I went here for a haircut after bouncing from chain salon to chain salon, never completely satisfied with the consistency I got from those chains. My wife is a huge fan of Tabitha's Salon Takeover, and after moving out to Rutherford County we happened to pass by and she ecstatically pointed out the shop and then looked them up here on Yelp to see if they were still in business. After reading reviews, she convinced me to give NexGen a try when I needed a haircut again. Stopped by today and was, to my surprise, greeted immediately and welcomed to a chair, no sign-in or anything. I love the atmosphere here (a nice mix of 80's and geek). For the price, I paid the cut was better than any chain I've been to but at a higher cost. I look forward to coming back. read more

A girl here cut my step son's hair. She did so well and was so quick Loved it! We will be returning. Definitely recommend. read more

I was a walk-in and was just going to let fate decide who cut my hair. As you might be able to tell, it was not a major problem, since I have 2 cowlicks, I have never felt I had a good looking cut, no matter what the person cutting did. I got Nick. Great guy to talk with and he is genuinely interesting! About 20-225 minutes later he said he was done. Shockingly, it was the best haircut I have ever had! Now, I only go to Nick, though the other people there seem to have happy clientele as well! The feel of an old time barbershop, but it's not. Call to see if Nick is working. If he is not, then give Elliott or someone else law a shot! It's only hair. It will need cut again pretty soon! Great place, great service and a awesome experience! read more

This place is where you need to go if you need a haircut, shave, or beard trim. All of the barbers that Tim and Bethany have in their shop are stellar barbers and really nice people. For me...Bethany is "DA BOMB" and while my haircut needs are simple she takes exceptional care of me and I feel welcome. read more

I have been to Nexgen multiple times with different barbers and have had a good experience every time until now. My barber today was Austin (cowboy hat guy) who was abrasive and rushed my haircut. As I was leaving he unprompted said "watch your mouth, bud" to me. I can only assume he had problems with my use of swear words but the shop was empty of customers besides myself and he never expressed discontent with my conversation until the rude comment when I left. This confrontation completely ruined the atmosphere and experience for me. He is a fine enough barber, but made me extremely uncomfortable and unsatisfied with this shop. read more

They delivered an excellent cut. The service was fast on a walk in. Good conversation too. read more

First timer I was a walk in Greeted with a smile and hello from a couple of the barbers I took a seat and maybe waited 10 minutes met with Austin showed him a picture of what type a cut I was looking for Austin went right to work we had some small talk to get to know each other a bit All said I enjoyed my visit and Austin did a fabulous job I will make an appointment for my next cut with Austin Great place read more

Best barber shop in the area. Used to go to a couple different chain places and decided to try this place on a whim for something different. Ever since coming here back in 2020, I've not gone anywhere else since; there's simply no need to. The atmosphere is really neat as the walls are covered in 80's memorabilia and the staff is really friendly and often cut up with one another. Shelby, specifically, has been cutting my hair for over a year now. She's fantastic and the first time she cut my hair, I came home and my wife said "whoever cut your hair, you need to keep seeing." Needless to say, I've listened. 5/5 stars. read more

This place is usually fast in and out with high quality cuts. The atmosphere is cool, with a lot of 80's nostalgia.

I was new to the area and needed a new barber. I had my first appointment with Olivia and now have a new barber. I like that the shop is funky and cool. My son got his haircut when visiting and liked his barber. Highly recommended read more

Austin was able to take me as a walk in and did a great job with a hair and beard trim. This place will be my go to barbershop from now on ! Thanks Austin read more

I have been here for my last 5 haircuts. Four different barbers. And while all have been amazing, today was the best haircut I have ever had. I hate that I don't remember her name because she was great. She cut my exactly as I wanted and trimmed my beard. That was not just a haircut, it was a therapy session as well, because I walked out of there feeling great. I have found my permanent barber. Thanks Next Gen. read more

I've never once in my life had "the perfect haircut" and I always just accepted that. Places got close enough, so I had to settle for that. That was until I went here! For the first time in my life, I had my hair cut, 100% perfectly - exactly as I asked for it! I will no longer be going anyplace else, except for here. Shout out to Nicholas for being such a professional, and treating my haircut like it was a work of art and he the artist. If you have not checked this place out, I suggest you do so immediately. read more

Hot towel treatment and neck shave is awesome. The guys and ladies in here really now what they are doing. Me and my two young boys, 5 & 3, get our haircut here. The price here is great and they really do know what they are doing compared to some other shops in town. No lines in your fade and a clean neck. read more

