Scared but lovin' it!
Holly S.

This is the best haunted house experience I'd ever had! Beware this is not for children or the faint of heart! You will be touched! You will be terrified! My boyfriend and I attended this haunted house last night and had VIP passes, I would highly recommend purchasing them because the line gets pretty long. The theme and set of Nightmare on Edgewood is amazing! The beginning was my favorite part, scenes from all of my favorite horror movie characters and plenty of scares. I had no idea what was going to come next. The actors clearly enjoy scaring the shit out of everyone and I was grabbed several times, which added to the intensely terrifying tour. The tickets are totally worth it! If you love being scared you have to visit the Nightmare on Edgewood!

Best haunted house in Indy. Definitely go VIP if you can. If you don't like being touched, it isn't for you.

The haunted hay ride was actually super fun and surprised us by having 2 dance number scenes. The weather was divine and it was so nice to roll through all of the fun scenes they have set up with the breeze going. Some of the scenes felt like we went through them too quickly to get to see everything, but others you could really see all of the detail they put into it. The slaughter barn was very quick to get through- even when haunted houses aren't scary I like when they are big and you get to walk around in the spooky rooms they have set up. The haunted hay ride was the best part of the night by far. One thing none of us liked was that one of the characters that wander around to entertain guests who waiting in line, buying concessions, etc kept very quickly circling around everyone while pulling a wagon that had a duck caged in it. It couldn't even sit or get comfortable because it was constantly bracing for turns and bumps. A fake duck glued to the cage or no duck at all would have sufficed. Not sure why live animals need to be toted around as props. We had purchased our tickets online during pre-sale, so it was a 2-for-1 deal. We definitely wouldn't come back if we had to pay full price, but I do think my brother with autism would like this, so we may bring him here next year.

While in line there were about 4 characters that would walk through scaring people which kept it interesting while waiting. The actors did really well throughout. After an hour wait we got in the in hayride which lasted about 15-20 min. They take you out far away so you don't see or hear anything. They have about 4 of these tractors so the line moves fast. They had some similar aspects from other hayrides and some unique scenes I had never seen before. People were flying around on ziplines which was really cool. Highly recommend. Didn't do the slaughter barn because it honestly didn't look that appealing. The line was way longer for the hayride and $2 more. I could tell the attraction was the hayride here. They charge $2 if you use card so I suggest paying in cash. They have areas with bonfires to enjoy. They have a consession stand with snacks and merch to purchase. Really nice huge farm. Great haunt!

My anxiety started long before we even arrived. Ironically, when we got there, there was an ambulance outside the warehouse (real one, not part of the show), which definitely didn't help my nerves! Turns out, the person had just overheated, but what a first impression, right?! The line outside wasn't bad at all--maybe a 10 minute wait. But once inside, we went down a flight of stairs, and that's where the real line started. After admission, we waited about 30 minutes. It was HOT down there, so I had to leave the line to grab a bottle of water. But once we got to the front, they let groups in individually. There were 7 of us, so we didn't have anyone else with our group. The haunt itself was a mix of 4-5 different sections, and we got through in about 30-40 minutes. Honestly, I wasn't as scared as I thought I'd be--though my anxiety prior was definitely scarier than the haunt itself! I'll say this is probably one of the most kid-friendly haunted houses I've seen (there were a lot of young kids there). It didn't have as many jump scares as I was expecting, which made me wonder if they were short staffed or if that is always how it is. Overall, we had a fun time with friends and enjoyed the experience. If you're looking for something not too intense but still fun, I'd recommend it! Parking: easy onsite however our group took an uber.

