Home Grown Indiana, which appears connected to the same named shop in Noblesville and the recently departed Circle Centre location, has opened up on the second level of the mall between Sunglass Hut and Aroma 360. In a sea of premium, national chain vendors, Home Grown Indiana is a rather quaint, locally owned shop focusing on Indiana-themed gifts and wares by Indiana artists. The best entrance to use for easy access is The Cheesecake Factory/Starbucks entrance, though I typically go in through the restaurant gallery and that worked just fine. Home Grown Indiana is open mall hours. The employee, whom I believe was the owner, was friendly and helpful. You could definitely get a sense that they were brand new, though I didn't know that for fact during my visit. Items include things like bath bombs, candles, clothing, artwork, magnets, and more. Nearly everything I saw had an Indiana theme to it including the Indiana-shaped refrigerator magnet with butterflies that I simply had to get. Those of you who know me, know that I started a refrigerator magnet collection during my cancer journey - this was a great addition to my collection. The magnet was only $6.99. They definitely have a wide price range, though I had no issue finding simple, reasonably priced goods alongside the pricier art works. Shop decor was simple, well organized, and I could get around the shop in a wheelchair quite easily. This shop is definitely not as "premium" as the Noblesville spot, though I'd imagine it'll pick up as they settle in and get discovered. I can't quite justify a 5-star experience here, however, I can easily go 4-stars with a welcoming spirit and a strong local flavor that is definitely needed at this mall. Circle Centre's loss is Fashion Mall's gain. I'd venture up to the second floor and give them a visit.

During the seasonal gallery walk in Carmel's Arts and Design District, we stopped in to take a closer look. There are many paintings here that I just love, especially a Fall scene that looks like a photograph if you squint your eyes ever so slightly while gazing at it. Our other favorites include a range of floral paintings rendered in bright and deep hues that are simply breathtaking. I would provide the artists' names in this review, but I cannot pull them from memory and a trip to the gallery Web site did not prove helpful at all - for a gallery with the inventory this place has, the site is disappointingly sparse in terms of digital images. Speaking of inventory, I did think Art & Soul was something of a sensory overload - at least for the eyes - as its works are kind of crowded together. Now, I am not a professional and have no gallery experience to fall back on, but I do appreciate the airy layout of Evan Lurie much better. I find it tough to truly enjoy one painting I may be attracted to when another is creeping in and imposing itself from the periphery. Also, we were not greeted in this store, either. We wanted to know more about the prices of the above-mentioned paintings, but we didn't want to interrupt the staff member's noshing. Weird, going on a gallery walk and not being approached or spoken to kind of feels like more of a trip to the art MUSEUM.

Perhaps when I left my job in Anderson I forgot to review this gem in the process. I have only been here on two types of circumstances. One was an exhibit regarding the White River that the owner invited me to. The other type was for painting classes, of which I went there plenty of times. They did it specially for my work and I would say I went there four or five times for that. At least. Like a drink and draw, but without the alcohol. The instructor they had teaching - a school art teacher - was frazzled the first time my work went as we didn't exactly stick to the game plan, but all sort of drew derivations of what she had planned. However, as she got to know us and understood us, she warmed up. She also ensured that the variety of paintings she taught us were exactly that: a variety. Many different types of styles including some whimsical and kid like ones. Everything from birch trees, to summer fields of flowers, to concentric circles, to whimsical owls and birds. Eliot who owns the place is a pretty rad guy as well. Always good to talk music too (though it did get me into trouble with my work via a coworker). But hey if I finally find someone who knows who actually knows who all is referenced in the song Emmylou, who the Decemberists are, and has also seen Bob Dylan and the like in concert? I chose Mr muffin as my dealer and spent thousands of dollars in less than a year for stock items and pre-orders. This last Christmas my family bought 2 items for myself and my son that I was not aware of that were also on my Mr. Muffin pre-order list. This pre-order list of multiple items also amounted to thousands of dollars. I called just to ASK (ASK only) if I canceled those 2 pre-orders (out 6 more that were already placed), would that ruin our business relationship in the future. I told the receptionist that I did not want to have that loss of a relationship to occur and would accept and pay for the duplicate pre-order if that were the case. The receptionist canceled the pre-order without indicating at all that there would be a problem for future orders. In fact, we discussed the delivery dates of the remaining 2 items on the order that I still wanted. Weeks later, I went online and noticed that all of my pre-orders were canceled. I called the company to ask if Lionel had stopped production or what had caused the cancelation to the receptionist. I was transferred to the owner. I explained the situation. His response was that is not how the situation was explained to him and told me to find another dealer or supplier of Lionel trains. This really took the wind out of my sails for the hobby and soured me. I was working with my disabled wheelchair bound son who has muscular dystrophy to get into the hobby. All he can do is play video games and I figured that this would be a good way to work together as a common interest other than videos. It was something he could still control by hand. He loves Star Wars and I had pre-ordered Star Wars Phantom locomotives which now 1 of the 2 locomotives are unavailable due to the pre-order the company's cancelation. They did not bother to notify me in anyway and special run had sold out. I've gotten over it. It's not hearts and lungs. I moved on to other dealers as Steve strongly suggested that we do before he hung up. Since then, I read some online posts. Most were similar experiences. No problem as long as there is not a problem. When there is a problem...good luck. If I had to make an analogy: Remember the Seinfeld episode "Soup Nazi". Need I say more? From my viewpoint, don't count on service beyond the sale! Be especially careful if you pre-order. The rights that are reserved for Mr. Muffin to cancel your orders state that he can do that if there are unreasonable cancelations on your part. In reality, that means a FIRST or ANY cancelation as opposed to an true abuse of their pre-ordering system. Watch out for hidden tariff charges and taxes. These charges are not transparent and not upfront. You will charged those at the time of shipping with NO estimate. I realize that this is not totally under their control. However, if you don't like the charges, you will be banished. If you even, ask you will be banished. BE CAREFUL to you newcomers. The hobby is still worth it and so are many other dealers who are decent businessmen and hobbyists.
