I have been taking private lessons with Shantala, who really knows her stuff and is such a warm delightful person that I feel the stress peeling away within the first 5 minutes of my class. She has quietly and gently convinced me that I am capable of positions outside of my comfort zone and she has been right every time. After four months of training, I am stronger, more flexible and, most importantly, more confident in my body. I recently took a class with Sarah and - no surprise - she is great too. I am 63 yo and I can't count the number of gyms, videos, trainers, gizmos that I have invested in over the past 40 years. I have found my forever studio. And if you have never tried Pilates, run, don't walk - it feels like being massaged from the inside out....

I was in constant severe pain from a neurological condition, and was not sure I would be able to engage in much physical activity. I decided to try an introductory Pilates package after chatting with Ilene. I saw right away how much effort Ilene put into understanding the neuromuscular system, and into creating an individualized plan for each client. She used a variety of techniques that allowed me to modify exercises and avoid exacerbating my condition, and she gave me techniques to use to avoid pain in activities of daily living as well, such as getting in and out of the car. Working with her has increased my strength and flexibility, improved my posture and gait, helped reduce my pain, and improved my quality of life. Ilene is passionate about helping people get out of pain, and truly cares about her clients' progress.

I love barre3! I live only about 6 minutes from the studio so I decided to try a barre class, never…read morehaving done one before. I'd been driving 25 minutes each way to a Bikram studio, and that was getting tough to regularly keep up with. I now realize how LUCKY I am to live so close to barre3 Newtown! The barre3 workout itself is great - I like structure in my class (hence Bikram, where you do the same 26 poses twice each time) - but I like that this is a bit different. There is always the same "flow" to class, in that you target certain areas in a certain order for a set amount of time, but they mix up the actual exercises that you do each time. I thought I was in shape before I started here but I am really noticing a difference in my muscles from barre3! I will say that while a lot of women have found it helps them lose weight I've actually noticed the opposite, but I think it's due to added muscle growth and the fact that I didn't really have much "weight" in terms of fat to lose. So just don't be discouraged if you are in shape and notice a weight increase despite the barre3 weight loss marketing! Remember: fit is the new skinny :) As far as this studio goes specifically, I love that both rooms have a light and airy feel to them and the women's locker room is always clean and has just the right amenities! I've had classes with probably half a dozen or so different instructors at this point, and I find that they are very consistent in their approaches, so I don't have to worry about making it to class on a specific day at a specific time because I know my workout will be great no matter who is teaching!

Excellent studio in the heart of Newtown. The instructors are great and the classes are fun!read more

I called today, Monday, January 6th asking if the studio was open due to snow (roads were drivable and not bad at all but wanted to check -- and they were open) but my mom called me saying that my son was lethargic and complaining of stomach pain and I called his doctor to bring him in because he wasn't feeling well and had a high fever. I called the studio letting them know of the family emergency and I spoke to (I believe her name was) Liz. She was the most rude and non understanding person on the phone. She talked with attitude, did not seem sympathetic, and was like "you're telling me two different things. You want to cancel and you have a family emergency." No shit? I have to cancel because of a family emergency? And I called to see if there was anything to do because of the cancellation period. And all she said to me was "Well I'm going to cancel as courtesy for you this time but next time I won't" This is not great customer service and I feel like I was treated so poorly as a member of this studio. I did not want to cancel on purpose and things come up and happen. Do better and don't treat your members like they are not human. The interaction has been so distasteful, I'm considering switching locations where I feel more welcomed and they have more empathy.

I had a very humiliating and discriminatory experience at Witt Pilates…read more I am hard of hearing and signed up for a package of 10 group classes that were advertised as appropriate for "newbies." I attended two group classes without incident. Before and during class, I simply asked that instructors face me when giving instructions, as I was unfamiliar with the equipment and rely on visual cues. This is a very minimal and reasonable accommodation. When I attempted to attend my third class, the owner called me and told me I was no longer welcome in group classes. I was told that the instructors were "uncomfortable," that they could not "focus on other people in class," and that excluding me was "for everyone's safety." I was then told my only option was to take private lessons at a higher cost. No other accommodations were offered. I had already demonstrated that I could participate safely and appropriately, and no safety issue had occurred. I was excluded solely because of my hearing disability and my request for basic communication access. Denying someone access to group classes and requiring them to pay more because of a disability is discriminatory and not acceptable for a business open to the public. Asking an instructor to face a participant when giving instructions does not prevent them from teaching others. I would strongly caution anyone with a disability--or anyone who expects inclusive, professional practices--to think twice before coming here.
