Very rude people work there. I asked for help locating some Staples and the guy was so unbelievably rude because I was interrupting his stalking the shelves. He even gave me the wrong aisle number it wasn't even remotely close. I told them that I wasn't coming back even if I needed to return the item and I would rather just eat the cost. It's not all that far to home Depot from Newberg and I can get the same service for way cheaper prices. Some of the people are helpful and nice in all fairness. It just needs to be consistent and I don't need the aggravation of my life. I wouldn't waste my money there. read more

The Neckster was a lifesaver! Went in last week after picking up a Uhaul truck down the street and needed to adjust the side mirrors manually with an Allen wrench. Of course we didn't have one luckily this store was located right down the road. It was quite overwhelming driving this huge 10 ft truck but not being able to see everything in sight on the only mirrors reliable in those trucks made it even more unnerving. Thankfully The Neckster (as his tag read) helped us out! He helped us look for the right wrench size (trust me they all looked the same in that pile and seemed like they would all fit)! I went in for one item and I was off to a great start when I was greeted right away by friendly workers. I did not ask for help locating my item because I was not in a hurry and I wanted to explore the store since this was my first visit. There were a lot of things that grabbed my attention everywhere I looked. They have your typical hardware needs, garden stuff and even clothing.... They have a fun selection for keys. At the back of the store I was looking at bird stuff and they kept constantly checking on me which got a little irritating but I understand they just want to be helpful and available. My prior review was of a horrible experience with one of the paint guys. I haven't seen him in a long time and assume he's gone. If so, good. The overall atmosphere of the store has increased since the change in management and whether that is because of said change, or a change in people, it is refreshing and I love it. Is the high level of customer service a "west coast" Ace thing? Or is it just this location? Was referred to Mark's location by a friend of his bc I was looking for a bbq grill. (Thanks, Boyd @ Natalies Estate). Not only did I find a great grill, but they assembled it and delivered it to my home. I'm not used to this level of service on the east coast, whatsoever. Had an issue with the first grill (Weber's fault), so had to coordinate with Angela, who was beyond helpful, on a resolution and coordinating an exchange. JT and Cody came back and ensured the 2nd one worked before they left the store and my home. Everyone at this location is super helpful and friendly, almost to the point where I feel like I'm being pranked, or I'm at Chick-fila or something... love this place! read more

Living in a small town it's great to have a good hardware store nearby. Ace seems to always have everything I need. The other thing about them is that when you walk in there's always an expert available to help. They really do know their stuff. I have been a long-term resident of Newberg. I have seen Newberg grow and grow overtime. One thing you could count on when walking into ace hardware, was a homey feeling in Gypsy Crossing boutique. Today when I walked in, it looked like TJ Maxx, or hobby lobby threw up, it was a sad sight to see. It was uninviting, it absolutely had no style and was disheartening to see something Newberg has love so much now more corporate. There were no tables set up to show different ways to style home furnishings, things were scattered, the beautiful tables Vicky had set up, were memorable, along with the chandeliers dangling with so many things, and it all gone. Hoping, whatever happened, or whatever the new owners have done, they need go back to the old Gypsy Crossing, the one that we all love. This was not a healthy change. read more

