Many, including myself, have highly praised this pizza shop located in Vinton, Virginia for its high-quality New York-style pizzas, but did you know that besides pizzas, they make the most amazing Cheese Steak Subs around. After having been selected as number 4 of Yelp's Top 50 most prolific Elites of 2025, a year when I also was awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Photographer of the Year Award at their Yelpies 2025 Award Ceremony, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, and where last year I was awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Yelper of the Year Award, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and businesses, and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to uncover those found in hidden paths that for one reason or another have not reached the public in its totality. And New York Pizza in Vinton, Virginia, is a perfect example. The other day I felt like having one of their Cheese Steak Subs which they call "Cheese Steak Special," and contain steak, cheese, mushrooms, fried onions & green peppers. Yet, I didn't feel like going out. So I got my cellphone and ordered one through the DoorDash app. At $16.95, plus tax, delivery fees, and tip, it might seem expensive for a foot long sub delivered, but when you think of the satisfaction you will get from its taste, it becomes priceless. At least to me it is, for when I consider the fresh, soft bun it comes in, the high-quality of the seasoned steak chopped in little pieces (to give it more flavor), in very generous amount, and the other fresh ingredients, together with the flavorful cheese, it totally makes my day. I'm filled up after having a extremely tasty sub. It was delivered hot (inside a styrofoam clamshell that are considered excellent for keeping hot foods hot) by a friendly DoorDasher who arrived in the promised time, providing exceptional customer service by storing it in a special container to further keep it hot along the way, ringing my doorbell, and thanking me for the order and the tip I left for him through DoorDash. This place is a large, older-looking building with a sign saying it was expanding into the next door building which would make it quite large. On a nice evening, I ordered to-go. They got me my pizza on schedule. This Sicilian pizza was colossal, filling a large pizza box corner to corner. It had significant heft. Ordering peppers and mushrooms got me preserved versions of both; I prefer fresh vegetables but the ones here did not overwhelm the taste of the pizza and delivered some helpful contrasting textures. For the price, I'll end up getting something close to four meals, which is quite good. Ordering a basic salad yielded iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and peppers, with a side of breadsticks. Darker lettuce varieties generally taste better and offer more nutritionally, but this salad served my needs. People whose special dietary needs preclude things like wheat and dairy are not going to find much here. Everyone else will find satisfying food. read more

let me start off by saying I've been eating at this establishment for over 25 years. They used to be my number one choice for cheesesteak subs but tonight was my order not only made wrong, but it turned into a very disrespectful and lengthy argument with the woman at the register about the validity of my complaint after I call and then come back up there and bring the sub that was made wrong. I'm told by her several times that because I use the word hoagie I ordered a cheese steak hoagie, which in there worlds means a cheesesteak with lettuce, tomato onion on it, but in the rest of the world, a hoagie just means a sub or a grinder or a sandwich, but because I use the word hoagie and followed up with, " I would like a cheesesteak hoagie cheese and steak only please" but because the word hoagie was apparently used ( even tho I have no recollection of phrases my subs like that in my whole life lol ) , she can make it the way they want to make it and I have to like it, and that I can't remove any of the ingredients whether it kills me or my kid to the hospital a severe allergic reaction but if I use word hoagie, then that totally surpasses anything said big fight about it after I spent $40 and it was absolutely a nightmare of an experience. