New to the area & tried them for the 1st time today. Gyro/Sandwich did not come with fries (a way to finagle extra $ from customers), so I added fries for $2. After I received my order, I was told it would be an extra $1 for mild sauce, like a squirt, not in a cup (Black girl was cooking & making my order), but a squirt! I thought about it and then asked for my money back for the fries, then. Girl at the register (Hispanic) turned to ask "Nicko" (Owner, I guess, who happened to be there at the time) if she could give me my money back for the fries only ~ whhaaat?! Then she proceeds to count out $1.99! I told her I didn't want that and want my TAX, too, as I PAID TAX on all the food. She said she doesn't give tax and I told her SHE doesn't get to decide WHAT PORTION of my refund I get if I PAID TAX & it's the law to PAY tax just as it's the law to receive a refund on TAX! "Nicko" then tells her to give me the amount that they would charge for a small fry, which would've been $2.19. Each 1 of these 3 people working there this afternoon stated something about what is "normally" or "always" done to which I replied that this was my 1st time there.............and it'll probably be my last! $1 for a squirt of mild sauce on a small fry is crazy! I was there last night I got a gyro plate too bad I tossed the food it was not great they served me frozen taziki sauce I only gave a picture of that Bc I sent it to a friend smh. They put all the condiments on top of my gyro meat how disgusting. The sauce looked clumpy asl n had the imprint of the top on the sauce is how I kno they froze it not even refrigerated it. People spend there money they want fresh not frozen gyros sauce.. They took 45 minutes for 5 wings and some fries they lady wasnt even updating on when my food was gonna be ready.

I was there on August 2. I used to love their barbecue rib dinner. Took longer than normal and I was the only one in the drive-thru. Okay no biggie. Got it home went to eat it was the worst thing I have ever seen taste not that good way to much fat - hard in spots. I wish I would've taken a picture but I called, the guy name was Kevin or Xavier, honestly it was hard to hear and I don't remember... I wasn't worried though he said bring the receipt in and he was writing my name down. Now I didn't have the car to make it there the next day but it has only been 2 days. Can you believe they would not honor it?! Claim they had nobody working there by that name. I could see if it had been a month, 3 weeks, but 2 days? Said I was supposed to bring back the food, I even asked the guy, he said just the receipt!!! I told them I couldn't believe then any cook would've let my order go out the way it did. Completely over priced and doesn't have the value to go with it. The wait is always horrific, there was one person in the drive through line in front of me and it still took over 10 minutes to get one gyro sandwich. The sandwich was so skimpy, unlike any gyro I have ever had before. If you are in a hurry this is not the place for you. If you want good value this is not the place for you. I dined in at this place yesterday with some out of town guests an we loved it. I have always drives past this small restaurant and never stopped but my aunt had a craving for a pizza puff.and some chicken wings with "mild sauce". The chicken was really good something that I wasn't used to but it was very good motherless. I ordered the super taco combo it wasn't as good as I thought it would be but it wasn't bad. I also had a banana shake and it was very tasty. I will be back to try some more of their good food options. I also seen the D Rose burger, it's a little much for me but it sounds good! This place doesn't have the best food, nor the best value; just going to be clear about that. Their burgers are nothing special, and their gyros is exactly the same as anyone else who uses Cronos as a supplier. They are the only passable restaurant on I-30 open after midnight however. The staff is friendly enough, though sometimes their English is so poor it's hard to tell when I'm picking up the right order. All the food-service jobs I've worked in college basically taught me two things: 1: Food drones use/drink to get through the day, even delivery drivers. 2: If you are making food with one hand, you are probably eating with the other at the same time, including managers. These people differ in one respect. They don't care that you know. I would at least appreciate the illusion of sanitation. So if it's after midnight, go for it. Otherwise, there are two cheap buffets 4 minutes away. read more

I ordered a Philly steak and a pizza puff. The pizza puff and fries were undercooked, the cheese in the puff wasn't even melted and you could tell as soon as you tried the fries that they weren't done yet. The worst was my steak sandwich. Okay J & J, you've got some competition here. Bessie really loved Nick's catfish steaks, and I tasted some her fries and they were tastier, crispier and even lighter in texture. My step-father ate heartily of an Italian beef, (it was the most that I had seen him eat in weeks), and I brought another family visitor a double cheese and fries that were quickly devoured. (Nick's even has a three-tier burger that boasted of a pound of meat - it seemed a bit much to me, but if one is so inclined - it is available). Their seating area was a bit more inviting, than J & J's, the colors they use are warmer, (brick red, browns with splashes of color), and thus more appealing - not just stark white. I believe there were plants as well. There were eye appealing pictures of their menu items on display making selection really easy. Initially, I was concerned with a sign on the door advertising for a cook, however with just three - very ethnically diverse I might add; persons, (a counter person, a fry and drink person and cook in the back); they worked as a happy team. They were pleasant, patient and kind, (a lot like J & J), but they laughed with one another and seemed to be friends who enjoyed what they had come together to do - feed people. It will be a toss up when I'm out in the area... Of course, I could just make the trek to Troha's and bring Bessie and my step-father a major treat...But with today's gas prices - I'll probably stick with what's in the area as I drive by. read more

Yesterday, I am Nearing the restaurant and there are three cops in front, so, I pull a U-turn and go somewhere else. I don't recognize the address but if this is the place on Rt 30 just east of Western, their Gyro, to me, has the best flavor of any around. It practically melted in my mouth like a deliciously and perfectly seasoned treat on my tongue. It was my first time there on a whim I went and was very pleased. I usually try to stick to the drive through at a lot of places like this because at other gyro joints the workers usually just stare at me and speak about me in another language. Surprise! I understood what they said! I didn't get that vibe here at all. The workers were fast and friendly and of course the portions were very large. I tried the onion rings too and they were very tasty. Its in a bit so nice part of town (and next to a strip club) so the dining area has like nothing in it to steal. No high chairs, ketchup, straws, napkins ANYTHING. You need a key to get in the bathroom and we even had a bum hanging around inside. My Italian beef was terrible but the fries were great. Very solid gyro. Was taking my car for service in Matteson and decided to stop and grab a gyro on my say home. Glad I did. The pita was fluffy and good and the gyro meat tasted great.
