Located 15 miles southwest of Midtown Manhattan, Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) is one of the primary airports serving the New York City region and a major international hub. It provides access to thirty major airlines. Each year, over 42 million passengers fly out from here. Last week, my partner and I left out of Terminal A, which was a brand-new, state-of-the-art terminal with 29 gates designated for domestic and regional flights via JetBlue. This was a repeat performance after 3 years for me but a first time for my partner. Once one clears security, you'll be on the upper level of the central plaza area, with expansive views of the departure hall. From the soaring ceilings to the plethora of natural light to the eye-catching artwork, the new terminal is simply stunning. Despite airports across the country facing long TSA checkpoints amid the partial government shutdown with spring break increasing travel across the country, we arrived very early, and it was manageable. Terminal A is very clean and organized. We went thru TSA/Clear+ under 5 mins. Many restaurants and stores along the walk to your gates. Plenty of seats for travelers. They also have a kids play zone which is a huge plus for family with small kids. read more

I actually came to Terminal A by accident because I was flying United and I didn't realize that I was supposed to go to Terminal C instead. Personally, I enjoyed going this way because the lines happened to be faster and the amenities were even better here. On top of that, the staff here told me that they had a shuttle after going through security that would take me to Terminal C. I'm only giving it four stars because the people at the TSA were really rude! This place is really modern and Crystal Clean all around. They had a meditation room which I thought was pretty cool. Restaurants were top notch, the restaurants and convenience stores were very nice too! Getting to the transfer station was very easy too after going through security. I don't know when I will actually fly out of Terminal A but I would happily come back here if I could. read more

No real lounges for sapphire reserve cardholders. Smaller city airports offer more and better amenities.

The terminal is nice and clean but every employee is just standing around laughing and chatting like they're at the bar, not really working, while people paying out the nose for a domestic flight are panicked about making it on time. Everything is self service, they just have useless humans standing around. If we're going to be paying this much for flights, at least give us a little bit of customer experience. read more

Terminal A is located in the Newark airport. It has quite a few nice shopping opportunities and restaurants. There is a shuttle and/or AirBus that will take you there. Or if your planes leaves from this Terminal, you can enjoy the shops. read more

So clean and bright! I had a longish layover so I was able to walk around and experience all the new details they have added. They did a great job. Everything is immaculate and signs make it easy to navigate. They don't get a 5 because the limited food/shop options n no lounges which I hope more are coming. read more

Terminal A was much nicer than expected: security was pretty organized, varied options for good and drink, lots of space to walk around, plus plenty of places to sit, people watch, or charge your devices. I've flown at the newer terminal a a few times. I'm glad that they've revamped it because it needed a facelift. This terminal has a lot of shops, restaurants, and a water filling station. The bathrooms were clean, there were a lot of seating areas and places to charge your electronics. We flew JetBlue and I didn't see any lounges, but I believe that United has one in this terminal. When arriving and then heading out to ground transportation, there are a lot of signs on the outside that easily direct your ride to getting you, but they definitely need to add their proper passenger pick up signs on the inside to make it easier for the travelers too. All in all, it's looking great and I wouldn't mind flying out of terminal a again. read more

Bottom line: Wow. Just wow. The new Terminal A at EWR is pretty darn impressive in itself but in comparison with older experiences through Terminal C, it's superlative. Signage can be a bit subtle in the Departures area. Staff encountered was helpful and positive. I like flying into/out of this part of EWR! The Deets: In my recent trip that had me flying into EWR, I flew into and then out of the new revamped Terminal A there at Newark Airport. I was a bit surprised as when I usually fly United into EWR, you can usually count on being at Terminal C. Not so this time, and wow, what a change! This new Terminal A is like day/night compared to the old Terminal C I had been accustomed to using here. Terminal A is...nice...new...spiffy...bright...clean...I dare say, more impressive as well as decidedly more modern than Terminal C I've used in the past. The only suggestion/point I'd raise is the signage needs to be more prominent when coming into the Departures area. I get it may appear more sleek if the signage is not so "in your face" but here, I think it is needed. Notably the staff along the areas I encountered were very helpful, delightfully as well as surprisingly so. TSA/CLEAR went very well, great flow, low stress. I liked the experiences here at the new Terminal A EWR and hope future flights have me going through here in the future. read more

