I was a walk-in and was just going to let fate decide who cut my hair. As you might be able to tell, it was not a major problem, since I have 2 cowlicks, I have never felt I had a good looking cut, no matter what the person cutting did. I got Nick. Great guy to talk with and he is genuinely interesting! About 20-225 minutes later he said he was done. Shockingly, it was the best haircut I have ever had! Now, I only go to Nick, though the other people there seem to have happy clientele as well! The feel of an old time barbershop, but it's not. Call to see if Nick is working. I have been to Nexgen multiple times with different barbers and have had a good experience every time until now. My barber today was Austin (cowboy hat guy) who was abrasive and rushed my haircut. As I was leaving he unprompted said "watch your mouth, bud" to me. I can only assume he had problems with my use of swear words but the shop was empty of customers besides myself and he never expressed discontent with my conversation until the rude comment when I left. This confrontation completely ruined the atmosphere and experience for me. He is a fine enough barber, but made me extremely uncomfortable and unsatisfied with this shop. read more

I went here for a haircut after bouncing from chain salon to chain salon, never completely satisfied with the consistency I got from those chains. My wife is a huge fan of Tabitha's Salon Takeover, and after moving out to Rutherford County we happened to pass by and she ecstatically pointed out the shop and then looked them up here on Yelp to see if they were still in business. After reading reviews, she convinced me to give NexGen a try when I needed a haircut again. Stopped by today and was, to my surprise, greeted immediately and welcomed to a chair, no sign-in or anything. I love the atmosphere here (a nice mix of 80's and geek). For the price, I paid the cut was better than any chain I've been to but at a higher cost. I look forward to coming back. read more

Best barber shop in the area. Used to go to a couple different chain places and decided to try this place on a whim for something different. Ever since coming here back in 2020, I've not gone anywhere else since; there's simply no need to. The atmosphere is really neat as the walls are covered in 80's memorabilia and the staff is really friendly and often cut up with one another. Shelby, specifically, has been cutting my hair for over a year now. She's fantastic and the first time she cut my hair, I came home and my wife said "whoever cut your hair, you need to keep seeing." I used to come here when I was young, maybe up til age 12 or so. The barber my father and I used left and we transitioned to other barber shops, mostly great clips. After being fed up with sub par hair cuts I decided I wanted a real barber again, someone I would look forward to cutting my hair, that wasn't paid hourly and cared about return business. I remembered Nexgen as being a good place for a cut when I was young, so I decided to give it a try. The ownership has changed hands once or twice since I had been in but that didn't change the quality. Talk about a great place! The ambiance is good, enough classic feel without being outdated. I had my hair cut by Scott Thomae and he earned a customer with his attention to detail and the time and effort he obviously puts into every cut he does. It takes (what I might consider) a little bit longer for my hair to be cut (in the range of 30-45 minutes) but I like this. It isn't rushed, it feels personal like a barber and his customer should feel. The cut is a standard $18 and at this price feels like I am really getting more for my money than anywhere I have been in the last ten years. I have now been returning to Scott for about three or four months and will continue to do so for a long time to come. read more

After going to them for years and returning to Tennessee to see if they still had it: they still have it. Nexgen is an excellent barbershop with an extremely knowledgeable staff. The owners are serious professionals and their staff definitely care about their clients. They've gotten a little more expensive than some of their competition but it's my opinion they're worth the price. We came in (about 6 of us) first thing in the morning (they don't take appointments?) to get shaved and cleaned up. I got a bomb-tastic haircut too while I was there. I saw good reviews on this place and figured I'd give the barbershop a try since I no longer live near my barber. Came one day for a haircut and asked for a medium fade on the sides and that was not what I got. One side was practically balled and the other side wasn't faded and the barber told me that's how my hair is and kept trying to turn my head to face straight. I politely asked the barber next to us to confirm that my haircut wasn't right and once she did, the barber that was cutting my hair walked out the back door. RUDE!! Like no apology for f*#%ing up my hair cut?! I could've done a better job myself and I'm not even a trained barber! I have NEVER walked out of a barbershop without paying until that day. I had to drive all the way to goodlettsville just to have my barber fix my messed up hair cut. I'd give this place no stars if I could. 100% WOULD NOT recommend getting a haircut here unless there are barbers better than the clown that cut my hair. read more

