The sweet Oriental lady behind the counter is so friendly, my girlfriend and I comment on it after we exit. She's very happy for us to be heading to the beach on such and beautiful day. Clearly her manner has an impact, because we find ourselves in there for ages gradually accruing all manner of junk/ drinks/ trashy reading material.... all the crucial ingredients required for an afternoon of sunbaking at Clovelly beach... including obligatory mixed lollies, of course. All the bare essentials you'd expect in a corner shop, and a refreshing change from the supermarket. No crowds here. Just one man patiently waiting for us to finalise our mounting pile of goodies. I sound a little narcissistic, but whatever! I like Junction Newscafe because the staff are friendly and helpful, without crowding me. There's a fine line between attentive, and bothersome, after all! And they toe it perfectly. I had a coffee and a sausage roll, which was nothing short of delightful. Junction Newscafe also sells a bunch of magazines (no porn that I could see though, thank heavens) so you can have a bit of a read while you eat and watch the rest of Bondi Junction go by.

But unlike most convenience stores where the clerks are surly and hard to communicate with, York X'Press employs the best staff. The lady that works there is always ready to chat and eager to help. It's a huge contrast to many convenience stores in Sydney. Though you wouldn't come here for the great décor, you'll definitely come back because of their great service. You wouldn't know how helpful a few nice words are in a day until you've talked to the lady there and you come out smiling. Definitely a place I'd recommend.