My forst time flying and I had to leave out of the Newark airport. I have kept hearing that newark had many delays when trying to leave from this airport but i felt the process go very smoothly. I got in and was able to get my bag checked with no issue. Then getting in line to get into the airport was very long but i didnt stay there for more than 15-20 min. I was so nervous when i get to the check in that i dropped my ID behind the TSA agents desk!!! I was very embarrassed but they were so friendly. Incoming international flight process is horrible. As anywhere else, you have to grab your bags and recheck them for connecting flights. The routing is unclear and confusing. After you complete that, you must tram your way to another terminal and go through security all over again. Most airports allow you to stay in the secure zone. read more

Lots of confusion at this airport between the alarm going constantly off, and the baggage carousel not working. The airport is newly renovated however, there are a lot of homeless people in the airport and no security was present. The airport personnel in the baggage claim area were not very successful and it just seems like lots of confusion since the carousel was not working. You know you're in a big airport when you have to take a shuttle between terminals. It's one of the better terminals I've in. I mean, it's feels like all the terminals at LAX are either being repaired or just blocked off. PDX never has a restaurant open early in the morning and SEA is just the worst airport to get when driving. This terminal has plenty of restaurants and places to get a beer at 0700. There is a kids play area and pet relief station. I'm sure parents are thankful it's not the same place. I don't think there are any vending machines because they are a ton and a half of stalls and stores. I swear I must have walked past 20 coffee shops to get to my gate from where the shuttle dropped me off. Overall five stars. Large variety of different seating areas. Headed home only to find "everyone" from NYC is coming to Florida for spring break. That said terminal A is the new Newark Terminal. It is very nice with decent seats, food offerings on par with the new LaGuardia airport. The only negative to the terminal is the awful "air train" actually does not quite reach the terminal leaving you to go on a bus from the train or walking. Hopefully the airport will come up with a solution. read more

We arrived at Terminal A on Monday morning for our return flight from Charlotte. The terminal still kept its new and fresh look from the recent renovation. Lots of passengers were in the gates. Most restaurants and shops were open. Our luggage arrived at carousel with 10 minutes of arriving at baggage claim. The traffic wasn't crazy at the exit, our uber made it to pick up zone within few minutes. The waiting booths had heat on, that was very convenient for passengers waiting for their ride. read more

I know it is brand new and shiny, but I'm not a big fan, and it is hard to explain why. There is a lot of automation at the terminal, you can move through the various automatic gates with the help of your boarding pass. Sitting is okay, but if you prefer to sit and do some work as you can at terminal C, your options are very limited. Also note that food prices are simply obscene. I wanted to have breakfast at some sit down place, and just plain omelette there was $21, and this is before coffee, tax, tip, and god forbid you will decide to add a side. I get it, we have no choice of terminal when we travel, but at least you should be prepared. read more

Terminal A at Newark is a huge waste of money and one of the most inconvenient terminals in the country. It's particularly bad for United customers. What a pointless and awful terminal. Instead of building a terminal that met the needs of the flying public, the Port Authority built something that looks visually interesting. Who cares about the giant screen you see when you clear security when, by the time you see it, you've already had a confusing, time consuming nightmare? The layout of the terminal makes no sense and there are very few food choices because EWR decided the flying public is more interested in buying crap instead of dining preflight. It's a new terminal, so it's extremely confusing why having open space in the middle of the terminal made more sense that ensuring there was ample space at the gates. But the worst part of the insanity of this crap terminal is that they spent billions of dollars for a giant screen and other pointless decorative crap, but decided NOT to put it near the parking garage or the monorail. You have a 10-15 minute walk *outside* for the equivalent of more than a block with all of your luggage to get to the entrance of parking garage. Because they built the entrance in the far corner, you likely have more than another block to get to your car. But you won't find your car there if you fly United. No, odds are good United flew you out of Terminal C and returned you to Terminal A, or worse, they did it the other way around (flying out of A is unbelievably awful). It is onerous going between Terminal A and the rest of the airport. They aren't near each other at all and the monorail doesn't actually go to Terminal A. It drops off and picks up next to the nightmare hike to the parking garage. If you're flying United, you cannot drive to and from the airport unless you want a GIANT hassle when you return. You will not return to the same terminal and getting to your car will take you at least 45 minutes of dragging your luggage outside and then up and down the TWO elevators they built for one of the busiest airports in the country. In short, it sucks. A lot. read more

