In the opposite direction, services go into Stalybridge, again with one train per hour. The station is fairly clean, services are limited as expected for a Category E station. There are toilets, however, they do require a key, it can be a little annoying having to find a staff member though, as far as I'm aware the station is only staffed at certain times, so I'm not sure what happens with the toilets when the staff go home. There is a small waiting shelter providing seating and shelter. There are ramps and lifts to get to the platforms. The town's bus and Metrolink station are both a short walk away, allowing you to continue your journey. 3* - Although fairly quiet ever since the Metrolink came to town, despite not being too impressive, it provides adequate transport facilities and is nice to have in Ashton-Under-Lyne.

There is a small waiting office on the platform that also house the ticket office and a snack machine. The Metro paper is availible FREE in the mornings on the platform. The waiting room is well lit and clean and tidy, staff are helpful and there is always a well stocked selection of Time tables and leaflets on show. There is a small carpark at the front of the station with some restrictions. Ashton-Under-Lyne Bus station is across the road. Ikea is a 10 Minute walk from the Train station and the town centre and Ashton Market is across the Road.

I feel a tad bit mean for only giving this station a three star. But someone might see this and…read moreagree with me. All other stations have been updated such as Stalybridge and Greenfield. Sadly they missed little old Mossley out for some reason. It is in need of an update, whether they are planning on that I do not know but this is one old fashioned railway station. The ticket master guy is now my friend as I use the train all the time so it is nice to see a friendly face in the morning. Others may not think so. Another problem with this station is that some trains do not stop here, as it is not considered a major station even though every morning it is crammed full. So you have to be careful of that. Trains do run into Manchester every hour and also on the other side, they go to Huddersfield. Beware if you are going to Huddersfield as the price is around £9.00 return as you cross the county border into Yorkshire. There is seating available at the station but on them cold mornings all you want is heat especially if the train is running late! An update is needed for the Mossley folk. A great looking building though from the outside!

For me the biggest issue is that returning from Manchester with a children's buggy you have to go via HUDDERSFIELD to avoid the stairs, so forget about disabled access.

From here, you can get into Exchange Square for Manchester city centre in just 8 minutes, with the terminus stations for East Didsbury and Rochdale, taking 34 minutes and 40 minutes respectively. The station is one of the few on the Metrolink system to include a singular multi-directional platform, with trams in both directions using the same platform, so do be careful to make sure you get on the right tram. Being a former railway station that was converted to Metrolink in 2012, you may see the odd freight train pass, which is pretty cool. The station is pretty much your average Metrolink station, accessed by a small number of steps or ramped access from street level. The station has adequate shelter to protect from rain and live departure boards, one thing I like is how they have a separate board for each direction, to remove confusion. There isn't much around the station, and street parking can get full quickly so it is only centred towards residents of the local area. 3*
