In fact during the…read morelast week I decided to have a "Fish Off" and had cod and chips from two other outlets in town just to make sure their standards hadn't slipped, and David's still came out on top. Their large cod is ridiculously big and certainly large enough to feed two people. It's easy to figure out that David's is hugely popular. I walked down at 4:45pm yesterday, forgetting that they open at 5pm. I killed time by having a quick pint in a nearby pub, and was back at David's at 5:05 to be greeted by a restaurant with 6 people already ahead of me in the queue. Undeterred, I joined the wait but was dealt with extremely quickly, friendly and efficiently and barely 5 minutes had passed and I was out of the door with the best fish and chips in Brixham

We went to Brixham after seeing the wonderful TV show Fishtown on Sky Atlantic, we fell in love with the whole town after watching the series, and during the course of the show we loved the way that Steve and Bridget interacted in their chip shop business. We were very lucky to find them there busily working serving customers. We ordered our food which was cooked to order, which I find is a good sign (reheated food is naff!) when we received it the quality of chips was second to none, we tried the others and can safely say these chips are the best in Brixham. They are very good value too, there are a great many different food establishments in Brixham which are all good in their own way, but when you way up cost and quality this friendly little chippy is Brixhams number 1. Getting back to Steve and Bridget, what a wonderful couple. They came across in the show as very loving and caring for each other, Steve really does love Bridget and this is as true in real life as it was on tv. We started to chat to them and they both came round to us and engaged in genuine friendly conversation, what a wonderful way to run a business. I noticed on qype that there are a couple of negative reviews that seemed almost personal, so during one night in a local pub I questioned a friendly local about the reviews (our conversation was very broad and took in the virtues/problems with qype, Trip Advisor and Expedia) and it turns out that some of the negatives were due in essence to a former disgruntled employee!!!! Steve and Bridget are not aware of my posting this review, but after the food,service and friendliness of the whole Rio experience, I feel compelled to fly the flag for them due to the fact that they are doing such a great job. Well done you guys, we think you are a wonderful couple, and hope your love lasts forever.

This restaurants sits right at the harbour and offers fantastic views (given that you get a seat outside on top). The menu has lots of fish and seafood options. Of course Fish'n'Chips too. But we went for some char-grilled / grilled fish, since it all looked so good and fresh on the other tables. We went for two locally caught fish on that day....sadly I forgot which ones. But tell you what: Tasted amazing....so fresh! They grill them quite simple....not much spice and perfectly on point, so you really taste the freshness of the fish. A great great lunch. Freshness is the key....but you don't want your fish overcooked and overspiced. And they really know what they do here. On the side: Of course some Cider and Beer.....oh, and some fries. We were also happy that this place is pet friendly (at least outside - not sure inside) and our doggy got some good rest with us. Service was quick and friendly.

It is in a great location and they seem to be busy so I suppose that must mean something. We had lukewarm fish and hard chips. I don't think I'm going to try it again. It is situated on the road to Brixham in a small parade of shops and there is parking outside. They have competition from a Chinese takeaway and for my money I think I would rather go there or pop into the nearby Co-op and get something to take home and cook.

My only complaints being the tiny bit of shell in my crab and few bones in my brill, though if that was it probably would still have given five stars, but my wife's oysters had a lot of grit and that really should not have happened in a place of this quality. We had just arrived in Torquay to stay and it was late so we decided to have a quick drive around and see what was on offer. We happened upon this place as one of the first places we saw that was still open at that time (about 9pm on a Monday night) and both ordered cod and chips. Lovely, it makes you realise how the fish is fresher in Devon than it is in Birmingham cause we are no where near the sea at all. Really tastey and a good price, would definitely go here again.