Finally got to try out Terminal A. What an improvement! Brightly lit, future forward design, and tons of restaurants and comfortable seating around the restaurants. I think they could do better with the accessibility of the place. There has to be a medium between wheelchair assistance, hoping a golf cart comes by, or praying for a close gate. My mama is getting older and a walk to the outer reaches of the planet AKA gates 118+ is a challenge. They need one of those people mover jawns. Security gates overall are much improved. Folks' attitudes could be better of course but that's just part of the experience I guess :/ read more

These new analogic tsa scanners are the bomb! Pun intended! They are shaped like jet engines and allow me to get thru security super fast. Don't have to take out all my various electronics like a laptop, Nintendo switch, ipad etc. Now, I can probably sleep in a little later instead of coming 4 hours early like an Asian grandpa. All the shops are new, they have beach style chairs, lots of charging stations, and the bathrooms look clean. The charging stations must've been shorted, or only the usb charging ports are working. My laptop can't even charge on the desks. read more

I get it, the terminal is amazing to look at and be engulfed in LED screens everywhere, but I gotta get to my gate! I don't fly out of Newark that often, but during this trip, the new terminal was very noticeable. I usually take NJ transit to get to this airport via the tram. I remember having the option to walk about 10 minutes to get to this terminal or take a shuttle. I opted to walk and check out the newness of everything, including lots of artwork. I didn't have an issue with signage and found my my gate without issue. There are tons of restaurants. I loved that they have small, local, owned small business shops representing NJ. On my return trip home, I didn't see an option for you to walk to the tram. We had to wait a little while for the shuttle bus to take us to the tram. Overall, I love that our airports are trying to catch up and modernize like a lot of international airports have already done. read more

Flew in for work recently... I was impressed with how spacious, clean, and new-looking Terminal A for American Airlines was. Then I learned it was recently renovated. Lots of nice places to grab a bite. There are lounges in this terminal too. Checking back in, the TSA security area is very new and hi-tech, but that tech slowed things down when I was coming through, as there was a lady who put her tote bag in the tray, standing up with many loose, small items in it and when the tray bumped, that bag fell over with many small items going into the wheels below the totes. This stopped everything for 15 mins while they cleaned up her mess and re-calibrated the machine. All the while, this silly lady was complaining about her glasses. If she had enough sense to not use a bag like that or close it in some way she wouldn't have inconvenienced us all. Otherwise - Nice, new terminal... Look forward to using it again soon! read more

United's Terminal A just opened a few months ago. It is huge. So far, it is also clean and bright. Not much in the was of friendly employees, but I also have earned, through experiences, low expectations in many airports. TSA was rather long and grueling. A TSA employee even ran into me with an empty wheelchair while I was putting my belongings in the trays for scanning. And, there was a 40 minute delay due to an airplane mechanical issue -- delays are not attpical. But, we made it safely and Newark is soooo much more convenient for Jersey residents than NYC airports. So, all is well. read more

A 2.7 billion facelift at Newark Airport Terminal A has earned them the World's Best New Airport Terminal Award by Skytrax. An honor that makes me proud to be a New Jerseyan. This was my first time flying out of this terminal. Flights taking off from here include United, Air Canada, American, JetBlue and Delta. First thing I noticed is the state-of-the-art technology. The serene design and artwork throughout the entire airport helped calmed me before my flight. I always get a bit of anxiety whenever I fly. The TSA line moved quickly and efficiently. There was no yelling. I saw one lady after putting all her stuff into a bin try to push it onto the moving rolling carousel and the TSA agent said...no need to push, it's automatic. As I was walking to my gate, I was loving all the different ergonomic chairs. The flower tree designs put a smile on my face. Two restaurants that caught my eye were Guy Fieri's Flavortown Kitchen & Bar and Burger Fi (a Florida chain). U.S. airports has a lot of catching up to do compare to the ones in Asia, this is a good start. I flew out on JetBlue and wow, from the boarding to the takeoff it was right on time.
