with cleaning out loose leaf teas, so I tend to get the tea cans with the tea bags. I alao enjoy browsing their soap, bath and skincare area. I love their Lollia and Tokyo Milk lotions, especially Tokyo Milk's "Rose", "Honey Moon" and "Let them Eat Cake" handcreams. Although a bit on the pricey side, this is my to-go to store for teas. The teas have strong great flavor, not like the weak tasting tea bags you get at grocery stores. I also like that there are no pushy sellers like the commission-hungry staff at Teavana, and the atmosphere at David's Tea stores feels minimal and cold. Nikaido feels so warm and friendly whenever I visit, and the staff leave me alone to browse for as long as I like. I highly recommend this boutique for tea lovers. This store helps make Steveston special. I almost would say this is what makes it special. What an amazing store, and it has almost everything I love. They have their own line of tea that has incredible teas such as Paris (a caramel and currant earl grey tea) and Snowflake (a coconut and almond black tea). They also have traditional matcha, and the supplies needed to prepare it. Along with teas, they have beautiful Japanese style dishes. They also have beautiful cards, notebooks, and other interesting doo-dads. A wonderful store, I make the trip out to Steveston exclusively for them, and their teas. read more

A real gem in Steveston, I near tire of walking around in this store. Kind of a unique store with their offerings: classy pens, stationary, teas, and luxury bath and scent items. I have a background in Aromatherapy and love Nikaido for the hard to find scent companies they carry here. I love Tokyo Milk, and they are one of the rare shops that carry the whole line- it's hard to find the whole collection. I love The Library of Flowers too ~ and they carry a lot of this line too. Lollia and Thymes are part of this section too ~ with scent, solid soap, and the coordinating lotions. They have lovely teas, cups, and impressive looking pens to add to this interesting shopping experience. Polite, warm, and unobtrusive staff every time I have visited too. This precious store keeps Steveston what is it... a quaint, thoughtful, and unique place. Firstly, I always enjoy popping in this store to be greeted my the friendly store owner and her adorable wiener dog! He doesn't like other dogs, so if there's one outside, he'll start yapping away. Oh dogs... I really enjoy the organized layout of the store. As you enter to your right, there will be a lovely selection of lotions from Japan and other places. There are also cards that you will not find anywhere else, which is a great change from all the commercialized and standard cards you get at common card stores. There are various cups, plates, cutlery and tea pots with beautiful and delicate designs as well. As you move further in, there is a vast selection of Moleskin planners. I recently found out about these form a friend and if you're looking for specific ones (like how I was looking for Peanuts) the owner can always specially order them for you, if available. I love sifting through the piles of posters too - ranging from old time maps to paris to portraits to landscapes. There are several other knick-knacks I love to browse such as pens, books and other novelty gifts. Lastly, as you make your last round for the store, there is an entire wall dedicated to their specialty teas. So many caffeinated and non-caffeinated teas to choose, from oolong to rooibos to green teas. And like a dog, I adore sniffing through all the different types of tea leaves available - especially the vanilla ones! It's always a good sign that whenever you leave the store, you want to buy something. read more

Love this store, even though the things I love most are a little pricey. They have the best tea but I'm going to only talk about one. They have a cough soother tea that is delicious and perfect for the winter/cold season. It works as it says and as a minor experiment, I mixed the tea with apple juice. Oh my god. Like the best apple cider ever. It didn't just soothe my throat; it made my day. I encourage everyone to try it but make sure you leave me some! read more

I can't go to Steveston and not visit Nikaido Gifts. It makes me want to open my own little shop like this in New West. They have a wide range of items but I am always going in for the variety of tea and tea accessories. They can be a bit pricey in the accessories department but you can always find a good deal. On a previous excursion there I purchased a beautiful Japanese inspired teapot and four matching tea cups. This last time I purchased three bags of loose leaf tea and a tea cup that came with the loose leaf tea holder (the technical name escapes me at the moment). If you need anything tea related they will more than likely carry it here! The store is also dog friendly but the little dachshund doesn't always like other dogs coming in, or at least he didn't want my 4 month old puppy coming in but that doesn't take away a star from this business at all. I can't wait to go back for more tea and accessories as I love me some tea accessories. read more