My son and I needed haircuts quick for a family photo later in the afternoon that day. We checked in at about 8:30 am on a Saturday morning. Tim and Bethany were ready to go and it took minimal explaining for them to know what we needed in haircuts. Tim cut my hair and trimmed my beard up. Bethany did a great haircut on my son, not taking too much off and it seems like she had cut his hair for years. I highly recommend this barber shop over any other in the Murfreesboro area. The price was better than what we would get at sports clips or other chain haircut shop with about 100 times more the quality and atmosphere. We will try to get all of our haircuts here from now on. Proceed with extreme caution. I was cussed out, threatened & sheet ripped off of me. I had to call the police. I calmly, plainly, and nicely expressed a bit of concern and dissatisfaction over the haircut i received being too short, and asked for a few modifications to be made...during the conversation of trying to point out what I didn't like, out of nowhere - the owner (or someone who acts as such) just literally SNAPPED! He's nuts...guess the prison tats are for a reason. My barber sheet was ripped off me - and i was yelled at to: GET THE F*** OUT of HIS shop...multiple times. I made one attempt to calm him down, asking why he acting as such...also to explain to him that he can't speak to me like that, and that when the guy cutting my hair, and him started getting up in my face making threats. Needless to say - Murfreesboro police were called and are on their way. Complaint - filed. I have taken myself, and my sons many, many times. We will never, ever be going back - this guy is a loose cannon. Either he's drunk, or on the verge of a break-down, or so full of narcissistic rage that he can't take criticism. read more

I was in the area after lunch this afternoon and thought I would try it out after reading the reviews. I'm glad I did. It was good time of day to walk in, get a cut, and leave. A polite, young lady with glasses asked me how I wanted my hair cut. I told her to cut it the way she thinks it would look good. Afterwards she did an excellent job trimming my beard, shaved my neck, and (my personal favorite) put some "outlaw" beard oil in my beard. This is a cool place to get good service. People are friendly, the atmosphere makes me wish I drove a rat rod daily! read more

I stumbled upon this place by doing a google search. When I arrived, I was immediately brought you the back by Tim I believe. I don't know if he was having a bad day or what but he appeared to be angry and wanted to rush me along with my haircut. My son wanted a cut similar to mine after I finished and he seemed angry about having to do his hair and was pulling and jerking on my sons neck and in the end wound up cutting a bit more than my wife and I would have liked. I love taking my two boys to neXgen!! If I go during the week I'm in and out. On Saturday's I have to wait, but that's to be expected. My youngest boy is 3 and hates having his hair cut, but it's much easier here than anywhere. So I have been going to this place for the past ten years and have always had great customer service and awesome hair cuts. Over the past few years it has completely flipped. It went from a kind caring manager to an awful inconsiderate self centered jerk. The current owner thinks he is better than everyone. He treats his customers, employees, and even his wife who works there awful. The atmosphere at a barber shop is suppose to be chill but with him there is always tension. It's a real shame because all of his employees are awesome and good at their job. Several employees have quit to his expense. I went in one time with my three year old who was crying very badly the whole time and after cutting his ear he says he is done with the unfinished haircut and doesn't finish. This was after I told him my fiancé wanted to keep his hair longer but wanted to take a lot off and he snapped back and explained how that doesn't make any sense. It's a real wonder how this place has continued to stay open under his awful management. It has to be because of the already built recognition from the past and the current employees he luckily still has. I went to a place called shave on new Salem hwy recommended to me by my best friend and I will always return to this place. They have awesome customer service and professionals that can do anything you ask for even waxing. It really hurts me that I had to give this place a bad rating because it would have definitely been a perfect rating for many many years. So if you want a good haircut from here bring your earmuffs with you. If you want a good haircut with more options try this shave place out instead. read more

One of the best haircut experiences I've ever had. The owner was friendly and fun. He used a straight razor to cut the hair on the back of my neck and hot foam & towel. Then put on some aftershave that smells great. All this for a very reasonable price. You would expect to pay a lot more for this experience. I highly recommend! read more

This place is awesome! **** is my barber [I had his name and then realized I would be shooting myself in the foot the next time I wanted to walk in and get a cut] and I go every two weeks to get my hair cut whether I need it or not. I love the atmosphere and all the joking around and having fun. It's like old time barber shop with young people working there. My 5 year old nephew even likes it and kids are usually tripped out with that stuff! They have flat screen TVs all over the place playing sports programs and have a TV set up just to play sport video games. I get my hair cut high and tight and that is not an easy cut these days and they can accomplish the fade perfect every time. They are WAY UNDER-priced for their skills [of course I'm specifically speaking of **** but I watched many of the other barbers do similar work]. I highly recommend them!!!!!!! I'm not sure who cut Glen L.'s hair but I think he should give them another chance. I have to say if you go during peak hours you may have to wait a bit but if you're not picky with who cuts your hair you can usually get right in. read more
