This was a fantastic experience. When I was younger I used to love clothes--I mean searched-for-the-clothes-boxes-instead-of the-toy-boxes-under-the-Christmas-tree loved clothes as early as age 3 (there is video evidence). Then life, graduate school and years of post graduate school in a sector that doesn't value style happened. I had ended up with a packed closet that was more of a time capsule storage unit than functional space, leaving me with mountains of things and still feeling like I had nothing to wear because the vast majority of it fit but was 10 years old. I had tried to clean it out 2 dozen times and just gotten overwhelmed and put everything back in. I also never felt like I could justify getting rid of anything because "there was nothing wrong with it" or buying anything because "I had a closet full of clothes" and therefore didn't need it. Cassandra and Lucia totally got where I was coming from and went through an extensive closet edit with me. They were very patient with my overwhelm and numerous questions; I really wanted to learn the why behind things and understand how things were coming together and what I really needed in my wardrobe to nail the style we put together with my Pinterest board. A lot of what I like is on chic end, but that feeling needed to be translated to everyday and wear-to-clinic attire, and I think we got there. The process for me ended up being more than just a style alignment; it was also a mindset shift with Lucia as my style therapist. I was able to move away from a utility only mindset--that I needed to keep things that were no longer aligned with my current phase of life and not buy anything I didn't need--and reframe to seeing my wardrobe as an investment in myself and that having a higher quality item that you truly love and that brings you joy is reason in itself. Getting dressed is an essential part of the day, and it's now a bright spot in mine. I enjoy walking into my closet. When I packed for my last trip, there was no panic shopping involved. I felt put together every day for 3 weeks and only had a carry-on. 3 people in Greece told me I did not look American because I was dressed elegantly. Fabulous experience. Can't say enough good things about NLW. I needed a complete overhaul of my wardrobe. For most of my life, I'd relied on hand me downs, thrifting, and haphazard shopping. The result was a completely dysfunctional closet where nothing matched, nothing fit well or looked good on me, and it was hard to put outfits together. I was the quintessential person going into her closet every morning and complaining she had nothing to wear. I followed NLW on social media for years and learned a lot about fashion from their posts. In the meantime, I tried Stitch Fix and the free stylists at department stores, but I always ended up with clothes I hated. Those business models just weren't conducive to the level of personal attention or expertise I needed. The turning point was when my boss gave me a glowing review at work and said she planned to promote me soon. I should've been excited but all I could think was, "Shit, nobody is going to take me seriously dressed like this." I think I applied to NLW that afternoon. We finished our closet makeover just in time for me to jet off for a big work conference. Packing was a breeze, I got multiple outfits out of a handful of items, and I looked put together. After following Cassandra and NWL for many months on Instagram, I finally took the plunge and booked in for a virtual styling service with Maggie in February of this year. The team were amazing from start to finish - extremely professional, clear and organised for all the steps that I needed to go through. Maggie quickly understood my style goals and challenges that I faced today, and was always on hand to reassure me through the ups and downs. I found wardrobe edit phase of the process was quite daunting to go through, but the team were supportive and clear throughout, while never feeling judgemental. Working with Cassandra was a highlight of my summer in 2019. After almost a year of frustration with my closet, I decided to make the investment to work with a personal stylist. I loved that Cass's styling is based on a system - it lets you focus on what you need and do more with less (if that's your goal). She's also just a really fun person to spend the day with. Before we met up in NY, we worked together via hangout to review the clothes in my closet. When I got to New York, Cass directed me to beautiful fitting rooms full of curated clothes. I've been meaning to write a review for NLW for so long! I worked with Maggie in early spring of 2023, shortly after having my second child and getting a new administrative role at work.
