The staff was very kind and shared excitement with me that my daughter's birthday was approaching in a few weeks. This can definitely become a regular family adventure despite it being about 20 miles from home. And it's affordable!

The LearnToSkate program is from 9:15-11:15, which overlaps with Adult Skate from 10:00-11:15. Peter tried to make me to pay twice for the Adult Skate program even though I was already enrolled in a program that included that session. He loudly accused me in front of the entire rink multiple times for not registering, even though I had. Then, when I asked a clarification question about skating policy, he laughed at me and was extremely condescending. I felt like I was being targeted because I was a minority there. During my experience with him, instead of being patient and understanding, he was confrontational and extremely unprofessional, purposefully trying to publicly humiliate those unfamiliar with rink policies. I am very disappointed about my experience and hope I never have a run-in like that again. The rest of the staff is great, however, and helped resolve the issue right away.

Try to overlook the patched sidewalk and tired interior and focus on the beautiful aqua water and friendly staff. This club features Silver sneakers classes and is a good gym for seniors. My hope is that with increased membership, the new managers will spruce the place up.

We were lucky enough to get second row seats but part of being so far forward was the disadvantage of an obstructed view of some of the far-side of the rink. It would be nice if they got a Jumbotron so you could see instant replays of the goals. Overall, pretty solid rink for a small school. I guess I am used to bigger stadiums such as Michigan Yost arena.

This was my first time, I came so unprepared and my feet and hands were cramping of the cold by the end of it all. Nonetheless, we had a great time. Few hours every Sunday afternoon are scheduled for public skating (look up calendar)... was quite reasonably priced @ $10 (including skate rentals) for 1.5hrs. A good winter activity for kids to burn all that energy. They have milk crates to lean on for beginners which I relied on heavily else I'm quite certain I'd break a hip. Gladly it wasn't too crowded. What fun! we'll be back next week and I'll surely sign up for lessons next year.

It all comes down to how you make ice. Leave it to a well-funded private university to provide such an exceptional product. It's some of the best ice in the state. Credit the brand new Zamboni, as well as those who know how to use it. Even the pegs they use to keep the nets on are more intelligently designed, and do a better job of anchoring 100 pounds of wrought iron to a freshly cut surface. Not like any of this makes me a better hockey player... The Freeman also includes a natatorium, a basketball court, and a big indoor astroturf facility for track, football, lacrosse, soccer, etc. All the venues are cleverly mashed together into a single sports megaplex. The plaque reads "1990," which makes me me think, "Hey, this place is really new!" Then I realize that was nearly a quarter century ago... I'm aging.

The ice here is a joke (the water takes forever to freeze after the Zamboni does its pass -…read moreprobably because their compressors don't work properly or they're not running them at the correct power), the area near the Zamboni doors on both rinks is low and dangerous for skaters as their blades can get stuck in the rut, the bathrooms are terrible, and the stands are dirty. What can you expect when Black Bear owns the rink as they're certainly not going to invest what's necessary to make it safe for those that use the ice.

They have a pro shop and good sized snack area that serves more than just items from the deep freeze to the deep fryer. The red rink was pretty warm as I found myself more comfortable in short sleeves as I watched from the boards near the entrance. The white rink was definitely more chilly, but the restroom there appear newer and cleaner since it did not have the horrible foam that protects the skates but incubates the smells of "eau de rinque." It is located in an industrial park off the main drag. Turn in a the "Honeywell" and go to the end the road on the right.
