The main house was built in 1929 of grey stone, and currently has 11 bedrooms, and several bathrooms. There is also a 3 bedroom, 2 bath cottage with small kitchen. The house is set on 6 acres, and next to a golf course and a nature walk - 5 miles of coastline, varying between white cliffs and pebble beaches. Night time is dominated by stars and bunnies. Yes, bunnies. The house staff are friendly, and mostly invisible (in a good way). The vegetarian fare (it was a yoga retreat we were one) was tasty and filling. I would definitely recommend it as a retreat venue.

This invlolves a treat and a food mat so I assume pets are allowed. With all bedrooms coming with en suite bathroom facilities and laundry service for those staying longer why not make a week of it? AA rated 3 stars but I feel the services laid on are better here than in some 4 stars and the attention to detail makes you feel more at home.

I like to go to the seaside in winter, that's just the kind of girl I am. Not one for amusement…read morearcades, candy floss, rides or paddling, I'm into bleached skies, churning water and tourist-free beaches - but I can only be completely happy if I also have a warm, cosy place to return to after being buffeted along the seafront. My recent three night stay at The Avalon was just perfect for that. The location is great - less than 5 minutes walk to the beach in Kemp Town, right near lots of shops and restaurants and within a short walk to the centre of Brighton. Walking from the train station took less than half an hour, and my favourite coffee shop ever, Redroaster (http://www.qype.co.uk/place/123197-Redroaster-Coffee-House-Brighton) , is moments away. Mmmm, hot chocolate! Owners Brian and Tom made us all feel very welcome, especially Benji the dog who had a fuss made of him every morning in the breakfast room. Speaking of which, the hearty breakfasts set us up very nicely for days of wandering around town, and help was on hand to tell us about good countryside walks for Benji complete with maps and bus times. It was lovely to be so well looked after, it's just a shame we didn't have time to go everywhere we wanted. Having a really nice room to hang out in meant we didn't feel like we needed to be out and about all the time, and I can highly recommend the four poster room with its super comfy bed and sofa, perfect for reclining on and watching a movie (a DVD library in the breakfast room helped with this also). Free wifi was the icing on a very nice cake, and I'm sure we'll be going back to the Avalon very soon.

Our room had a small balcony with a view of the garden. Their "large shower room" does indeed contain an impressively large shower. The glassed-in breakfast room (also with a view of the garden) is gorgeous, and the breakfast itself quite generous. We were in Chichester for a wedding and had a bit of spare time, and the hosts suggested a historic walking tour, which turned out to be fascinating. In all, a memorable experience.

With the new menu we thought we'd give them another chance and glad we did! We had a roast yesterday and it was delicious - lots of vegetables, loads of meat and a nice option for my vegetarian husband. We shared a pudding (brownie and honeycombe ice cream) and it was one of the nicest things ever! I wanted another one immediately but controlled myself :) Lovely staff and good table service. I'd…read morerecommend anyone traveling to Brighton for a wedding or long weekend to see if there's availability here as the surroundings are so much nicer than the City. You can get to Brighton in 10 minutes to enjoy all the hustle and bustle easily enough on the bus. Its located right at the foot of the South Downs so perfect if you like a nice, brisk walk in the countryside. There's also the famous Jack and Jill windmills nearby too. The rooms are of an excellent standard and are really reasonable starting at £50!

At arrival we were asked what time we wanted to come for breakfast, and they took our order so we didn't have to worry about it in the morning. The only negative thing was that sleeping in the front room we could hear the music from a nearby club until 1am in the morning, and a lot of talking drunk heads later on. It might be different if you sleep in one of the back rooms.
