My beloved Nickel City. If you know me you know the Austin location is my local and to me the greatest place on earth. Coming to the Houston location for the first time was no different. Only bigger. The food, the drinks, the decor, the vibe, spot on. The people, pure perfection. I don't know what it is about NC and the other spots with same ownership, but they manage to have the raddest employees. People that even if you're meeting them for the first time somehow become part of your world. It's hard to describe, you just have to know it, dig it, and understand it. Thanks to the HTX crew for a great time. Cannot wait to return!

Love me a cool little hip bar in a cool part of town. This dive bar is located in EaDo with plenty of free street parking nearby. I went on a Friday night around 11 and while the place was packed, parking was still easy to find. There were only three bartenders working, which made getting a drink a little hard but they were clearly doing the best they could. The vibe is great. No loud music, mostly just the sound of people talking, which I actually really enjoy. There is a large indoor space plus a big covered outdoor area for smokers. They have a solid selection of cocktails and food. I have been here a few times before, but this was my first time trying the food. I ordered the double cheeseburger slider and an order of crinkle cut fries with cajun seasoning. And I do not say this lightly...but this might be the BEST smashburger I have had in Houston so far. The patties were so flavorful, and crispy on the edges just like I like them. The sauce to meat to bread ratio was perfect, the onions were perfectly caramelized, I am talking about a perfect bite after bite until the burger was done. In addition to that, the fries were perfectly seasoned, crispy, and honestly flawless. I did not expect to be blown away by the food here but I absolutely was. 10/10 - NO NOTES

I have checked out Nickel City twice, once on a Friday night and once on a Sunday evening. Located in EaDo, they don't have a parking lot, but you should be able to find some free street parking without much effort. Ambiance (4.5/5): My type of spot. A laid back bar with a degree in sophistication. Not easy to explain, but when you see it, you know it. They have comfortable booth seating too, which is always a plus in my book. And it's a relatively large bar. My only complaint? It can get pretty loud sometimes because of the acoustics. Service (4/5): Friendly bartenders who greet you when you arrive. They're pretty attentive too, which always helps as you'll be ordering at the bar here. Food (N/A): I haven't had food here, but the menu looks legit. It's mostly comfort food including wings, sandwiches, fries, hot dogs, etc. Bar food, but it seems to be done on an elevated level from the food I saw at other tables. Drinks (4/5): I always appreciate when a bar has a creative list of craft cocktails. You'll find that here. And to make things even better, they have group tiki drinks. We all know I couldn't say no to that. I shared a scorpion bowl. If you've never had one before, it's served in a tiki-style bowl with various liquors, fruit flavors, an crazy straws for you to share. While it's sweet, it packs a punch. If you'r not into cocktails, they have a full bar, too. Nickel City has daily specials on both food and drinks which I always love. It's hands-down one of my favorite bars in EaDo.

This place is soooooo cute! Such an awesome discovery! Where was this place when I lived in Eado? I came here with two girlfriends after work and it was such a great decision. Their menu is awesome!!!! From great drinks (especially the tropical ones) to the food! Wow, steak and fries night on Thursdays for only $19...hello! We tried a few tropical drinks and mozzarella sticks, loaded fries, and sweet honey shrimp! We got to catch up at one of their spacious booths and had some great service overall! The entire staff is so awesome! From the bartenders, servers, chef, they were all great! We will definitely be back! The only thing we missed was a pool table but loved the vibe and it won't break the bank!!

Good bar option in Eado. Order at the front service with plenty of tables open around 6:30 on Friday evening. With so many cocktail bars requiring a reservation these days it's nice to just be able to walk in. My husband enjoyed his espresso martini and they have a pretty solid menu of cocktail options. Did not try the food so can't speak to that aspect of the menu.

Nice little bar that is worth a stop if you are in the area. The drink selection is large and they have some nicely crafted cocktails at ok prices. Service was ok. Not much to say other than give it a try if you are looking for good drinks in a very casual setting.

