I have a mysterious pain in a tooth. X-rays at my regular dentist did not indicate any problem. My dentist gave me a choice of 2 specialists to help diagnose the pain. Now, I had another problem. I had to choose one or the other. They were both very different. One had an incredible website with all the information you would ever need. The other had no website. No website? How could this be? There were reviews but no back round. I was impressed with the reviews. After much digging I found a write up of his back round. My decision was made. I chose the specialist with no website. His name is Mani Moulazadeh. I made an appointment I explained my situation and he solved my mysterious pain. The office is impressive with an engaging staff. He was easy to relate to. I felt at ease immediately. I almost cannot wait to need a root canal ! Imagine that ! I was so impressed with him that here I am writing my first review. His back round is impressive I hardly know where to start. He has a degree in engineering. That is impressive enough but he worked as an engineer for 3 years before he went to Boston University Dental School He graduated cum laude from BU Dental School in 2000. And there is lots more. I impressed upon him that he needs to set up a website to let people know who he is. However, I am impressed that he never felt the need to set one up. He has been practicing for many years and has depended on word of mouth. He knows his craft and excels at it. I am so lucky that I made the right choice. read more

Dr. Mani was professional and a master of his craft. He explained clearly up front and during the procedure. It was my first root canal, and while uncomfortable was not nearly as bad as I had expected. I had a difficult fused root under a molar, and the final x-ray showed really nice filling in of the 3 roots. I hope I do not need another one, but if i do i would go to Dr. Mani. read more

Absolutely horrible. He yelled at this assistants and lacked understanding. His front desk called me back when I was canceling my appointment to tell me how irresponsible I was. I lacked the funds and needed to get my permanent crown on. I ended up coming in crying. She never apologize or said anything after that, but did remind me I was lucky I wasn't paying a late fee, for being late to my appointment. Little did they know I was struggling with Multiple Sclerosis and the fatigue and dizziness was horrible that day. Do NOT come here if you struggle with dental care due to genetics or health conditions. Especially if you have anxiety. HORRIBLE. read more

It feels weird giving 5 stars to a person that gave me a root canal, but I'm not going to lie - Dr. Mani at Newton Endodontics was excellent. He's a no-nonsense, straightforward kind of guy- a man of few words. Sometimes, that's a little scary (I'm someone who needs a little hand-holding for this stuff, typically), but I'd prefer a more solemn-faced, excellent doctor, over someone who will baby me but just do an OK job. The woman at the front desk was so sweet - she kind of makes you feel "at home" at a place where most are nervous wrecks. Honestly - she was so sweet. Hygienists were very nice, too - the small talk helped calm my nerves a bit. It was my first root canal, and I had zero idea of what to expect. He did tell me before he started that it's never as bad as people say, and for the most part, he was right. There definitely was SOME pain (I mean, you have to expect a little), but he was great. My wife and I were traveling in the Newton area on business when she experienced acute mouth pain on a Sunday evening. We had no idea who to call so I used Yelp to find a Dentist. Dr. Mani came up so I called him. He returned the call within 15 minutes and had us come into his office first thing Monday morning. Once we arrived, found out this was an acute infection and life-threatening. Dr. Mani proceeded to work on her mouth and completed some temporary work until the next day. We came back and he continued his process, all the while encouraging my wife and dampening her hightened sense of fear. Another two visits and her mouth is good as new! Dr. Mani caught the infection before it traveled to her brain and killed her...for that, I am eternally grateful! Our overall experience at Newton Endodontics was very positive, from the receptionist to the Dr. They were wonderful. How often does the patient receive daily calls from the Dr. inquiring as to how she is feeling? Dr. Mani and his staff are a very caring and skilled group of professionals and I highly recommend them! And thank you Doc!! read more

