I had to make a trip to the optometrist and update my prescription because one day my glasses…read moresnapped in half right in the middle and no amount of tape could fix it. CONS: ~ This is a teaching optometry clinic. Your doctor will most likely be an optometry student. ~ ...As a result, the process will take very very long. I've needed glasses since I was a little girl so I'm well familiar with eye exams and how quick they should take. A typical 15-20 minute eye exam ended up consuming about an hour and a half of my time because instead of just updating my prescription, they wanted my doctor to get more experience so they gave me the full shabang - dilating my eyes, dyeing it to see the veins, etc. I pretty much turned into a human lab experiment. Normally I wouldn't mind that much because I'd be happy helping someone else learn but they could've let me known beforehand. I ended up needing to miss a class for this examination... PROS: ~ Excellent customer service. Since it takes approximately a week for the new glasses to arrive, they tried to help me repair it using tape and melting the metal, etc. It didn't work out in the end, but I'm glad they took the time to try for me. ~ The examination was absolutely free (the eyeglasses weren't though, unfortunately). ~ Because I had school, they even decided to put it on rush delivery at no charge to me. I'd make a stop here again next time I need to get my eyes checked. Even though the process is grueling and long, I'm willing to go through with it to help someone learn. The employees are really sweet and offer some of the best customer service out there. I'd just have to make sure that I have time to spare.

What sets OPSM apart from other optometrists is their exceptional service. Here they really do…read morewhatever they can to make the process of getting eye tests, buying glasses (etc) easy. If you're in the market for a new set of glasses, they're always willing to give advice and make suggestions based on what they think will suit the shape of your face. I always pick the same style and shape but by asking for help I've been able to move out of my comfort zone with different shapes that still compliment my face shape. Eye tests here are free under medicare, though I was always under the impression that you can only get one per year. Recently I had the misfortune of being "attacked" by a tree, with a very spiky leaf scratching my eye and slicing my contact lense in half. Needless to say my eye was a bit sore and when I paid a visit to OPSM Anthony was able to take a look at my eye and make some suggestions on what I needed do next (eye drops, keep my eye clean and follow up with another test in a week to make sure the scratch was healing). I went back a week later and all was okay with my eye and I walked out without needing to pay a cent! How great is that!? Pro tip: you can make appointments online for some of their stores. Otherwise give them a call to book your optometry appointment.

I had an appointment but was unable to find the store given the rabbit Warren of Melbourne central. so I was late. This was my bad. However, the phone call to my wife asking where I was, and the tone to me when I finally found the place was unconscionable. The place was far too myopic to even be human

Pros for the Melbourne Central Specsavers: It's conveniently located in the CBD and it's open 7 days a week. Which was a life-saver when I had to do an emergency drop in on a late Sunday arvo when my contact tore in my eye. And although it's busy, I've never had to wait very long to speak to an optometrist. For my initial visit, I saw optometrist Karina Stephens. She showed care about my optical health and I was happy with the eye exam she provided. However, there was miscommunication about what I was looking for in a new brand of contacts and the trial lenses that were actually ordered. Which brings me to the cons: it's a busy location so it also feels a bit rushed and stressed (not a great feeling when visiting a doctor.) There has also been a different optometrist in the store each time I've come back, which means there's been no continuity with the doctors (the downside of being open 7 days a week.) So far I've been fine returning to this Specsavers for follow-up visits. But recommend going in armed with a specific list of questions and needs, otherwise it seems easy for the staff to overlook something in the shuffle.

The money hungry took my glasses on my second appointment and it turns out that the contact lenses did not fit me. A day later I went tried to get my eyes rechecked at the store I booked into but I could not get into any appointments at that store, instead being recommended to go to the inconveniently located Melbourne Central store where I was fitted with new lenses. These also didn't turn out well and it turned out that the first and second prescriptions were wrong. So after the third set of lenses they were much better. So after 4 weeks and 5 consultations I rock up for my appointment where they seat me. Waiting waiting waiting. After 30 mins of waiting I flag down one of the staff members who acknowledge that there is a big delay and I still have quite a wait to go. Why I was not told this in the first place bewilders me. At this point I decided to go home without rebooking. Would not go to this store if you're just ducking out for a lunch break. These guys have no sense of time.