Cute little shop right in the heart of Steveston. This town is changing again and it's just going to get better. Nikaido seems to have been here for years and they have a great selection of all those things you don't really need, but kinda want when you're there. Drop by and check it out. I like giving credit where it is due and Nikaido really went the distance. My husband bought me some Mango tea when he was in Vancouver and was very excited to share it when he got home. However the tea was mislabelled. The tea inside was like a Masala chai or something, definitely not mango. Anyway we called them to tell them of the mistake and they shipped out two replacement teas to Toronto at their own expense since we wouldn't be able to get back, and told us to keep the other as an apology. Now they have made no money from us. No way the mark up on tea is high enough to pay for the 3 bags, plus the shipping. I used to work at Opus Art Supplies on Granville Island, (and the head office, and Victoria) and I can tell you they have a similar policy because it fosters loyalty. Now if we know anyone going to Vancouver, we will suggest they go and visit Steveston and Nikaido Gifts. If you look at the website they clearly have beautiful stuff, but that kind of service will have me returning again and again. read more

This is a very lovely shop. The store owner was so nice and has a great selection of teas, tea accessories, note books, journals, travel books pens and more. I purchased some really nice gifts. There were some nice hand care and perfume items, but I was hoping more to have to discovered some local brands. Regardless, very pleasant experience. read more

The minute you walk in you're greeted by a well dressed man in a suit (not sure if he wears that all the time or just for today). They are one of many knick knack gift shops in the area. Big fan of this store, ever since I first visited over a year ago. Since then, they have added on to their collection of wonderful soaps and scents. This is a really beautiful shop to check out in Steveston. They have so many different teas - beautiful jasmines, and all kinds of unique ones like cocoa almond, Paragoa prince (sp?), Paris tea, so many unique smells and purposes. Lots of unique tea accessories, Japanese style dishes, beautiful teapots, gift cards, head massagers.... The scents of everything are crisp and modern, such as fir-scented candles (one of my favourite smells in the world). Trust me, I would have no qualms with furnishing a place with the stuff here because that would be one seriously comfortable home. It just feels so neat, fresh and elegant - and though this sort of place usually is too pricey for me, this one's fair. See, the label "gift shop" usually means that the taste level isn't really there - that the items are gimmicky and outdated, but you get none of those typical lavender lotions here or Canadian moose animals. This store fits in more with the cool, friendly and polished BC vibe you get around Granville Island or Yaletown, and it definitely has some Asian influences as well. read more

I love Nikaido, and shop there quite regularly. Several reviewers talked about the price, but for fine teas, their prices are actually cheaper than many other places, including Wholefoods and Choices. Yes they have some expensive china and ceramics, but they are high quality and many are from Japan. You can wait for their excellent sales for those if need be. I love the Green Tea Ginger Peach, and their own Sakura Cherry Blossom. Their teas are fresh and unique. Go and have a taste! I highly recommend this lovely tea store! read more

Most of the time, I pop in to remember what 'slow shopping' is all about - hand selected, boutiquey stock with owners who take obvious pride and interest in what they do. People have raved about the teas, so I will rave about the fountain pens. Fountain pens! Imagine. A spectrum of brands, prices, nibs, rainbow inks (pretty, pretty inks), cases and an owner who also shares a passion for the niche and disappearing artistry of fountain pens. I have been to this store many times. To buy tea, hand cream, scented candles and small gifts. Last time I went to the store with my friends, I saw a pen I really like. The gentleman spent a great deal of time explaining the qualities of the pen to us. My friend was able to get her but they did not have the one I like in stock. After looking else where for other pens, I returned to this gift shop and asked them to order it for me.. The owner was very kind and kept the same price as if I bought it on the day I ordered. Although, it was not a huge discount, I made a statement for their customer service and their integrity. Small gestures can goes a long way. I like stationary stores in general. The fellow working there is quite nice. The two Japanese women are quite rude. The stationary is stuff you can get at most stationary or art stores, but better presented. So the rudeness balances out the presentation of the store. read more

A friend who lives in Steveston introduced me to this wonderful gem of a store. I was struck imediately by the wonderful selection of stationary and beautiful pens of great quality. And they carry the wonderful Faber Castell colour pens! This is a great store with wonderful pieces and teas. It's quirky, quaint, quiet and lovely. If you have know someone difficult to shop for you'll find something in here! The only complaint is the slow service and layout of the store. They have their cash register and display pens in the same area so it gets congested extremely easily and it can be frustrating for the customer that just has one or two things. The "cash register" is a computer that requires manual input of everything, so don't expect a scan and go type of process. The owners/operators are lovely, but need to work on their customer service. Just because you've spent 30 minutes showing pens to someone doesn't mean they should jump the queue when four+ people have been waiting extremely patiently in line. Don't go in if you're in a rush, but definitely spend sometime - but expect it to take a while to actually make your purchase. read more
