After receiving our deposit, the company significantly increased the price of the project to an amount we could no longer afford. We tried to discuss the situation in person at their office, hoping to find a solution, but instead we were treated disrespectfully. The owner raised his voice, yelled at us, and made the situation even more stressful. The document we signed was not a formal construction contract, yet we were left without our deposit and without the project moving forward. We filed a complaint with the Maryland Home Improvement Commission (MHIC), but unfortunately we did not receive the help we expected. We also hired attorneys, which has only resulted in additional expenses while trying to resolve this matter. Our experience has been frustrating, financially draining, and extremely disappointing. I encourage anyone considering this company to carefully review all paperwork, make sure you have a detailed written contract, and fully understand the terms before paying a large deposit.

I hired Jim's company to replace all of the front windows on my 1886 row house in DC (see…read morebefore/after photos). This was a somewhat complicated project because the previous windows were the wrong size for the openings in the brick, which meant that in addition to replacing the windows all of the openings had to be resized (requiring demolishing and reconstructing the drywall and trim on the interior). Jim carefully planned the project, first doing some exploratory work before providing a complete estimate for the work. He secured the needed permits, which was pretty quick since he has a good relationship with the historic preservation office in DC. Jim's crews did an excellent job with every component of the project, from the window installation to the trim work on the interior to the drywall and painting work. They also created historically appropriate lunettes to install above the windows. The project involved a good amount of interior work, and the workers were always respectful of our home (covering everything and putting down material to protect the wood floors) and cleaned up at the end of each day. It made living through a construction project tolerable. Jim was responsive throughout the planning and execution of the project. I highly recommend working with him and he will definitely be my first call for future projects.

Tom came over and it was clear instantly that he had a great deal of experience and expertise, not only in cabinetry but in other aspects of home building. He inspected everything and explained thoroughly what was needed to make all the repairs. He gave us a very reasonable price. Tom was responsive to all my questions via email and text. They even did some extra work with cutting an HVAC toe kick ithat should have been put in the lower cabinets and covering up wires that needed covering. They made sure the cabinets were secure and level and opened and closed properly. They also did a great job securing and leveling the bathroom vanities. I really appreciated the detailed analysis of what needed to be done and what the cost would be to fix each of the problems. The installers, Todd and Connor, were friendly and professional and clearly had done this kind of work for years. This is not a company that hires inexperienced trainees and sends them out to projects. Clearly this Crew knew what they were doing.
