We have been professional in our attention to seeking an adequate representation of their menu before posting a review = once we tried it, we are hooked borderline addicted and have spent $100's of tasty dollars here in under a month. Of the four soups we like asparagus cheese best and chicken tortilla least. I LOVE the Debra. I little pizza that I never imagined I would come to eat on a regular basis. Anything dough... Is excellent. You can order a large sandwhich roll extra for $1. Now we can't go without getting a couple of those to go. Toasted later with butter and honey. Yum !! Honestly I routinely eat "artisanal" ready fancy, fresh, expensive as a part of my CSA ... And this newts bread is the best bread I've had in years. Decades? AND THE PIZZA CRUST. zomg. But. I really don't like the set up. The menu is off To the side of where you order. If you are not (yet) a regular .... The best thing I've had is their chicken Alfredo pizza ... Accept I wanted with shrimp and not chicken ...which you can do all nice and easy button push on phone to pick up. Rancid food and rancid wine. Wife got terribly sick after eating here and having glass of wine. Spoke to manager, he said they don't sell that much wine so could be the reason. Maybe rancid.........Terrible management customer relations skills and improper way to help resolve customer concerns "which they did not " after going in to speak with them. I tried Newk's with my husband and my friends. I had a different experience from the other reviewer. There were good and bad things about the restaurant. We went Friday evening at 6:30pm. I ordered mac and cheese, but was informed they were out of it, so ordered a combo instead - - half a "Simply salad," and half of a turkey sandwich. The salad was supposed to have balsamic vinaigrette dressing, but I couldn't taste it. Most of the salad was extremely dry. My husband ordered the same salad, said his also was too dry, so he got up and put oil and vinegar on his. The cucumber slices were not fresh. Were soft and slimy as if cut a long time ago and stored in a too cold refrigerator. The salad also had grape tomatoes, various greens, grated cheddar cheese, croutons and one tiny round slice of a carrot. I only got the one piece of carrot. My husband didn't get any carrot. My half of a turkey sandwich wasn't what I expected. But maybe I expected too much. It was okay. Could have been better. The turkey meat tasted like processed sandwich meat. Guess I was hoping it would be fresh turkey. I couldn't see the turkey until I removed the sandwich top. I saw cheese and at first thought they forgot the turkey. The piece didn't even cover the inside of the roll. It was about half the size of the roll. Maybe they ran out of turkey and that's why it was such a small piece. But they should have told me, so that I could have ordered something else. Nothing was special about the food. Nothing to draw me back to Newk's. My husband and friends got the Italian sandwich and thought it was okay. Said they got enough meat. One friend liked his Greek salad and tomato soup. The serving staff was very friendly and didn't rush anyone to leave. But the food did not impress me. They must have been running out of food and since there are other places nearby with soups, salads, pizza and sandwiches, we might not go back to Newk's to give it a second chance. read more

Excellent food, went with my family on a Saturday afternoon. We tried two different sandwiches, two different salads, the mac and cheese, and the mushroom bisque. Uniformly wonderful. The best condiment/topping bar l've ever seen. Very prompt service.My parents both have special diets, and found delicious meals that fit their needs. The food was good; however, the restaurant in Gambrills, MD which provides a plastic cup to every patron who asks for a drink - does not recycle. This is the opposite of a green company for sure. I was told that it's because of the landlord. They don't recycle anything and it all goes in the garbage. Maybe if enough people explain that good food is nice but thousands of plastic cups a month in a landfill is unacceptable - then they will do something about it. Eating out is expensive and if I am going to spend the money - it will be on good food and responsible establishment owners. The service: ok: my particular cashier (whom I told that it was my first time in the restaurant) didn't say hello or explain anything and seemed slightly agitated. The food: I had a half sandwich and Mac and cheese. The sandwich was the steak. Imagine a quarter of a steak and cheese sandwich - not filling but tasty. The mac & cheese was yummy though. Very cheesy and hot. It's an order at the register sit down and wait place. If you need a mayonnaise then good luck. It's not at a condiment bar and you have to catch a server delivering food to ask for something. You don't have a waitress. Once again, a little expensive to do laps to get a mayonnaise or to tell someone that they forgot the chips. The place was nearly empty at 11 but by 12 it was packed. If you go: do it at 11, get the Mac & cheese and take your cup home. But make sure to ask about recycling and write a review that encourages responsible restaurant ownership. read more

