Outdoor facilities include a Junior pool, sports fields, water playground, lighted tennis courts, shelter, playground, one-mile trail, picnic tables. The whole complex looks new and well maintained. The outdoor playgrounds are very nice. This is a nice addition to the community. People with children would love the water park area and playgrounds.

On the way home from our 49th Hammond Batts Family Reunion, we stopped in Tulsa to visit family, and I knew it was the perfect opportunity to bring the kids to Greenwood to walk the streets of what was once known as Black Wall Street and to truly connect with our legacy. Let me tell you nothing compares to being here. The Greenwood Cultural Center is a powerful, sacred space that preserves the brilliance, resilience, and tragedy of one of the most prosperous Black communities in American history. At its height, Black Wall Street was home to over 10,000 Black residents and boasted more than 600 Black-owned businesses, including 21 churches, 21 restaurants, 30 grocery stores, a hospital, a library, a bank, two movie theaters, and even a private airplane. Yes, you read that right a private plane in the 1920s! In just 18 brutal hours during the Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921, an estimated 1,200 homes were burned, and over 35 square blocks of the Greenwood District were reduced to ashes by a white mob. The destruction caused an estimated $1.5 to $2 million in property loss at the time which would be over $30 million today. The human and economic toll was immeasurable, yet the story was buried for decades. Ms. Rebecca, our guide, brought the experience to life. She was brilliant, funny, and incredibly knowledgeable the kind of person who makes history stick. We later found out her mother has worked at the center for over 30 years, and that love and dedication radiated from every corner of the space. Her storytelling made us laugh, cry, and reflect. This place is not just a museum. It's a promise to never forget and to keep building. I'm already making plans to return for Juneteenth, which I hear is unforgettable here. If you're anywhere near Tulsa, even for a layover, make your way to the Greenwood Cultural Center. Bring your kids, your elders, your friends. This is not just Black history this is American history. Once a year hospice volunteers have a fundraiser in which they sell tickets at $100 per person for…read morean all you can eat and drink dinner. The food is provided free by local restaurants, so the cost of the food isn't taken out of the $100 donation. The entire donation is tax deductible. The highlights of the buffet are oysters and beer, but there's a large variety of offerings from restaurants, including meatballs from Roosevelt's and bread pudding from Charleston. There's wine and pasta and fancy appetizers from a variety of local eateries. Many people donate things for a silent auction and a raffle, which increases the amount raised for hospice. It's a fun evening and a good cause. I hope you will consider being a part of it next year. Unless we die suddenly, we are likely to need the services of hospice eventually. This is a way of giving it forward and having a great time doing it.

The event had a great turnout and all the parking spots were taken but there's additional parking next door by the soccer fields. There is a park in front of the community center and there are tennis courts as well (although they need maintenance, some of them didn't have nets). There's also a great playground and picnic shelters as well as being connected to a walking trail that goes into the Fulton neighborhood. There's a beautiful butterfly garden right by the entrance with nectar producing flowers. Inside, the community center has a fitness center, full size gym, and classrooms for arts & crafts, dance classes and other activities. They provide year-around programming that includes fitness classes, arts and crafts, sports leagues (like pickleball) special events, senior programs, and youth day camp. Enrollment is done online through the City's system.

They have a lot of different fitness classes to choose from including dance options (line dance/swing dance). Their schedule also includes social activities, education program, holiday and special events as well as open gym and weight room. Their schedule is Monday to Thursday: 7 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. Friday: 7 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Saturday: 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. If you are interested in the Line Dance classes, they are every Tuesday, 6-7:30 p.m. The Swing Dance classes are every Monday, 6:30-7:30 p.m. They are each $5 per class. Tae Kwon Do classes are every Saturday, 10 a.m.-11:30 a.m. That's $10/month! Sometimes they have an indoor marketplace which is a great way to make some extra money and find some great bargains. They also have outdoor facilities which include a pool, lighted tennis courts, multi-purpose ball fields, picnic tables, and play areas. The main reason why I like Lacy though and why I bring people here is to show the 60-foot "Black Experience" mural by artist Felix Cole. It's amazing!

I have attended various events (weddings, community events, dance socials) in this building and its such a wonderful space. The staff is wonderful to work with. They're responsive and helpful in every way. There are various rooms available for rent depending on what you need and a full kitchen. The atrium has a stage and lots of rooms for tables and chairs (provided by the center). You can choose the layout and there's also audio available if you want to connect your laptop. We have been very happy with our experience using the space for our Latin dance socials. There's a beautiful view of downtown, lots of natural light and very spacious option for events. Nonprofits also get a discounted rental fee.

I very much enjoyed the string quartet candlelight concert for Fleetwood Mac. It was beautifully…read moreset up so that every seat had a view of the performers. It is an intimate space and the candles were battery powered so it was not too warm or a fire hazard. It was an absolutely lovely evening.
