Well this is that freaking place! Alas, we were not wasted, cuz we were literally just staying the night because of a super long layover. Oh well, I guess Oslo isn't the worst place to stay ;) Anyway, stuffing my fat face with this bad boi brought me straight back to Berlin, baby! It was like all those lovely nights perusing the city streets on a Lime Scooter, drunk as hell and looking for the best Döner in der Stadt! So yeah, I recommend this place.

Saw this kebab place with the sign that said since 1984. Well there's a reason! It's been there so long! Food is fresh and tasty. And affordable! Many options many sizes and they offer to customize spice and heat level. The place is small only 5 counter seats but they were turning over quickly. Food comes out quick and it's really so good! I had the kebab pita and hubs had kebab tallerken - not sure what that means but we ate in silence will all was gone except for the napkins. Place is clean and welcoming. Just off the main walking pedestrian street. They were polite and friendly. Pls try it! Very quick walk from the main train station

Jamie W. and I finally arrived in Oslo at close to 10PM after a six-hour train ride from deep in…read morethe fjord country. After we checked into our hotel, we went on the hunt for a late dinner. However, we had no luck finding a suitable restaurant still serving food after 10PM. I refused to patronize a McDonald's not because I'm a food snob but... OK, maybe I am a snob, but when we accidentally came upon this Middle Eastern kebab grill, we were game. We were also desperate at this point in the evening. There was a long horizontal picture menu, so we just ordered off of it at the counter. When they were ready to make our orders, one of the staff motioned us over and asked us which fillings and toppings we wanted. We just kept modding every time he scooped anything, which was why our meals looked rather gluttonous. I went for the 155 NOK Lamb Kebab Box which was quite a pile of grilled lamb with lettuce, cucumber slices, beets, jalapeños, yogurt sauce, and housemade pita bread (photo: https://bit.ly/3vLcrWl). Jamie ordered the 120 NOK Lamb Kebab Pita which was quite an overstuffed handful with the same ingredients as my box plus corn kernels and hummus (photo: https://bit.ly/3A2HVcZ). Even though they were messy and oversauced, the hastily assembled food certainly filled our bellies, and for Norway, they were reasonably priced. Mine was almost $16, and Jamie's pita was around $12.25. At that late hour, most of the customers were either friends of the owner or drunk Scandinavians. And there was us. FOOD - 3 stars...generous portions of grilled meat, decent tasting, pretty messy AMBIANCE - 3 stars...fast food operation in a historic brick building SERVICE - 3.5 stars...they customize the orders willingly TOTAL - 3 stars...now you know what you can eat after 10PM RELATED - Exploring Norway? I love middle eastern food, their kabobs, grilled meats, rice, spices, special sauces, etc. This place makes good food with big portions! Not only that, the main reason we came here was the early opening hours compared to the common hours in Oslo. We had a hard time looking for a place to eat in the morning before our train ride, and this place was one of the very very few choices we had. The shop just opened when we got there. The guy wasn't the friendliest but at least he gave us food that was prepared hot and fresh. The prices were affordable and it was nice to sit outside looking out onto the busy streets. Great place to eat middle eastern food!

The menu is all in Norwegian so you need to do a bit of guess work and use your google translate,…read morebut it's well worth the work as the food is fantastic and by Oslo price standards it's almost like they are giving it away free of charge. It's a no frills kebab shop type restaurant. Nothing fancy here, just a authentic Persian/Turkish menu doing amazing bread and wonderful kebabs. With lots of salad and dips on the side. I had the mixed grill and loved it. The food was tasty and arrived quickly. The staff were friendly and efficient. We left completely stuffed! We went on a Saturday night and it was mobbed, but they still managed to squeeze us in. Two things worth mentioning. There is no alcohol and you pay at the till at the end rather than them bringing you the bill. Neither are a big deal and when the food is so good you don't nind about either of these things!

Luckily, there are places like Istanbul that reminds us that kebab is a wonderful dish when freshly prepared. Istanbul is a great outlet for typical Turkish kebabs - beef, lamb, chicken etc - along with other interesting Turkish menu items like rice-and-meat dishes, lahmacun, lentil soups etc. For vegetarians there are falafels. It's cheap enough to be a quick late-night doner takeaway (69kr), but also nice enough for dining-in and enjoying a complete meal. I was very satisfied with the 3-skewer sis kebab (160kr), a generous portion complete with bulgur, grilled peppers, yoghurt, salad and free bread. The beef may be a touch too chewy, but that's kinda given for the price. Probably doesn't get better value than this in Oslo.