This review is for Lady's Night. A yearly local event hosted by the owners of Ace Hardware in Newberg. Our hosts for the evening are very generous and a big part of the Newberg community. The event, once inside, is centered around good friends, food, shopping and door prizes throughout the night. What more could a girl want!? Over 21, you are offered two glasses of local wine, our bites included and array of fresh fruit, deli meats, veggie trays, nut, chocolate. As the 3 hours progresses into the night, surprise snacks from the Traeger grill out back. From beef, pulled pork, meatballs and beans, even chocolate chip cookies. The owner of Newberg Music Center entertained us with his wonderful voice and songs most of us grew up with from the 60s and 70s. But this review starts before we even enter the event............... My friend, daughter and I arrived around 4:15 for the event that starts at 6pm. First 150 ladies get a goody bag. I would guesstimate we were the 50th in line when we got there. A lady that I know was in line behind us and told us she has come to the event several times. As we waited almost two hours, we start noticing that most of the ladies in front of us knew each other and throughout the almost two hours more of their friends showed up. They hugged, "Hi! Great to see you." "How are your?".........and to our surprise all these friends of theirs that showed up after we did, stayed up front which pushed all of us ladies waiting patiently for two hour further and further back. My friend told us that it would get worse in the next hour. The ladies around us were also getting upset about the situation as we all got pushed back in line. 5:45 the owner gave out the goody bag tickets to the first 150. . The numbers where hand written on the tickets so we knew where we stood. We were not 50 anymore!!!! .75, 76, 77 to 107, 108, 109. This wasn't about receiving a goody bag, it was the principle. My friend was furious and said she will never come again nor shop here anymore. Seriously this was terrible for those waiting 2 HOURS. We also had friends show up but they went to the end of the line. Sadly most of the ladies in front seemed to know the owners, who turned a blind eye. I do not think the process will change unless you can walk up to the door to get a ticket when you first arrive and then get in line. Most high school girls would have more respect for those already in line...plus they wouldn't have been drinking right out of the wine bottles nor their little flasks while greeting their newly arriving friends. I don't hand out 5 stars like it's halloween candy, you've gotta earn them, and Newberg Hardware has consistently met or exceeded my expectations for over 10 years. Sometimes I kid myself into thinking I should bypass this little hardware store and head straight for Home Depot. Think again, as these guys will usually have what you are looking for 95% of the time, and more importantly, they will help you find what you need and not send you on a giant goose chase. Also, these guys really know their hardware. Ask them any question, if they don't know it, one of the other guys will. When they don't have something I'm looking for, they will order it for you. Which is great, especially when the big box stores feel so cold. Ace feels warm, friendly, and is knowledgeable in most repair situations. I was just in the Ace hardware store in Newberg where supposedly the employees are required to wear masks. My husband walked back to the bathroom and saw the owner come out of his office with no mask. I saw at least three employees and one checker not wearing a mask or wearing it well below their nose only covering their mouth. This is unsafe and inconsistent with good policy. When I called to speak to the manager I was told that the owners were out even though my husband had clearly seen him. Oregon has 278 new cases this very day. read more

Recently I purchased a grill from another store which had a part issue that left me unable to complete the assembly of my grill. One of the reasons I bought at this time was because our son was home on leave from the military. It was going to take me 5-7 days to get the part from the manufacturer. Meanwhile I had decided to go with another brand and called Mark at Ace to see if they had the new grill in stock. Not only did Mark provide me with valuable feedback on this option but after realizing my situation he offered several options completely above and beyond his obligations. I was not a customer of his, I did not purchase from him, and yet he was offering parts from his stock and even offered sending his delivery truck with a model to borrow while I waited for my part had I been closer. This kind of customer service is rare. I live 40 miles from his store but I do pass through Newberg on occasion and I guarantee I'll have a list of things I need from the hardware store when I do so I can support his business. They are soooo helpful; I am often at places like Home Depot and I will be the first to admit that I am a woman and I need a ton of help in a hardware store. I need a man and I am not ashamed to admit it. When I go to Ace there are several friendly faces just waiting to help when I walk in. Maybe it's my dazed and confused look that prompts them to ask if I need help finding anything or maybe they simply are trained so well that they recognize immediately that I do not belong there. This is still my favorite store in Newberg. Today I went in for three very different things and they had all of them. Ben carefully figured out which battery I needed for my car key, installed it, and walked out to the parking lot to make sure it really worked. Afterwards, he knowledgeably helped me pick out specific paints for the job I have at home and mixed the colors to perfection. The checkers here are also always courteous and kind. When the shingles came off my roof during the last major wind storm (April, 2017), I was in a panic because I never knew how to replace them. I came to this store to get some advice, and the assistant was very knowledgeable about the process, even giving some advice on what she did to fix her roof. I was able to get all the tools (nails, flat bar, "Blackjack", etc.) easily as the store was well-stocked. Great experience and great advice are always given here at this store. read more

Bottom line: there's a genuine interest in helping me find the best and most inexpensive solution to my problem of the weekend. I love this place!!! I bought my first house in Newberg five years ago. I'm a single middle aged female with busy married male friends and with busy brothers who live out of state. I didn't observe a lot of home management activity growing up... got the picture? :) I cannot tell you how many times I've walked in there only to find their consistently helpful staff and say "Such and such has stopped working, I took this off of it, what do I do now?" and every single time they have gone above and beyond to help me. I buy everything I can there to support them. They have enough staff so that you rarely have to wait to get help on the floor and if you do it isn't more than a few minutes. And when they staff are with you they aren't rushing you or trying to get away. Exact opposite of big chains. They are fantastic, everyone from the floor staff to the cashier to the guy I suspect is the manager or owner. If the "younger" guys on the floor aren't sure of something they take me to the "older" guys around and ask questions and I can tell by the interaction there's a good working relationship there. It makes it a better experience for me. Go there and help keep them around! read more