I should start off by stating that I am a nightmare of dental patient. I am sure that most dentists I've dealth with have gone into early retirement following their appointments with me. Knowing this about myself, I was HORRIFIED when I learned that I had to get a root canal. I was referred to Dr. Mani by the Gentle Dental office in Brighton. I called his office on the phone and I spoke directly with him in order to give him the full background on my dental anxiety. I assured him the I would yelp, cry, tremble, shiver...you name it. I basically offered him an out, all but telling him that if he didn't think he wanted to deal with me, I could go elsewhere. When I told him I was thinking of pursuing an appointment with a sedation dentist, he assured me that he could give me the same oral sedative, and that it would send me straight to la-la land. There was, he said, a good chance that I would remember nothing, or very little, about the procedure. When I went in to the office for my appointment, he was as lovely and kind as he had been on the phone. As the root canal got underway, it became apaprent that the medication he had given me had the same sedative effect as, say, a tic-tac. I was wide awake in my own personal root canal hell. And yea, I'm gonna admit it...I was NOT at my best. I did everything that one can possibly do to compromise one's dignity. Crying? Check. Yelping? Check. Squirming? Check Trembling? Check Pleading for some merciful all powerful being to descend upon the scene and end it all? Check. The thing that was kind of a bummer was that Dr. Mani obviously became annoyed with me somewhere along the line, and asked me a few times, "Why are you so upset? Calm down. Relax." (Not kindly, mind you, but with brimming annoyance). After the appointment was over, I apologized for my antics in the dental chair. The dental assistants were absolutely lovely, brushing off my apologies as totally unnecessary. They were sympathetic and caring and made me feel like I might NOT be the biggest idiot in the entire universe. (Even though, come on, on the heels of a root canal, I wasn't lookin' so cool). When I got to the front desk, I apologized again to Dr. Mani. All I got in return was his expression of gratitude that he does not have to deal with many patients like me and that it's lucky for him that I'm a real rarity in his patient load. I was dumbstruck. Did he really say that crap out loud, you ask? Yeah, he did. He didn't wait until I was out of the office and safely away from earshot to bash me. He did it right there in front of me. The crap part is that I tried to do the right thing in warning this guy that it was going to get ugly. He could have encouraged me to go to the sedation dentist as I had been poised to do. I gave him the low-down, and he urged me to come in nevertheless. I felt like kind of a jackass when he made his contempt for my anxiety so obvious. I kind of wanted to say, "Well, it's doctors like you who CREATE patients like me." But I didn't bother. My face was all numbed up and crap so I would have just sounded like even more of a bumbling idiot than I already looked to be. I paid my 340 bucks (damn, that root canal must have run around 1700 bucks if that was 20% of it) I experienced some pain that following the procedure that I thought mgiht be atypical. I decided to swallow my pride and call to ask. I left a message and never got a call back. But OK, maybe I should give the good news now. According to my own dentist, this root canal was performed expertly and was "elegant". You'd have to be a dentist to describe a root canal as such. read more

I had the SAME EXACT EXPERIENCE as Nancy. I was dreading my first root canal (who doesn't?) and I am not a great patient. I am however polite, professional and try to keep my nervousness to myself. However, Dr. Mani had absolutely no patience or tolerance for my situation. He was equally rude to his staff. It's a root canal...you're never going to get a 5 star review. I'm reviewing this 3 years later than the other 2 reviews, who's reviews scared the hell out of me. Here's what I'll say: Dr. Mani knows what he's doing and will explain it all to you if you engage him. I had a difficult calcified root due to a birth defect correction I had as a child. It was my first root canal, and I'm extremely phobic about all things dental/oral due to a lifetime of braces/surgeries/ etc. They saw me quick, explained what the issues were, and didn't push me to get a root canal if l wanted to wait and see. I decided the next day to go for it, they got me in that day (less anxiety build-up). As someone who's afraid of dental stuff, a root canal actually isn't that bad; it's not so much pain as the sound/smell of drilling. He does the job very professionally and even teaches it at BU in his off-time. read more