Stumble upon this little bar in the eado area and saw multiple people ordering the food. It looked super tasty so we decide to partake. I ordered the double sliders. It comes with 2 smash patties, onions and cheese mustards and pickles. Everything was very balanced and flavorful. I really like smash burger more than the traditional. I also ordered the delrib sandwich. Wow, this is reasonably priced at 5 bucks and taste 10 times better than the McRib. And they sell it year round, not just for a month. I also ordered the tator tops, generic nothing special, but very crispy and salty

They are what I would call a modern dive bar. It's clean, serves great cocktails, better than avg food, casual atmosphere, lots of specials, and is located in an up and coming area. They have a ton of specials to entice customers, not to mention a buttload of menus. One for the monthly drink specials, one for the specialty cocktail of the month, one for happy hour, one regular drink menu, and a food menu. Note, the food is actually made by a company called Delray Cafe. They have a steak night on select Thursdays for $19, 99-cent wings on Mondays, and 2 for 1 sliders every Tuesday. They have made it so that anytime you visit, you're guaranteed to get a deal. This may be why they call it "The Anytime Bar." This is not a local bar, though, as they also have locations in Austin and Ft Worth at the moment. I came on a weekday and ordered from their hh menu and tried the Old Overholt Old Fashioned for $8, and my buddy had a DP. Overall, we had a good time but didn't order any food, that we will have to save for another trip. The hot wings looked like a solid bet to me. My friend claimed the double slider looked like a McDonald's burger when he saw another customer order it.

    Jalapeño poppers. Good. Very hot

Street parking. This place is cute. Industrial decor. The music was a little loud. We had to talk very loudly to talk to each other. Good beers and mixed drinks. You can order food from the bar or from the kitchen. There was a water spout near the kitchen for your hydration needs. We ordered tater tots, jalapeño poppers, Buffalo wings, and the world famous double slider. It was good. But pretty greasy. I did order without onions because I don't like them but it came with. Maybe they just forgot or couldn't hear me. Good vibes. All gender single entry private bathrooms. Not bad.

This is a spot I'd consider making myself a regular if I drank regularly. My friends already do so one day a week. The staff is always friendly. The drinks and food are affordable with great specials. The parking situation along the side streets works well for now as long as the neighboring businesses are night night-life. There's a covered patio area built into the building that provides a nice breeze. Lots of positives about Nickel City EADO location!

Peak dive bar mood. No nuts on any dishes I tried (cheese curds, tots, fries). Honestly just showed up on a Friday night for drinks and it hits every spot. Bar food, unique cocktails, cheaper beer, and awesome happy hour and weekday dinner specials. Can't ask for more. A perfect example of why Houston stands tall in late night options. Frozen Irish Coffee goes hard on humid summer days and the Pizza Negroni is a favorite in our group.

It's very hard for me to find a decent vegetarian burger especially at a bar. This burger was amazing! The atmosphere was festive and service was friendly. The frozen Irish coffee was like returning to NOLA. Love, love this place!!!!!

The store front is very tiny, it could fit maybe 6 people fairly comfortably. They do have a speak easy space for their tastings, which is an interesting concept, which I'll touch on later. Effectively, they have different unique shapes of chocolate that are liquid filled with alcoholic and non-alcoholic liqueurs. Think licor 43, gin, bourbon, whiskey, tequila, etc. The chocolates themselves are good, there wasn't any that I disliked and I'd say the carajillo was one of my favorites. All that said, I think this can be hit or miss with some folks. I like them, whereas I can see how it has a bit of a flash in the pan type taste. It hits fast and then, that's it.Personally, I can get past that probably and could easily eat 10 in rapid fashion. Where this place loses my attention and where I struggle is the pricing. Value is always subjective and I'm sure some will find these to be well worth their price. For reference, I think it's 4 for $22, 8 for $34, when I recently visited. I just didn't find them to be worth that pricing model, particularly when there are other brands that you can get at a lower price and similar fillings. At the end of the day, I think this is worth it for an experience or date, particularly if you're going to go in for the tasting. Think, wine and cheese, in this case, cocktails and chocolates. It's $65 a person for the experience. Overall, I'm glad to see a boutique shop like this that's locally owned by a young, ambitious entrepreneur. My two cents, price lower and there is likely a higher amount of return customers for the chocolates, but I'll save you, the reader, the take on an entire business model diatribe here.

