The father or one of the sons is always at the counter with a pleasant smile and chit chat. I try to support small business as much as possible, and this one I find well deserving of my patronage. With a busstop right outside it's a handy place to buy bus tickets, especially given that the 333 is pre-paid only. They stock ciggies, icecreams, cold drinks, newspapers etc- all your usual corner store fare with the added benefit of fast, cheap internet with lovely big monitors, and a bulletin board for local sales/rooms to rent etc.

But unlike most convenience stores where the clerks are surly and hard to communicate with, York X'Press employs the best staff. The lady that works there is always ready to chat and eager to help. It's a huge contrast to many convenience stores in Sydney. Though you wouldn't come here for the great décor, you'll definitely come back because of their great service. You wouldn't know how helpful a few nice words are in a day until you've talked to the lady there and you come out smiling. Definitely a place I'd recommend.

This is a densely packed store with lots of tinned, packaged and frozen goods. It's a curious mix of essentials and luxury products like Maggie Beer Elderflower Ice-Cream. Yum! Fresh food comes in the form of bread or milk, so best pop to the Greengrocer a few shops down if you want something living. They have the occasional English chocolate bar in, so worth keeping an eye out if you're a Double Decker or Wispa fan. The chap who owns it is friendly. He's a friendly grocer though not so friendly as to have a listed phone number. Go in and see him instead.

This small new Woolies has taken over the old CommBank site, filling it with aisles of snacks, convenience foods and ready-to-eat goods. I don't think I've seen anything like it - not as big or well stocked as a supermarket, not as exxy and poorly stocked as a convenience store, it's perfect for busy workers rushing to or from work and in need of a grab-and-go meal. There's even a cafe onsite selling the cheapest coffee and cakes in Surry - $3 brownies, say whaaaaat? I'm yet to try the coffee here yet but boy has it been handy when I've been running to/from Central and needed to pick up a bag of washed spinach, a tub of yoghurt, a pack of bikkies or a bit of fresh fruit. It opens til late, heck it may even be open 24/7* - say whaaaaat? *don't quote me on that #wishfulthinking, but I'll check next time I swing by
