Nick's is a great place to eat. It has a pleasant atmosphere and I love the sporty yet friendly atmosphere. I recently ate here with my kids. I had the turkey club which was amazing! It's a huge sandwich and I was only able to eat half of it. Two of my kids had the giant burgers and the other had the fettuccini Alfredo. Everyone loved their meal. The only downside is the cost. It cost us nearly $80 for lunch for the four of us which I think is crazy. read more

We stopped here for breakfast on the way to the Steam Railroading Institute. It's really homey inside, and bigger on the inside than outside. Service is super friendly and attentive, glasses never were empty. The breakfast menu is compact, but has a lot of different options. Portions are very generous, and I really appreciated that they have lunch early so my daughter could have grilled fish - she's not a breakfast fan. Passing back this way after a trip to Grand Haven for the Coast Guard Festival, we stopped at Nick's Hometown Grill for lunch. The restaurant is much larger than it first appears to be. The hostess and waitress were very friendly and helpful, restaurant was clean and the food was great. Including large portions. My friend got the regular chicken quesadilla and said it was very delicious. They also have a southwest chicken quesadilla so that's why I differentiate those two different quesadillas. I had the southwest chicken salad and it was really good. It had seasoned chicken, beans, corn, lettuce, tomatoes and cheese. The southwest ranch dressing is awesome! There were also a few tortilla chips in the side. We both had such large portions that we took carry out boxes home with us! read more

Food: While the prices are a little high for the surrounding area, you definitely get enough food for what you pay. Helpings are big and it tasted pretty good. Service: This is why I'm giving four stars instead of three. Staff were incredibly friendly, attentive, and did everything to make me feel welcome. I can't speak highly enough of them! Ambiance: A bit of a John Wayne and cowboy overload. Be prepared for politically conservative kitsch and Fox "News" blaring from the many TVs. Really detracted from the experience. I'm giving this two stars and not one, solely because nobody spit in my food or slapped me. Place looks nice on the inside. Nice wooden floors, booths, and tables. I went with a group of three others. Our waitress took our food order a bit after we arrived, and then left us. For 24 minutes. I was ready to ask if there was a doctor in the house, because I honestly thought there was a 10% chance that she was dead or missing. Luckily for us, she proved us wrong. She brought food to the tables near us, but never checked in on us. The tables right behind us, and to our right. She would literally scurry by us like she had blinders on. Raising a hand and making eye contact did nothing. Would have been nice to order more drinks, but whatever. Especially since it was almost a 45 minute wait until all of us had our food (which, by the way, was mostly just ordinary sandwiches). When we finally got our food, the order was wrong.My friend ordered a chicken and noodles dish. They served him the chicken ... 10 minutes before the noodles. They were aware of this and said "it will be a while before the noodles are ready." If he waited until he had both half's of his dinner, the chicken would have been cold. The noodles came with the wrong sauce too. Honestly, that part baffles me the most. The service was a unique level of incompetence that would get a McDonalds employee disciplined. I someday hope to have a job where I can slack off so badly and still get paid. read more

Okay is the best way to describe the experience of Nick's Hometown Grill. Greek omelet was okay. Wheat toast was okay. Pancakes were okay. Hash-browns were okay ... you get the idea. The waitstaff was friendly and took notice and paid attention to my grand-daughters eating with me; however, I was a little disappointed there was not a children's menu for them to make a breakfast selection. The meal size is simply too big for a child. I don't like wasting food. One other thing ... I did have to ask for Frank's Red Hot and received a small cup. I appreciate places which anticipate the request for hot sauce and have numerous options available. I am glad I was able to find this restaurant (my original choice has gone out of business). Started coming here about 10 yrs ago and used to visit fairly regularly, loved the place. It started changing direction when the salad bar was removed. I get it, liquor has a higher margin then lettuce. But the prices have continually increased with a reduced menu. The last 2 times we visited, prices have gone up again, this time I think they have out priced the quality of the food. Additionally, both of the last 2 times they were out of our 1st choice from the menu. On the positive, the waitstaff were pleasant and did their job with a smile. I use to frequent here for their chicken club on ciabatta bread. I just haven't been impressed the last 3 attempts so I sadly won't be returning. A $1.75 charge for bacon and they gave you one slice that was split in two and you now get one 1/2 slice on one half and the other 1/2 slice on the other half of the sandwich. The last time I had my family meet me for dinner. My niece stated she wasn't really hungry as she was just coming from her moms house so my mother said she could just share what she was getting with her. The waitress said they now charge a $2 fee when anyone shares... what?! I could understand if it were two adults but this is a child and neither of them ordered water but an actual drink so this just blew our mind. Sadly my suggestion is then to only do takeout to avoid such a thing but then who's really losing out? The wait staff. I have just finally given up and won't be returning. Consistency was not present from the first time I had tried the sandwich to this last go round. read more

