Went here the other day with my brother-in-law after a round of golf. It was right around lunchtime , but apparently we were both feeling like breakfast. Had the biscuits and gravy skillet, asked for well done hashbrowns with eggs a little runny. I think he had his eggs scrambled, I don't recall. Fantastic meal, service was great, as the lady running the cash register was the only one in there waiting on tables and running the cash register. She had a handful of people dining, but handled everything fantastically and we didn't have to wait too long. Glad we came here! Lovely little place in Newark for a light lunch. I ordered lunch to go. I got the special the tuna fish sandwich and a cup of cream of broccoli soup for $9. It was a good amount of food. Loved the soup. Everyone is so friendly. My aunt likes to stop here to get carryout every now and then. It is right off Rt 71 very convenient, and cheap prices. read more

The quintessential roadside country diner. Set in a town our 1000 friendly neighbors and no stop light this casual restaurant has a great menu and good food and a wonderful staff of ladies taking care of the diners. Basic burgers are good but so are the specials like pot roast or meatloaf. I enjoy the "hubcap" a breaded pork tenderloin that is twice the size of the amazing bun. The soups are always good. This is a family cafe run by some of the friendliest people you will find. The dining room is clean and comfortable. The wait staff and cooks are great and aim to please. We have been supporting this small business often the last couple of weeks. We have ordered breakfast, lunch and dinner from this little gem. I've had one of their breakfast skillets and biscuits and gravy. Both were very good. I've had their spaghetti and meatballs, prime rib, chicken Parmesan and a meatloaf dinner. All entrees are homemade and most come with a choice of soup, salad and a veggie. My favorite is the potato soup and the meatloaf. So good!!! Definitely tastes home made and fresh. Pick up is always fast and service is great. I've found to order early so food is fresh and they don't run out. My only complaint is that besides a choice of potato the only veggie they serve is peas. I love peas but I know most people don't. read more

Both my husband and I, as well as one of my BIL & SIL's moved to Newark about a year ago. Country Kitchen is in the middle for all of us. We have met here for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Each meal has been amazing! Some of our favorites are any of the omelettes, the BLT, French fries, broccoli soup, and chicken dumpling soup. All the waitresses are so sweet too. When I walked in the diner I was completely perplexed because it was the complete opposite of what I expected. I expected a diner atmosphere with a counter overlooking an open kitchen. Nope! The waitress obviously picked up on this by her facial expression and quipped... "sit anywhere". After the initial shock, I studied the extensive menu...too many choices! So, "Ham and Eggs please". When my breakfast arrived, my frown turned upside down! Ham cut off the bone! I was in Smoky Mountain Heaven! You know that you're in a real small town restaurant when you're the youngest one and the only person not wearing overalls and a trucker hat. Prices were a couple bucks cheaper than I'm used to as you'd be hard pressed to find an entree that was $10 or more. Even the steak and eggs were affordable as I believe were $8. I vied for the country fried steak that came with a potato side and 2 eggs, which was only $6.99. Never had country fried steak that had chunks of sausage on top of it, which was an added bonus. You simply can't beat that price and are guaranteed to walk out not wanting to think about food for a while. Everything tasted delicious by the way! That and 2 oj's came to $10. Local History lesson: The town was originally founded as Georgetown by George B. Hollenback about 1833. The name was changed in 1842 to avoid duplication of another Georgetown in east central Illinois. The town's name was possibly named directly for Newark N.J., but more likely for Newark Ohio, itself named for Newark, N.J. read more

This small town Jem has been around since 1954. It is a little family run local spot. There are about 10 booths and 5 tables. The decor was county hunting. I had the biscuit and gravy skillet. It came with two eggs over easy, cooked to perfection. It took over 10 minutes for the food to come out so it was cooked to order! It also came out with hot buttered toast, so attention was being paid to when everything was ready to serve. The gravy was light colored and plentiful. It mixed well with the base of hash browns. The staff was curious and welcoming. The attractive attentive waitresses made at least 10 passes with offers of coffee refills. This is the type of service you only find in small town places or over price city restaurants. Over all I would come back and head out of my way off of 80 or 55 to stop here for a bite to eat. read more

We saw this cute restaurant when we were out scouting peach orchards. There were a lot of cars in the lot and it was mid-afternoon so we took that as a good sign. We weren't disappointed! It's not fancy by any means, and I had to swipe silverware and condiments from another table, but we had a very decent meal there. I had the chicken salad sandwich and a cup of homemade chicken dumpling soup. Both were good, the soup especially so. I just love visiting and learning about a family restaurant like this. Owner is a stickler for quality food and goes hunting himself for the best. Nothing fancy on the inside and a great small town diner feel. Love the fact they open at 5:30am. Recently brought dinner hours back for Thu - Sat until 8 pm. Dawn is so friendly and the waitresses love to be busy here. They told me they only make mistakes when they're slow. Make a visit soon and be amazed with the love coming from the kitchen.
