TheToysJustWannaHaveFun at Red Genesis…read more Red is a rad dude. I visited hid sweet little shop in Gastonia, NC this past holiday season, where I met the proprietor, Red. In business for ten months (if I remember details correctly), Red has a great thing going on, and I hope to visit and make some purchases again. The shop is cozy and not overflowing with a disorganized mess of toys, despite the fact he could probably squeeze more product in there. There are several display cases with some of my favorite toy lines, such as Exo-Squad, Masters of the Universe, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and so much more, with tons of great toys and action figures from the 1980s through today, and likely with some older vintage toys as well. He's got eclectic lines such as Germs (1988). There are packaged figures and loose figures bagged up, GI Joe, Star Wars, Marvel Legends, DC Superheroes, and so much more, to varying degrees of completeness. From what I could tell, prices are reasonable and competitive. Red has got video games and systems too. VHS! There are some good dollar comic books, which I partook in while also finding a fun LEGO insert catalog I missed out on during my "dark ages." There's a little free box where I got my Wizard of Oz-loving friend a great little Tin Man. I wanted to dig out one or two more things, but didn't want to be greedy, but there is some great stuff in there! I also witnessed Red being super awesome with a father and his young kid, finding some Captain America items to make that kid's day! That's some great service from someone who not only loves having this store, but also loves the sense of joy and wonder he can create within the community of collectors and players young and old. Heck, I called on a Tuesday (one of his closed days) and he answered to let me know his hours for the week--customer service can't exceed that quality! If you make it to the Charlotte, NC area, be sure to stop by Red Genesis, and consider dropping some green.

This is a great little retro video game store! I'll say right up front it's not as polished as some…read moreof the other places. It's an old building and it's got some old stuff in it. We call it treasure. ;) When you enter you'll find the newer titles for the modern systems up on the wall to your right. If you follow that wall to the back of the store there are old arcade games back there in various states. Some work, some don't. Others look like they are being restored. In the middle you'll find bins full of cartridges going back to the Atari 2600, NES, Super NES, N64, and I believe I saw some PS1 stuff as well. Finally along the left wall is the counter which has some of the nicer items in it along with stuff on the wall behind the counter. Some very cool old school stuff back there. Before checking out I had a chance to talk to the owner. I was wearing my OG Bullet Club shirt and only a wrestling fan is going to know what that is. We had a great chat about wrestling, gaming, etc. Cool dude. Also I watched him work a couple of trade-in's while I was there he more than generous compared to any Gamestop and many other retro stores. In the area visiting friends in Hickory, I spotted this comic shop close by and decided to stop by…read moreand check them out. I was astonished at the variety and depth of stock items. Comics, cards, figurines, Pops, Star Wars collectibles, Star Trek collectibles, Hot Wheels, etc. I would not have believed the huge stocks from the outside. Plus some oversized Star Wars items: R2D2, a Droid, and a diorama of Dogabah. These guys are fans first and retailers second. Had a nice conversation about comics and left them with information on checking out my collection and possible deals. They were friendly and knowledgeable and willing to help. Check them out! Just leave enough time to browse around and maybe find that one item you have been looking for.

It felt like the folks there were friends, and I immediately felt that way, too. I drove 30 minutes from where I was staying to get there, and it was worth the drive - not being from there, they helped answer questions before I arrived, and spent time while I was there answering even more. I bet if they don't already have what you're looking for, they would be able to get it for you. I looked around the store a little and some of their collectibles and figurines are pretty amazing. They're super responsive on Facebook for questions. I had found an old email online for them at some MTG site, and I don't think it worked. Not only did they have a good selection, not only did they have an excellent selection. They had the largest collection of Funko pops. I've ever seen under one roof. They had a lot of other really neat products too, including Asian food snacks. We made numerous purchases. The staff was super helpful super chill and the music was really good in the store. I saw them interact very gingerly with a young lady. Who had some slight social developmental issues. Class act Store all the way around. I only wish I lived closer... Will definitely have to come back. Plus they had video games for every platform and actual arcade games. I wanted to call out three of their workers for absolutely exceptional customer service. The first one and biggest amount of appreciation I wanted to extend is to Cody. His general knowledge of the tcgs gamers sells along side an encyclopedic knowledge of their inventory are both indespensable as a customer. I cannot count how many times I've come in for cards in the case and BECAUSE of his knowledge I've ended up grabbing cards I otherwise wouldnt have purchased I also buy my singles from gamers because they are always honest on the condition of the cards, another thing I wanted to specifically commend cody for being exceptional at. Next is Jessica. She's always very friendly, polite, knowledgeable, and makes us feel noticed and welcome whenever we are in the store. Her warmth is absolutely radiant and I truly think she's another standout. The last one i wanted to commend is Samuel. I have less interactions with him so less to say but my few interactions with him have all been positive and I generally feel hes another gem among the staff And then just to repeat it one final time, Cody is an absolute standout every time we go to the store. I often drive out of my way to come to gamers over alternatives after calling to confirm cody is there and working. It's that impactful and important when he is there that we will go out of our way to see him. 10/10 recommendation on all fronts. Do NOT miss this store if you like anything gaming and collectibles.