Newk's has become a must stop location for lunch for my coworkers and I if we are in the area. I work with a strict vegan and the staff at Newk's has always been more than accommodating to his requests and needs and they've gotten his order perfect every time, which is something that doesn't happen very often. As far as the food goes I love all their soups and my favorite meal is the Newk's favorite salad. Always a very pleasurable experience with a wonderful staff and excellent food! read more

I've been there 2 times in the past month. I think the cleanliness has gone downhill. They've been fairly busy when I've been there recently, but even with the patio opened, the seating is limited because there are so many tables are not cleaned. The roundtable with the condiments and fixings in the front has continued to be messy. Lately the drink area has been pretty messy too. But cleanliness is my major pet-peeve about restaurants. The music has been awfully loud lately too. I think they might set the volume for the music to match the outdoor noises on the patio and don't realize that when setting it that loud then it's even louder inside. When you have to say "huh" to somebody sitting across from you because the music is too loud, then that's a problem. Food is always good. I much prefer this food over the grilled cheese company or grotto. But, I think in the future I might have to take it to go. read more

Over the weekend a very dear friend's husband passed away unexpectedly. Sunday afternoon I was searching online for an establishment to a small catering package to my friend's home to ensure she didn't have to worry about making food. While it was too late for same day delivery, Newk's was the only option available that was appealing for what I had in mind and could deliver early the next morning. I placed my order online and they were able to deliver it at 10:30 am. The package included a platter with a variety of delicious sandwiches, sides of fruit, pasta salad, side salad, as well as a huge container of their specialty salad and a platter of desserts. It was much more than I expected and my friend was beside herself with appreciation when it was delivered. She's eating and has something to offer visitors, without worry. I ordered a salad for lunch and my coworker picked up our food. There were no croutons on the salad, not even any on the side. I paid an extra 6 dollars for shrimp to be added and there were like 3 pieces on the whole salad. And they didn't close one of the containers all the way and there was honey mustard spilled in the bag! For a salad over 10 dollars I expected a little bit better. So I have been here multiple times as I believe everyone deserves a second chance. Our of the times I have been here there was a hair in my daughters pizza the first time. They went and made her a new one by then she had lost her appetite. Who could blame her. The next few times we got the Newks Q which is very good and we had no problems with that. Today we came in and ordered a black and blue salad and a kids pizza and the mac n cheese. All were good until we got to one curtin which had a grey hair in it. Keep in mind I am young and have no gray hair. I brought the said cruton to the manager and said please tell me you see what I see. He said I see something, and kind of blew me off as to what I was saying. Then I said excuse me. He then told another worker please grab her fresh crutons from the back. I said don't worry about it we are leaving I don't want to eat here anymore. I understand things like this can happen. They can happen even in our own homes. However, if a customer brings this to your business's attention you should be sure to pay attention to them and not dismiss them. That is a sanitary issue. OMG! Salad is suppose to taste like greens not oil and vinaigrette, PLEASE go easy on the dressing! the whole thing tasted like crunching on oil! Here is a suggestion: maybe ask customers how much dressing they want. Light, medium, heavy? That could actually save you money because you're not wasting products. Hint I didn't ask for salad to be remade so it's not wasting "your" money! I know there are some people who get salad just for the dressing because the don't like greens but not everybody. Newk's is really as good as it gets in the fast casual category. I first discovered it in Jackson, MS, of all places, and was shocked to see one this far north (it appears to be their only one this far north). I've tried a variety of items across the menu and don't remember ever having anything I didn't like. The spicy shrimp pizza, shrimp po' boy, chicken pesto sandwich, steak salad, and chili are all solid bets. Will not order from here again. Knew I wouldn't have time to stop and eat during my lunch hour so I ordered online and picked up my order to eat later. Three hours later when I finally get to eat lunch, I find that they completely messed up my order. Not having time to go back, i am stuck with a wrong order, part of which I can't even eat because of stomach issues with certain foods. Very much a fan of this place. This is the only location that I am aware of my I will not hesitate to visit another one whenever I come across one. First of all they serve one of my most favorite things in the entire world MAC N CHEESE!!! It is delicious! But recently I have been having the soup and salad. Love the freshness of the salads but if you don't like a lot of dressing I would tell them to give you dressing on the side. But my favorite is the Chicken Noodle Soup. I love it so much. i's so hearty you aren't fishing for chicken or noddles. The noodles are more like a dumpling texture which I love. So full of flavor I cannot get enough of it. The only thing I would change is the drink selection. I think the could have more of a variety they have like 3 soda dispensers dedicated to Diet Coke. I always choose the tea since I don't care for any of the soda options. But that did not stop me from giving this place 5 stars! read more

