I had a horrendous experience that left me frustrated and on the verge of tears. Please spare yourself and see another doctor; I wished that I could. Since I recently moved into the area, I had no idea who was good and who was not. With the type of operation I had to undergo and my type of insurance, I had to see my primary care physician and no one else. Unfortunate for me, my PCP was him.
Brace yourself for a long one.
I had to get a physical exam for an upcoming surgery. All he had to do was fill out a form that was one page which basically stated that I did not have a cold or any ailments. Simple right? WRONG. He took one look at the form that was given to me by my surgeon and he said, sorry I cannot fill this out. He refused to answer any of my questions or give me a referral to see another physician. I was in the middle of asking a question and he cut me short and walked down the hall, yelling out that he did not have time for this and that he had to see his patient. Wait. WHAT? If I am not his patient then what am I?
Being the stubborn person that I am, I refused to take no for an answer, especially without a valid reason. Miraculously, I got his attention and asked him why he refuses to see me. He stated that I needed to get my blood tested, heart measured, lungs checked out, etc. and that it was my fault that I waited too late to see him. WOW... I showed him my form which stated "you must see your primary care physician ONE DAY BEFORE the surgery" and that I just need a physical examination and nothing else. He did not respond and sent me on my way.
Frustrated, I called my hospital and updated them on what happened. They told me to give them his phone number and they will call him and inform him that I all I needed was a physical! Relieved, I said my thanks hoping to clear this whole mess up. I waited. And waited. Nearly 30 minutes passed and still NOTHING. I went in and spoke to the receptionist and she told me that she took the message but he was unwilling to call my hospital back. ARE YOU SERIOUS?
Defeated, my mom and I got into the car and left. As I was about to enter the freeway, I received a phone call from him (of course not HIM, but his receptionist) and was told to turn around. I was thinking to myself, FINALLY! THANK YOU. I came back and all of his previous patients were gone. Of course he would wait until he had no more business to call me back. Whatever. At that point, I was just relieved that I could finally get this formed filled out. WRONG.
I came back and he referred me to his "best buddy" to go get an EKG. He was telling me how he asked for this HUGE favor and that his friend would do it for free and that I should be oh so mighty grateful. Then he started talking about the risks of anesthesia and that 1 in 1000 healthy patients never wake up. I was in the process of letting him know that I just need a physical and that I have an appointment with my anesthesiologist later that day. AGAIN, I was interrupted with a "QUIET, AND LISTEN" (EXACT words with hand movements and everything). ARE YOU SERIOUS? WHO DOES THIS GUY THINK HE IS???
I left without saying another word. I had had enough of this. I called my hospital and even they felt sorry for me. I am NEVER, EVER COMING HERE AGAIN. Never had I felt so mistreated and disrespected. Just because I am a patient, does not mean he can treat me like I child or make me feel inferior. I have had countless operations; the physical examinations have ALWAYS been the EASIEST part.