Was in intense pain, and even though I was not a patient of them yet, I called their emergency number on the weekend, and some hours later even got a phone call back (my own dentist did not call me back). Dr. Mani was very nice, asking me some questions as to the nature of my pain and giving good suggestions for the painkillers I could take and how much. When I went in to their office on monday for an emergency visit, they took some x-rays (the assistant did not know how to take them yet and being in so much pain that was a bit agonizing). The dentist (Dr. Mani's partner) ended up doing the x-rays and it was determined for me to come back in a few hours for a root canal. He was very friendly, patient and careful, checking in with me frequently how I was doing. I felt well taken care off and respected as a person on his part. My root canal seems to be healing well and I would most definitely use them again in the future. read more

This review is long over due. I had a nightmare of a tooth that literally had to be looked at, drilled, etc probably 6 times over a few months because I was pregnant and the dentist couldn't finish the procedure because they needed X-rays. Long story short my dentist said as a last resort I might have to have surgery to get to the root through the gum above my tooth. Super. I was dreading this moment!!! I was referred to one endodontist that couldn't fix the problem both before and after the baby. Next stop Dr. mani. I'm your typical anxious/ can't-stand- dental- work person and definitely pissed off at all of the money I spent on this tooth before I even got to Dr. Mani. I can appreciate his sense of humor- a lot of sarcasm but that's my personality and he was just trying to make me relax. There is no shortage of confidence in his skills-- But let me tell you- after the disaster I've had with my tooth- I want my dentist to do it right this time and I certainly want the dr. can fix it! The procedure was not fun but I was not in pain and he was certain to ask if I needed more numbing meds. The next day I was very sore but surprisingly not unbearable. The incision healed great and he followed up with a personal call. He could be a little nicer to his staff but he expects perfection and I want whatever is going on in my mouth to be perfect as well. If you are looking for an outstanding endodontist who can do a phenomenal job- Dr. Mani is your man. Don't expect him to baby you - but he will hear your concerns and address them professionally. I completely recommend him. 4 stars because it is pricey but I suppose that is expected for this type of dental work. read more

Dr. Mani is....I can't even put it into words. He is magical! I was referred to him by Dental Partners of Watertown for an abscess that just was not responding to antibiotics so I had to get it surgically removed. So there I was 22, at the beginning of my last semester as an undergrad about to get my face cut open (yes, I'm a little dramatic). The worst part about it were the shots to numb me up(the simplest part), everything after that was smooth sailing. I closed my eyes because I didn't want to see what was happening and before I knew it, it was over. I went back to get the stitches removed a week later and that was completely painless. The abscess was sent to pathology and Dr. Mani told me that results show it wasn't cancerous. Woo hoo! The one thing that is VERY clear is that Dr. Mani knows what he is doing! Other reviews in regard to his bedside manner, and what not is not what I experienced at all. Everyone was pleasant from my first interaction to my last. Besides, I'd trade a dentist that holds my hand and potentially messes up for someone who gets straight to business and is an expert in their field. Wouldn't you? read more

I going to give another five star rating for Dr. Mani and his team. I needed (three!) root canals, and I had Dr. Mani do them all. After a few months, all three teeth seem to be in great shape, and the abscesses are all healed up. Making payments arrangements for all this work was a breeze, and everyone in this office is so friendly. I definitely have to keep Dr. Mani and his expert team in mind in the event that I need any more endodontic work in the future! read more

Very disappointed! I was notified 1 YEAR later that my insurance did not pay for surgical extraction and I was left with almost $500 bill. The front desk personnel was rude on the phone and did not explain the reason for my insurance denying the claim (don't they speak on the phone with them???). If I would have known ahead of time that my insurance would not cover this procedure, I wouldn't have gone to that place & would have done it somewhere else cheaper... They told me that they have mailed me many notices but I have never received them (& I'm always on top of my co-pays/bills!). My current DMD ALWAYS tells me ahead of time how much would his work cost, my co-pay, and whether my insurance will pay fully/partially for the procedure. I would NOT go back to Newton Endodontics and I would not recommend it to my friends. read more

