What a fun time we had!!! Leading up to the party and organizing with multiple vendors can be stressful. Roland DJ'd and MC'd our wedding this past weekend and was exactly what we had hoped for. Communication the day of was quick and efficient and he worked in sync with our day of coordinator. My biggest peeve from attending other weddings is when the speakers and sound system are of poor quality and don't sound crisp, clear or balanced. I was thoroughly impressed with the sound system, especially to fill such a large reception room that we had. I really wish I could give a better review but hopefully this helps with improving service for future clients. After food and drinks, hiring an experienced DJ was at the top of our list. After researching on Yelp, we actually narrowed our selection down to two DJs. We eventually went with Joel since he really sold us on his coordination and timeline services which would be a bonus on top of him being the DJ/MC for the wedding. Unfortunately this was all talk and no show as Joel did not help us develop a timeline - what he sent us were copies of past wedding timelines as reference. But every wedding is different and timelines need to be customized. Additionally his package promised monthly check ins to make sure wedding prep is going as planned and that did not happen. We also asked for a list of popular bouquet toss/garter retrieval songs and he literally sent us an overwhelming list of all music genres. It would have been easy to ask what music we liked. I also did not realize coming into this that we had to build our own playlist. We had mentioned that we liked Top 40s and 90s hip hop but he directed us to Spotify instead of presenting us with a playlist to review. Two weeks before the wedding we expressed our disappointment with the lack of services we received. We asked for a Facetime phone call to reconnect and throughout the entire call we literally only saw a corner of his face which we felt was unprofessional. Even though the planning process with Joel was far below expectations, I will be the first to admit that he did an excellent job on our wedding day. He and his assistant showed up on time, executed the playlist/musical chairs game well, hyped up the crowd for bridal party introductions, and played guest song requests timely. I would say Joel really read my cues well such as when to do the first dance, cut the cake/champagne toast. I also really loved how he checked in with me throughout the wedding reception for certain key events. That really put me at ease throughout the wedding. All in all the service on the wedding day met my expectations and more. I only wish my experience before the wedding could have matched that. read more

My wife hired Joel as the dj for our wedding. I had zero interaction with him leading up to our wedding and was busy with our day to notice him. He has his own equipment which made things easy for setting up. Our experience with Joel was not good. We decided to use him based on a wedding I had attended where he was DJ. About a month prior to our wedding, we realized Joel had not scheduled anything with us since we had reconfirmed the new wedding date (and also had already paid him our deposit). I admit we too are at fault here too as we had not reached out to him til that point as well.  When we reached out to him on August 29th, we had noted the following to our email to him: 1) we asked for a photo booth printout design layout and a rough idea of what it would look like. We also asked to see what backdrops he could offer us. 2) to speak with him on the phone or via video call 3) updated invoice, we had noted that we had forgotten to account for time for the ceremony and wanted accurate cost He initially ignored our reach out - we had to follow up with him several times. When Joel DID respond, he kept telling us that he would send it to us those things in the evening or tomorrow morning. Tomorrow came and we didn't get anything. We did finally get to speak to him on the phone (roughly 2 weeks before the wedding). He reassured us again that he would send us the layout for the printout for the photobooth, backdrop and updated invoice the next day or two. Again, he failed to deliver and we had to follow up with him again. Finally, on September 29th, we decided to tell Joel we wanted our deposit back so we could book a different DJ (we had a backup). We expressed in our message to him that we understood that wedding vendors are feeling the pressure of all the backlog of weddings, but that we felt that the communication was not there and we were only a week out from our wedding day. We mentioned also that at this point we had not discussed timeline or music. After sending him this message he FINALLY sent us an updated invoice and set up a call with us that evening. We sent over the timeline from our venue and photographer at this point so we could discuss during our call with him, as well as a spreadsheet with both timelines side by side with times aligning so that he could have direct comparison on what was going on. When we were on the phone with him that evening, he mentioned that the