It also helps support local restaurants during slower seasons while raising money for local charities, which is something I always enjoy supporting. Unfortunately, our first Restaurant Weeks experience at Private Client was underwhelming. We ordered from both the Restaurant Weeks menu and the happy hour menu. For our first course appetizers we had the Bang Bang Shrimp and the Ceviche Acapulco. The Bang Bang Shrimp were very hot, fresh, crispy and delicious. It wasn't mayonnaise forward like I would've liked but the portion size was more generous than expected. The Ceviche Acapulco missed the mark. The bowl was filled with juice, which took away from the dish. For our main course, we ordered the 14 oz ribeye with mashed potatoes and broccolini that we asked to be cooked medium well. Unfortunately, it came out fully cooked, hard to cut, and under seasoned. We also ordered the lamb chops with couscous and broccolini, also cooked medium well. Those were the best out of the main courses we ordered. They were tender, flavorful, perfectly cooked, and well seasoned. The sides were just average. For dessert we tried the molten chocolate lava cake that was heavily drowned in raspberry sauce. And a scope of vanilla bean ice cream both were decent, but nothing to rave about. From the happy hour menu we ordered the Golden Hour and As You Wish cocktails, along with a Brut and a Rosé. We really enjoyed the As You Wish cocktail and the Rosé. We also ordered the sliders, which were easily one of the BEST things we ate, second to the lamb chops. The restaurant itself is beautiful. The interior is warm, modern chic with rustic touches, and the space feels open and inviting. The service was good, but not good enough to justify what happened at the end of the meal. Every menu clearly states that a 20% gratuity is automatically added only for parties of six or more. Our party consisted of just two people, yet a 20% gratuity was still added to our bill without being mentioned. We NEVER mind tipping for good service, and we had already left a generous tip more than what was promoted as a suggestion before realizing the gratuity had already been included. Being charged an automatic gratuity that contradicts the restaurant's own stated policy on every menu and without informing guests is unacceptable. If you decide to dine here, be sure to carefully review your bill before paying, no matter how quickly the card reader is handed to you.

One suggestion I would make is to have a more diverse music playlist. While the venue advertised that pop music would be played, it didn't always match the preferences of everyone there, especially given the diverse group of guests in attendance. We booked the outdoor seating and boy was it hot that day. Nonetheless, the restaurant did provide large umbrellas to shade our table, so that was nice. Main Dish: Creste De Gallo pasta, was good. My dish needed a bit more salt. Drinks: Special Sangria. This wasn't on their menu, but I asked the waitress if they served sangrias. Sure enough, they did! Although our waitress was extremely nice, the service could've been a bit better. It took about 25-30 minutes for my water. I had to remind the waitress again that I didn't receive a water. Overall, I enjoyed my time at Aperitivo. A few people at our table were not thrilled with their meal. However, I would give this place another shot and try something different on the menu..

It looked dark, clubbish, and fun (exactly what I was looking for) and I couldn't wait to come here. After a 25 minute Uber ride we were downtown and walking to our destination. At first we could not find it but thankfully a nice gentlemen showed us where it was. Upon walking in, darkness with these bright lights paved our way. We sat down at the bar, but realized dancing did not start until 10pm. The bartender came over and said to us "we have a speakasy behind door #3" we were like WHAT! Let's go. So, we walked down the dark hallway and pushed open door #3 (hence the name) to find this super cool speakeasy bar. Dim lights, really modern decor, comfy suede chairs and best of all, some really great cocktails. If you are ever in Downtown Houston, I highly recommend you coming here. I promise you will have the best time. We did not stay for dancing.

The drinks were solid, and the overall atmosphere was definitely a vibe. We went on a Saturday evening, so it was pretty crowded, but once we found our spot in the Gold Room, we stayed there most of the night. Great music, great energy, and a unique concept. Definitely worth checking out if you're looking for something different for a night out. Not sure how it took me this long to stumble in here. Parking is what it is downtown so, there's that.