We have been to Nick's a few times and have had mediocre experiences on most occasions. We gave it another try last weekend with another couple that wanted to go there. Big mistake. Our worst experience there ever, and I cannot see why we would ever go back. It started with our initial encounter with our, first, server. There was confusion about what was included with two of the daily specials. Both were Asian-style dishes, one with chicken and the other with shrimp. They were other ingredient differences between the two dishes, which was the point of confusion. Someone in our party said, "let's start over", which seemed to set off our server. She scribbled out everything she had taken down on her order pad and said she would come back when we were ready. This caused a member of our party to seek out someone that could get us a different server. Server Two worked out great. Explained the menu items and ingredients and we all ordered and received our food. Three of the four of us were happy with our meals, however the fourth had ordered a BLT sandwich and the bacon on it was very under cooked at best. He removed it from his sandwich and left it on the side of his plate. When the server came back, after we were done with our meal, he told the server that the cook needed to do a better job of cooking bacon. This elicited no response from the server other than to clear the plate and roll her eyes as she left the table Now, I fully understand that servers are generally underpaid and rely on tips and almost always leave more than 20% for even average service. After the service we received, I personally felt they had not earned any tip. Shortly after we left the building, Server Two followed us out and yelled "Thanks a lot" at us. A member of our party went back into the establishment and asked to speak to a manager, and to her amazement, Server Two informed her that she was the manager in charge. So, to sum it up, terrible service, and average food with the exception of the under-cooked bacon. We will not be returning. read more

Durand how lucky are you! Traveling from Omaha area and stopped here for lunch. I had the cherry chicken salad and it was fantastic. My hubby had the seafood platter he described as "remarkable". Cod filets, clams and shrimps. Good potato coming from a native Idahoan. That's are cash crop in case you didn't know. Highly recommend this as a stop if your hungry. I was in town to watch trains and I usually try to eat at local places - plus the food choices along Lansing Road in Durand get boring after a while. A friend of mine who works for the railroad has been coming into Nick's for a while and recommend it so I gave it a shot. I can not dine in because they have TVs blaring fox news or what ever sports event is on at the time. Mainly they play fox news. The food is decent and if you order the same thing every time, it will be identical every time, which is good. No chicken gravy. The salad bar is horrible. Two stars for fox news and the salad bar. Nick, TURN THE TVS OFF! WE CAN WATCH TV AT HOME. We come there to eat dinner with our family not watch TV. The food is from gordon's food service and isn't modified at all. I really liked Nick's. Walking in the place looks tiny and very misleading, but there is a whole second room! The menu is really diverse, burgers, some mexican, fish and chips and very large generous portions. The salad bar can be added for a buck I think, and has all sorts of stuff on it from pudding to pasta salad to salad. The bar is a full bar, not just the beer you see when you enter. Overall really great. Oh and the servers are swift. read more

Great place! We were camping in the area and arrived late and found this place. Amazing hospitality, service, & big menu selection. This restaurant is always a go-to place for my family to go. Every time I go there is always a lovely food smell as soon as you walk through the door. We always get greeted with smiling eyes and face. The food, especially the quesadillas, are/ is always on point. The food is always amazing there whenever I go; it is hot and fresh! A bonus part of Nicks is that there are two areas to the restaurant; a smoking area, and a non-smoking area. I went to Nicks not that long ago and I noticed that they took the salad bar out of the area by the bar, which that is another bonus, but my question is why did they do that though?