I used to come here when I was young, maybe up til age 12 or so. The barber my father and I used left and we transitioned to other barber shops, mostly great clips. After being fed up with sub par hair cuts I decided I wanted a real barber again, someone I would look forward to cutting my hair, that wasn't paid hourly and cared about return business. I remembered Nexgen as being a good place for a cut when I was young, so I decided to give it a try. The ownership has changed hands once or twice since I had been in but that didn't change the quality. Talk about a great place! The ambiance is good, enough classic feel without being outdated. I had my hair cut by Scott Thomae and he earned a customer with his attention to detail and the time and effort he obviously puts into every cut he does. It takes (what I might consider) a little bit longer for my hair to be cut (in the range of 30-45 minutes) but I like this. It isn't rushed, it feels personal like a barber and his customer should feel. The cut is a standard $18 and at this price feels like I am really getting more for my money than anywhere I have been in the last ten years. I have now been returning to Scott for about three or four months and will continue to do so for a long time to come. read more

After going to them for years and returning to Tennessee to see if they still had it: they still have it. Nexgen is an excellent barbershop with an extremely knowledgeable staff. The owners are serious professionals and their staff definitely care about their clients. They've gotten a little more expensive than some of their competition but it's my opinion they're worth the price. Don't be intimidated by the punk rock vibe, they give fantastic haircuts of all varieties. read more

Hot damn, i'm a good lookin man! Thanks to NexGen for making my wedding party look bad ass on my wedding day! We came in (about 6 of us) first thing in the morning (they don't take appointments?) to get shaved and cleaned up. I got a bomb-tastic haircut too while I was there. Came out looking better than even and my face was smoother than.... Well.. It was smooth! Had a great time with the barbers there too! This place absolutely KILLS the other "mens" barbershops in town.. and on Thompson Lane.... and named after a gender of chicken..... Just sayin. read more

I went here for the first time this week (just moved to town) and Kevin gave me a great hair cut. This place has a fun vibe and they do great work. I moved from LA where there are some really amazing barber shops. I was nervous about finding a great barber in the Boro. My search is over. This place is great. read more

The owner is a jerk. He is never in a good mood and needs to retire his shears. I took my 4-year-old to get a haircut. The owner said it wouldn't be a problem. Apparently, he was having a bad day because he seemed angry and fuming the entire time. He jerked my kid's head around to get in the right place and had no patience with him. I told him this was my son's second haircut ever so my son needed a bit more guidance. Those words beaded off him apparently. He glowered the entire time pulling and jerking him around. No patience. Not a single word. Just angry silence. He didn't even cut my son's hair to the length I requested. Saying something to him at the time would have been unwise as I didn't want to escalate anything with this man in front of my 4- year- old son. There are MANY other places in Murfreesboro to go for a good haircut from awesome people with way better attitudes. This place needs to go. read more

I saw good reviews on this place and figured I'd give the barbershop a try since I no longer live near my barber. Came one day for a haircut and asked for a medium fade on the sides and that was not what I got. One side was practically balled and the other side wasn't faded and the barber told me that's how my hair is and kept trying to turn my head to face straight. I politely asked the barber next to us to confirm that my haircut wasn't right and once she did, the barber that was cutting my hair walked out the back door. RUDE!! Like no apology for f*#%ing up my hair cut?! I could've done a better job myself and I'm not even a trained barber! I have NEVER walked out of a barbershop without paying until that day. I had to drive all the way to goodlettsville just to have my barber fix my messed up hair cut. I'd give this place no stars if I could. 100% WOULD NOT recommend getting a haircut here unless there are barbers better than the clown that cut my hair. read more

Tried this place out and I am hooked. The people here are great and they really get customer service. This is in my opinion the best place for a hair cut, old style shave, and good conversation. read more

Great place. Got a high fade and a straight shave. There was no wait, and my total was 33$. I'll be going here from now on, fuck shave "lounge." read more

My son and I needed haircuts quick for a family photo later in the afternoon that day. We checked in at about 8:30 am on a Saturday morning. Tim and Bethany were ready to go and it took minimal explaining for them to know what we needed in haircuts. Tim cut my hair and trimmed my beard up. Bethany did a great haircut on my son, not taking too much off and it seems like she had cut his hair for years. I highly recommend this barber shop over any other in the Murfreesboro area. The price was better than what we would get at sports clips or other chain haircut shop with about 100 times more the quality and atmosphere. We will try to get all of our haircuts here from now on. Wish they were in Atlanta! read more

Proceed with extreme caution. I was cussed out, threatened & sheet ripped off of me. I had to call the police. I calmly, plainly, and nicely expressed a bit of concern and dissatisfaction over the haircut i received being too short, and asked for a few modifications to be made...during the conversation of trying to point out what I didn't like, out of nowhere - the owner (or someone who acts as such) just literally SNAPPED! He's nuts...guess the prison tats are for a reason. My barber sheet was ripped off me - and i was yelled at to: GET THE F*** OUT of HIS shop...multiple times. I made one attempt to calm him down, asking why he acting as such...also to explain to him that he can't speak to me like that, and that when the guy cutting my hair, and him started getting up in my face making threats. Needless to say - Murfreesboro police were called and are on their way. Complaint - filed. I have taken myself, and my sons many, many times. We will never, ever be going back - this guy is a loose cannon. Either he's drunk, or on the verge of a break-down, or so full of narcissistic rage that he can't take criticism. read more