I gave 4 stars because the only complaint I have is the small amount of chicken they put on my salad is not equivalent to the additional charge. i am boycotting Newks. There food is great, they added beer and wine and the staff is fantastic. My problem is that the are ridiculous and their management needs to be fired. I went in the other day and when i went to add the tip to my check, the tip line was crossed off. I asked why and they said that a patron had complained that they did not understand why when they wrote their tip in it did not go solely to the register employee. So, i was told that the patron made such a big deal that they changed their policy. the employee also told me that their policy was to pool the tip for a year and have a great family party with gifts at the holidays. First of all, how stupid is it that just because someone rings up a customer they would get all of the tip when so many other hard workers do such a great job. Second, why would the management act so irresponsibly because one person complains. So, my family will never, ever cross the plain of that store. read more

The service has always been friendly and helpful and delivered in a natural manner and not a "cookie cuter" or "trained" manner. I love the Italian Sub from Newk's. Everyone who I have dined with here has always been happy with their selection. The covered outdoor dining area is nice and I love the fact they have a sink outside the restrooms to clean up prior to eating. I wish more places offered this. The booths are large and comfy offering a nice setting for a lunch meeting, that doesn't require to much privacy. read more

This was our first trip to Newk's. Saturday around 12:30PM we entered the restaurant and quickly realized that this wasn't a server/hostess driven eatery. The menu is on the right wall is large, easy to read and the soups of the day are easily seen. Although if the restaurant is crowded, it will be hard to read. I had the Turkey Breast, hubby had the Italian. Note to those who do not like mayonaise driven spreads - ask for yours on the side. We both had the coleslaw with our sandwiches. It was ok, however, I would have preferred to have had chips instead. Hubby did not care for the spicy creole mustard and he's a "mustard on the sandwich" kinda guy. We liked the 'add-ons' of bread-n-butter pickle slices, jalapenos, and there were croutons, cheese, etc. to add to pizza or salads. I just left the restaurant & I go there often and have had nothing but great service from everyone there. But today I observed the manager Norman aggressively harassing one of the new employees. It looked like she had just come in for her shift and was asking where she should work. I've dealt with her at the register in the past & she was very kind & professional. She was rolling up silverware when she answered one of her coworkers questions & Norman abruptly told her that since he can't quit talking that she should just go home. The poor girl had to call for her ride & left crying. This was was the most inconsiderate unprofessional event I've ever seen. I've managed a restaurant in the past & the behavior of this manager is deplorable. You hire young new employees & they are willing to learn & work hard, but you dish out your "bad day" to them is unfair.
