Well, thanks to the donations of two clients of the Hogan Sports Center who defrayed the cost of renovations, the Hogan Sports Center gym is now brand new, with new equipment, new machines, new weights, and a totally new outlook. In addition, the student athletes who frequently were trying to do their team workouts while half the town was at the weight room, they now have their own varsity gym, located in what was one of the racketball courts downstairs, where they can drop weights without shaking the building. The staff is absolutely awesome. The offerings are also amazing, olympic size pool, yoga, Peloton, indoor running track, you name it. One totally complete facility.

The instructor is so inspiring and fun. I can already see an improvement in flexibility and it's only been a couple of weeks! I'm losing weight and the whole experience is such a joy. 10 stars for the great man this pool is named for…read more Daniel R. Healy, 36, was the brave Navy SEAL who died while on a rescue mission in Afghanistan. His bravery was recounted in the movie Lone Survivor. A native of Exeter, this pool was dedicated in his name. This slightly dated, 1960s era outdoor pool is great for singles, seniors and families. With shaded patio tables under big umbrellas, poolside also has a charming outdoor shower to rinse off after a swim and where littles can safely play in the cool spray on hot summer days. They offer swim lessons but not this year following the pandemic. The Healy pool has a not-quite Olympic-length pool for lap swims (dedicated lap swim hours M-W-F 8-9 am) with an L-shaped extension complete with fun slides where many of the kids splash.. There are at least two lifeguards on duty at all times but signs advise parents to supervise their children. They give color wrist bands to all swimmers after lifeguards test you can safely swim in the deep end. It's an outdoor pool so it's open mid-June through August, weather permitting. Oddly, the pool closes if there aren't enough swimmers. It seems wise to call first before driving over. Plenty of free parking available in the private lot.

If you are passing through town a day pass is only $10 (as low as it gets for day passes) and a month with no annoying contract very reasonably $40. There is also Wifi, a complete and quite spacious weight room, racquetball (totally sweet), and a converted basketball/racquetball court as well. The cardio room has large TVs for those who like to run treadmills for a long time.

Nice little beach at the south end of Newfound Lake…read more This beach is maybe 500 yards long, and anywhere from 2 to 20 feet wide. It's got nice white sand, especially for a fresh water lake. There are parallel parking spots along the left side of (one way) Shore Drive. No bathrooms or lifeguard, but it's free - unlike the state park at the north end. There is one decent restaurant across the street, named The Big Catch, and they do have bathrooms. The water is crystal clear, as Newfound is one of the ten cleanest bodies of fresh water in the world. And you can't beat the views of the mountains.
