I had such an amazing time with my daughter here. The open skate during weekdays is amazing because…read morethe rink isn't too full. You can practice those elaborate spins to mastery. Or someone like me that was a bit rusty can feel comfortable going around the rink at their own pace. I didn't go to snack bar- I was too focused on skating. I will tell you to size down one size if you rent skates as they do run big. My one complaint is they don't resurface the ice as frequently as the ice rink I've visited in NY. The staff was very kind and shared excitement with me that my daughter's birthday was approaching in a few weeks. This can definitely become a regular family adventure despite it being about 20 miles from home. And it's affordable!

I had a very unfortunate experience with Rink Manager Peter Montesano, during which he was rude and…read moreunhelpful in every way, and especially on the subject of a simple miscommunication which he helped escalate rather than resolve. The LearnToSkate program is from 9:15-11:15, which overlaps with Adult Skate from 10:00-11:15. Peter tried to make me to pay twice for the Adult Skate program even though I was already enrolled in a program that included that session. He loudly accused me in front of the entire rink multiple times for not registering, even though I had. Then, when I asked a clarification question about skating policy, he laughed at me and was extremely condescending. I felt like I was being targeted because I was a minority there. During my experience with him, instead of being patient and understanding, he was confrontational and extremely unprofessional, purposefully trying to publicly humiliate those unfamiliar with rink policies. I am very disappointed about my experience and hope I never have a run-in like that again. The rest of the staff is great, however, and helped resolve the issue right away.

I have been wanting to go ice skating for ages and was so thrilled when a friend of mine told be…read moreabout the open skate hours at Champions Skating Center!! The facility is spacious and conveniently located--not too far off the main road and is very close to both 91 and 9. The rink itself is well-maintained and wasn't too crowded, even on a Saturday afternoon. I wasn't a huge fan of the buckle (?) skates they handed to me initially, but halfway through the open skate session, I traded them in for lace-up ones which were way better. An hour was plenty for our group, and at $10 for both admission and rental, was a great value! They do also have a longer open skate session at a slightly higher cost. I'd consult the website for the most up-to-date info regarding hours and pricing. Overall, I enjoyed my experience and will be sure to return for future group gatherings!

I'll estimate I've played at 75% of the public hockey facilities in the state of Connecticut. This…read moreone strikes me as certainly not the best, but certainly not the worst. Few facilities have a true Olympic-sized rink - this one does. But there's a problem... the boards aren't straight. They lean away from the ice. I think the Outback Steakhouse "Bloomin' Onion" is the most appropriate analogy here. Locker rooms are kinda gross, and a tad small. But they always have great skate sharpeners at the pro shop, and that counts for a lot. Hockey's a filthy game anyway, so I'll gladly take that trade any day of the week.

That was in 2021. I returned another time and parents were just throwing their kids in the rink to tire them out because they didn't want to deal with them. The rink is old and dated and has been for years. Don't expect it to change. Like all other dates rinks, the food is overpriced chuck e cheese slop. It feels like when I was in middle and high schooI. I suggest eating before coming here. I also recommend buying your own skates as rentals are not only gross but not safe. Put that $5 back in your pocket. The music is like top 40 stuff and some old school music for the old and experienced folks. I skated on and off from middle school to summer camps and church groups. Pushing 40 and out of shape but I regained confidence. Sometimes it's not the rink itself, it's the people. It was a very chill Sunday that wasn't too crowded. if you're nostalgic or you just want a good workout, it's good. But if you're expecting a modern 2025 skating rink with today's music and gen z'ers and alphas, it's not gonna happen.

This place is truly a rip off and they don't even invest their money well because it looks like a war zone location from the outside. It has probably never been updated from whenever they first opened decades ago. Miserable place.