I was in the area after lunch this afternoon and thought I would try it out after reading the reviews. I'm glad I did. It was good time of day to walk in, get a cut, and leave. A polite, young lady with glasses asked me how I wanted my hair cut. I told her to cut it the way she thinks it would look good. Afterwards she did an excellent job trimming my beard, shaved my neck, and (my personal favorite) put some "outlaw" beard oil in my beard. This is a cool place to get good service. People are friendly, the atmosphere makes me wish I drove a rat rod daily! read more

This is a GREAT barber shop and I would recommend it to anyone! Haircuts are reasonably priced and they do a great job. Staff is super nice!!! My previous barber retired and I was trying to find someone who could give me a decent haircut. Nexgen sold me on the first visit and I will continue to go back to them. read more

Have been here twice and got a quality haircut both times. No hassle and no bs when it comes to getting in and out. They require no check in and it only costs $20 for a cut. Will be back again. read more

This place rocks! I called when they opened to schedule an appointment but they're a walk in place so that was cool too. I walked in to an awesome atmosphere, no wait, immediately got down to an excellent haircut, got a shampoo and a hot shave! Super friendly service too! Priced appropriately at $48 for everything since she spent an hour and a half on me. I'll definitely be back! read more

I stumbled upon this place by doing a google search. When I arrived, I was immediately brought you the back by Tim I believe. I don't know if he was having a bad day or what but he appeared to be angry and wanted to rush me along with my haircut. My son wanted a cut similar to mine after I finished and he seemed angry about having to do his hair and was pulling and jerking on my sons neck and in the end wound up cutting a bit more than my wife and I would have liked. If we ever go back, I'd DEFINITELY see someone else besides Tim. What a jerk! read more

I love taking my two boys to neXgen!! If I go during the week I'm in and out. On Saturday's I have to wait, but that's to be expected. My youngest boy is 3 and hates having his hair cut, but it's much easier here than anywhere. The people that do hair are great with pre-occupying my little one and are UP to date on what my 12 year old likes. I think this is a great place. read more

Great, laid back men's barbershop. All the barbers are top notch. I've been going here for a while and have left with an excellent haircut everytime, usually from Elliott and sometimes Tim. My 4 year old son gets his hair by them too (since his first haircut) and they are good and patient with kids. I would recommend this barbershop to anyone. Good location too. read more

So I have been going to this place for the past ten years and have always had great customer service and awesome hair cuts. Over the past few years it has completely flipped. It went from a kind caring manager to an awful inconsiderate self centered jerk. The current owner thinks he is better than everyone. He treats his customers, employees, and even his wife who works there awful. The atmosphere at a barber shop is suppose to be chill but with him there is always tension. It's a real shame because all of his employees are awesome and good at their job. Several employees have quit to his expense. I went in one time with my three year old who was crying very badly the whole time and after cutting his ear he says he is done with the unfinished haircut and doesn't finish. This was after I told him my fiancé wanted to keep his hair longer but wanted to take a lot off and he snapped back and explained how that doesn't make any sense. It's a real wonder how this place has continued to stay open under his awful management. It has to be because of the already built recognition from the past and the current employees he luckily still has. I went to a place called shave on new Salem hwy recommended to me by my best friend and I will always return to this place. They have awesome customer service and professionals that can do anything you ask for even waxing. It really hurts me that I had to give this place a bad rating because it would have definitely been a perfect rating for many many years. So if you want a good haircut from here bring your earmuffs with you. If you want a good haircut with more options try this shave place out instead. read more

One of the best haircut experiences I've ever had. The owner was friendly and fun. He used a straight razor to cut the hair on the back of my neck and hot foam & towel. Then put on some aftershave that smells great. All this for a very reasonable price. You would expect to pay a lot more for this experience. I highly recommend! read more

It's the best haircut, for the best price, by the best barbers in town. I come in once a month, and I'm treated like an old friend every time. They remember my style, they remember my name, and they give fantastic service. Hands down the best barber shop in town. read more

This place is just great. I typically get my hair cut by Ryan and he does a tremendous job. The shop is clean and a has a great atmosphere

This place is awesome! **** is my barber [I had his name and then realized I would be shooting myself in the foot the next time I wanted to walk in and get a cut] and I go every two weeks to get my hair cut whether I need it or not. I love the atmosphere and all the joking around and having fun. It's like old time barber shop with young people working there. My 5 year old nephew even likes it and kids are usually tripped out with that stuff! They have flat screen TVs all over the place playing sports programs and have a TV set up just to play sport video games. I get my hair cut high and tight and that is not an easy cut these days and they can accomplish the fade perfect every time. They are WAY UNDER-priced for their skills [of course I'm specifically speaking of **** but I watched many of the other barbers do similar work]. I highly recommend them!!!!!!! I'm not sure who cut Glen L.'s hair but I think he should give them another chance. I have to say if you go during peak hours you may have to wait a bit but if you're not picky with who cuts your hair you can usually get right in. read more