Way overpriced! Paid $350 for a root canal (20% co-pay), which means the procedure cost a whopping $1,750! Per medicinenet.com "the average cost of a multi-rooted tooth (premolar or molar) may be anywhere from $500 to $1,400." I saw Mani for a root canal retreatment and extraction and had my one year follow-up today. My tooth is all healed-- I saw the xray with my own eyes! Yes, it's expensive, yes going through it is unpleasant, but the end result is really what matters, and he got a good result with me! He got an extra star for making it virtually painless. read more

Was refeered to him by my dentist. I had another endodontist say he was unable to do my root canal, and that my tooth would likely need to be extracted because it was slightly tilted back. Since it is the last molar, it apparently makes it slightly more difficult to do the procedure. Dr Mani got me in within the day, and talked me through the entire procedure, and told me that he would do his best and that he did not think that it would be hard to do. He did my root canal no problem. I would recommend him to anyone. He was nice, got me in right away, the price was on par with others, he kept checking to make sure I was not in pain, and I was done within an hour. read more

I recently was diagnosed with an abcess from a previously performed root canal a little over two years ago by another endodontist in the Cambridge area. I have had other work done by this Cambridge dentist with no problem. However, this time, I'm told a canal was missed which resulted in an absess. I went to Dr. Mani (as he is called due to his somewhat complicated last name.) I was very anxious prior to the procedure and he took all the time necessary to clearly resolve my issues before proceeding. He does what one would hope for in a calm professional way. I did not feel or sense any rudeness. He was extremely attentive when I experienced swelling later from the procedure, returning all calls and even checking in (the swelling is not all that surprising when you consider this was a second invasion of this tooth and I understand that there is some variance as to the best technique for cleaning the canals). He reassured me as well as I might have expected and completed the procedure, showing me the xrays of his work. Perhaps some other doctors are more of a hand holding type, but all I want when I'm in that situation is for someone to work as calmly and skillfully as is possible and answer any questions or concerns I may have. I had a root canal performed by Dr. MoulazadehI a few years ago and everything went just fine so when my dentist referred me to him again I went without hesitation. His staff kept confusing the times and changed the appointment time several times during the initial scheduling phone call then called me up and changed the time within 5 minutes after confirming the appointment. On my way to the appointment his assistant called and asked if I could come in early, as I was already on my way it was a little foolish but what made it more bizarre is after I arrived I had to wait almost 1/2 an hour. I appreciate in medical settings emergencies can arise but in light of the phone call I received on my way to his office it was a little strange but it gets better. During the procedure he was informing his assistant that the x-ray she took was not good and his assistant actually blamed me. I'm laying in a chair numbed to the gills and somehow the x-ray she took was my fault. Laughable right. During the procedure I had to stop the Dr. several times and ask for suction as I was choking on my own saliva. His assistant was totally oblivious. Also during the procedure I experienced intense pain. The Dr. attributed this to bleach passing the apex of my tooth and spreading to the surrounding gums and tissue. Again okay, things can happen. After I was done I went to make my copay and I was informed that they didn't take Amex, I had nothing else on me so I said I'd mail him a payment as I had paid promptly last visit he said that was fine. Less then a day and 1/2 later I had a message from his office staff saying they didn't receive payment yet. Better still, they had the wrong date of service and the wrong amount. If I had put a check in the mail the second I left the office it would not have had a chance to get to his office yet as I had left his office after 4 o'clock, not to mention with the pain I was in that was the last thing on my mind. I called them back and she denied saying all that, when I said I still had the voice mail and she did say all those things she made lame and completely stupid excuses. Did I forget to mention that when I was waiting that 1/2 hour this same woman was bad mouthing the USA and I could tell she was not born here from her accent. I don't understand why someone that's not an American is so unhappy with this country they don't go back to where ever they came from. So back to the Dr., two days after the procedure I developed a bad sinus cavity infection. Not only did the Dr. not provide a script in case this happened he didn't even mention the possibility that it could happen and to watch for it. He must have had a hot date and been in a hurry because it was late Friday afternoon and by the time I left the office he was in street clothes. I had to go to my primary care doctor for antibiotics. My recommendation is that if you're in the Boston area and need a root canal save yourself a lot of pain and frustration and have it done somewhere else and by someone else. read more
