Newton Park overlooks Lake Apopka and is a nice park to.head towards of you are in the Winter Garden area. It is not very far from the Downtown Winter Garden area and again, it overlooks Lake Apopka and offer some nice water views. There were quite a few people in the general area when I pulled up to this park. It is obviously a very popular spot with the locals around here. The park was named after Winter Garden's first mayor, A.B. Newton. Newton Park is a convenient and tranquil place to get away from the hustle and bustle of modern day living. In fact, I came here following a business meeting to unwind for a moment and it was a nice break from my day. While this is not a huge park, it is a nice place to kick back for a minute. I would definitely recommend a visit here if you are in Winter Garden and looking for a break. I will give it five stars overall.

A free trip to enioy free bathrooms, free park, free playground with a pool boat launch and wildlife galore. This is a great day trip people come and sit in their car and have lunch.

Newton Park has a playground, fishing pier, boat launch and covered pavilion. The playground seems old but it's well maintained and sits under huge shade trees. There is a lot of fun activities to keep kids busy and entertained. Although they have a fishing pier and a boat launch Lake Apopka Is a polluted lake. I highly advise that you spend your time enjoying the natural beauty that surrounds the water and do nothing that involves getting wet. They have been working on reversing the damage for years and are making progress but it's not there yet. You will see alligators around the lake and signs asking you not to feed them.

Review # 921. My wife and I went here one Sunday afternoon, to check out the lake. I have no idea how massive Lake Apopka is. It is so big we could barely see the other side. It was a pretty lazy Sunday afternoon, there was nobody there. I must say it was a little cloudy, and had just finished raining. My wife and I took a long walk down a long pier. Beautiful area to see Florida in its natural beauty. Like I had shown in my picture, there was a bird right there greeting us on the tree. There were several birds making all kinds of noise just a few feet from the shore, being closely guarded by three alligators. We also saw a turtle bobbing his head up and down in the water.

I visited Newton Park for the first time a few weeks ago and it is GORGEOUS! There is so much history associated with this park that I did not know about. There is a huge board in the park that tells how the lake was very popular and had several fishing camps in the 1920's. Although the history was interesting it was also sad because I learned that the lake use to be so clear that you could see the bottom and the fishing was abundant. Due to poor farming practices and overfishing the bottom of the lake has a significant amount of algae and pollution. Thankfully there are restoration efforts underway. The park has a beautiful pavilion, a playground, a paved walkway, a boat ramp, and a fishing pier. There is a big variety of birds at the park, which is nice because we watched them interact, swim, fly, and fish. There are also a variety of flowers and plants in the park. It was a short, enjoyable walk. There isn't much shade at the park except under the pavilion so wear sunscreen and bring sunglasses!

What a peaceful, scenic park! I went to a car shop in Winter Garden and before going home I thought I'd take advantage of the 45 ride from home and check out Lake Apopka. Didn't expect to come across such a nice access to it. The lakefront park is called Newton Park. Driving in, on one side it has neatly kept mobile homes. Turning in front of the beautifully maintained green area was a rose garden with viewing benches in the middle, a large shaded picnic area nearby and a large, elegant clubhouse. Nice homes across from it. Past that, a large playground and a boat ramp by the lake. Going into the park towards the lake from the rose garden side, is a treat for the eyes, with a large lakefront gazebo, mature shade trees over beautifully kept lawns with walkway and benches. One very quaint bench among trees lakefront made for a perfect place to take in the lake view and sounds of the many birds. Also a couple of white viewing bridges to walk on (saw much of the wildlife from there), and between the two, a long wooden pier that seems to disappear into the lake. - not so, it's a wonderful walk with small grass islands full of wildlife, a shaded bench area midway, and and a large part at the far edge with plenty of seating. Egrets, herons, and numerous other birds I can't ID along the way. Aside from the birds in constant movement -- alligators!! I saw at least five and when I got to the end of the pier and looked out over the immense lake and sky, one particular alligator in the distance spotted me and began swimming curiously towards me. This seems like a good place to spend some time with nature and/or friends.

I nice little place to walk and relax and enjoy the view. There are benches, public restrooms, water fountains, a boat launch, playground, a nice shady gazebo, big dock, and plenty of picnic areas. I really appreciate green space especially ones that aren't sketchy, (something I've had trouble finding in central Florida) so this one of a few gems I frequent to stop and enjoy the outside.

It underwent a major renovation in 2021 where they added lots of amenities and made everything brand new. Even now, 5 years later, everything has been so well maintained and still feels like new. They have a free miniature golf putting course, an awesome splash pad, shaded playgrounds, basketball courts, and a nice nature walking path. You'll also find shaded picnic pavilions and a community garden. My son absolutely loves coming here. The parking lot can be a little tricky to find because my GPS using Google Maps never takes me to the right place. Don't let the location detour you from visiting. It's such a nice park and feels very safe.

The neighborhood and the park is named after one of the earliest property owner's daughter's favorite novel, Lorna Doone, written by English author, Richard Doddridge Blackmore, published in 1869. Lake Lorna Doone was the site of the South's first integrated Little League Baseball game on August 9, 1955. The 1955 little league season was the first after US Supreme Court rulings had eliminated "separate but equal" conditions in the nation's schools and public parks. The Pensacola Jaycees were declared winners of their local district by Little League headquarters in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. When local officials would not allow them to play against the all-white teams they instead advanced to the Florida State Tournament which was held at Lake Lorna Doone Park. They ended up losing to host Orlando in the second round, 5-0 but they were welcomed by the hometown crowd and given encouragement. In 2021, 12 acre Lake Lorna Doone Park underwent an $8 million renovation. Added to the park was the nine hole Arnold Palmer Putting Experience, fitness stations, a playground, football fields, basketball courts, a splash pad and the Winnie Palmer Nature Trail. I especially liked the nature trail where I got to see native plants and wildlife. With the upgrades, this park now has all of the amenities needed to inspire a healthy, active lifestyle for the West Lakes families who live in this neighborhood and all who visit.

We had a free Saturday with perfect weather and wanted a great spot to take our son -- this park delivered in every way. Just a stone's throw from downtown Winter Garden, it's a hidden gem connected to the West Orange Trail, ideal for bike rides, stroller walks, or just a peaceful stroll under the shaded trees. The park itself is spotless and beautifully maintained, with plenty of open space and a relaxing atmosphere. It's a little big for our son right now, but we found a baby swing he loved, and exploring the mini garden with its pond and waterfall was such a nice touch. You can tell this park was thoughtfully designed for both kids and parents to enjoy. We'll definitely be returning for years to come as our son grows -- it's the kind of place that makes you want to spend all day outside. If you're looking for a true oasis in the heart of Winter Garden, strap on your helmet and ride over to this beautiful park! ‍