timelines we provided him were not detailed enough for him and that he didn't understand what was happening based on the two timelines. He did NOT want to discuss his own timeline and told us to create one for him after the call and send it to him, he said he would send us "samples of timelines he used at other weddings for us to copy". He gave us 0 guidance on what we should think about when adding details to the timeline for him. When we mentioned we wanted to Rick Roll everyone at the wedding, he questioned the purpose of this and how it was appropriate. We said we just wanted it for giggles, even if we were the only ones that understood it. He discouraged us from doing this and said it was not a good idea. It was also at this point, he asked us to create an entire playlist of songs on spotify for him - we were previously informed that we would only need to specific genre - we asked for top 40s 80s/90s/2000's. This stressed us out as we were only about a week from the wedding and already had a lot of other things going on. We also asked for reassurance that he would be the DJ on the wedding day, and he said yes he would be and he understood how stressful it is to have a wedding because he was supposed to get married in June/July. I also asked about what steps he would be taking with the photobooth to ensure that it was meeting cleaning and COVID protocols. He said the booth would not be manned and that people can clean the props themselves (pretty bad considering COVID..) Fast forward to a few days later, I sent Joel a list of 50+ songs to play at our wedding and consolidated timelines and a timeline for himself (which included when to play what song etc). He did not acknowledge that he received this and so we chased him up to make sure he received it and if he had any questions about the timeline. Now, on our wedding day, we are surprised to learn that we have a different DJ - Roland and his wife (who are lovely). We chatted with Roland and introduced ourselves. Joel had failed to connect him with us. Roland and his wife were fantastic, and the few things we did mention to them (top 40 80's, 90's 2000's music, covid protocols for sanitation etc) they absolutely delivered on - we only wish we had connected with him sooner since it would have helped alleviate a lot of our headaches. Overall, while I am appreciative that Joel found someone else to cover our wedding, I would not want any couple to go through what we did with him. His communication was very poor the entire time and we felt that he kept saying words to assure us, but consistently not delivering. His sense of urgency and his lack of accountability does not exist. 2 star rating because he was decent enough to send us a replacement that was superior read more

We had Joel MC and DJ at our wedding and let me tell you, HE and HIS crew goes beyond what you ask and expect. Joel was awesome at our wedding this October at chabot space and science center. Leading up to the event, we had some issues regarding layout. Thankfully, Joel came in and gave us input from past weddings he had done at the space and gave his suggestions (without forcing it on us). We decided to follow his suggestions and were so thankful we did because the wedding atmosphere would have been so different had we not done what he suggested. DJ Joel did a great job for our wedding in May of 2017. He was the sound guy for our Ceremony and the DJ/MC for our reception. Yes...he played excellent music. But it was more than that. My wedding on June 2021 was one of the first weddings at the Half Moon Bay since the Pandemic started in 2020. Joel was our DJ booked since 2019. He patiently waited for us through 3 wedding date changes as we waited the world to be settled with COVID-19 and boy we are glad Joel was there. We did discuss what we needed for the wedding, I shared an extensive list of songs divided in genres which we wanted to play and didn't want. On the day of the wedding, he smartly arranged songs that were on the list but weren't dance-able during cocktail and reception, and kept the bangers for the party moments. He even sneaked in a karaoke moment that myself and the groomsmen definitely enjoyed. If you're reading through these reviews because you got a wedding to plan, then look - I believe Joel charges a fair rate. Don't expect to pay little to get a quality DJ. Just believe in his years of experience and ability to pull it off. Make sure you communicate with him what you want and don't want precisely! From the initial phone call when requesting for a rental, the staff at Next Selection Entertainment was very informative and helpful with suggestions for my needs. I've looked into renting audio equipment before and have gotten some ridiculous quotes. Along with a weird rental process when it came to pick up and drop off of the equipment. But after speaking with the staff at Next Selection, I felt very comfortable that I was going to be taken care of. They even offered to help to setup for an additional cost which was not too bad either. Since our first call, we have used them for all of our audio and visual needs for our corporate functions.