The Historic Irvington Halloween Festival - The Phantom and Christine from The Phantom of the Opera

I've lived not far from the Irvington area for the past 14 years. Over this time, it has become one…read moreof my favorite Indianapolis neighborhoods with a combination of urban style, history, and strong personality. As a wheelchair user, I'm the first to acknowledge it's not the most wheelchair friendly area - a definite deficit when it comes to patronizing its businesses AND attending events such as Irvington's "The Historic Irvington Halloween Festival." Yet, I've long thought to myself that if there any Indianapolis neighborhood to which I'd like to move for retirement it's likely Irvington. Despite being close to Irvington for quite some time, I'd not ventured out for its iconic Halloween Festival before precisely because of those accessibility concerns. Parking can be a beast around here, however, as expected I can honestly say I found it all worth it. Now in its 77th year, The Historic Irvington Halloween Festival is sponsored by the Irvington Community Council and brings together thousands of folks from across the city for the focal point of quite a few events that lead up to it including movies, ghost tours (Irvington has quite the reputation for its haunted spots), and other events. The festival itself weaves together a sense of community and a rare celebration of Indy's Eastside - a side of town that often gets a lot of disrespect. Events this year included an art auction, wellness fair, after party, masquerade ball, fright-seeing, movies, horror shorts movie night, family movie night, blood drive, "night out in sleepy hollow," zombie bike ride, vampire run, a night of spirits, and the actual joy-filled parade. All the festivities began as early as 10am - a great thing for those who prefer daytime activities, however, it all does go well into the night. There are numerous contests throughout the day and just a whole lot of fun to be had. The Irvington Witches are a must-see for me. For the week prior to the street fair, the festival utilizes a lot of volunteers to help run the event. There are, of course, lots of vendors involved and the vast majority of those vendors on the main East Washington Street strip get involved. I mean, c'mon, places like Jockamo and Scarlet Lane were practically made for this kind of thing. If you know me, and a lot of Yelpers do, I'm not always the most social human being but I had a blast with this. Yes, it can be a lot in terms of accessibility - parking is a bit obnoxious, Irvington's streets aren't always the most wheelchair friendly, and the crowd gets a bit overwhelming. However, it all works out pretty easily and nearly everyone I encountered was incredibly aware of and conscious of my wheelchair. I guess you could say I felt cared for throughout. If you've never attended The Historic Irvington Halloween Festival, you're missing out on one of Indy's most iconic events. While I'd plan ahead a bit if you have mobility needs, it's worth the planning and a whole lot of fun. Addendum: After my review, I was contacted by Jake, who plans logistical and technical aspects of the street fair. He noted that the festival provides "a large amount of accessible parking in the Snips parking lot as well as down the middle of Washington Street." He noted this info is available at the festival website under the street fair! Thanks to Jake for the contact and additional information!

Last night was the third time I attended Harvest Nights. This was the first time I arrived before it was dark so it was less spooky and a bit more wholesome in the daylight. We arrived at 7 and stayed until about 9 pm to experience everything lit up after dark. When you arrive, you're surrounded by stacks of pumpkins in every size, shape, color and type imaginable. Beautiful Fall arrangements are everywhere you look. The Fungi Forest was something new I haven't seen before. Very cool! I felt a bit like Alice in Wonderland encompassed by giant mushrooms towering above illuminated by strategically placed neon lights. One of the highlights of the event was the Cutwater Lounge--a 21+ space upstairs in the Lily House transformed into "Mischief Manor" only for Harvest Nights. The bartender told me this was the first year having this feature. We had a flight of the Cutwater alcoholic beverages that included a snack mix of tasty treats. The Mule and Espresso Martini were our favs with the margarita coming in 3rd. Cutwater's take on the Lemon Drop (which is a drink I typically enjoy) was strong yet tasted a bit watered down. The adult only experience wasn't very well marked (it's upstairs) and signage in general--starting at the parking lot entrance--needs improvement. I'm not sure we would have known about the adult area had it not been for the nice lady who sold us some yummy sweet potato fries with sage and bourbon maple dip. The Spider Stomp, Ghost Train and light show projected onto the Lily House all add to the overall experience. The seasonal food and drink options are great albeit a bit pricey. Passed on the $12 Bavarian pretzel but had to try Elysian Pumpkin Ale and wanted to try the cider but $14 was a little steep. It's not necessary to spend $20 for premium parking that they pressure you to purchase when you first pull into the lot. I recommend getting there early and wearing some of your best walking shoes. It's a cashless campus so good to keep that in mind. Love Newfields and can't wait for Winterlights in a couple months!

The Lily house had a long line but we enjoyed going in and seeing all the spooky details inside.
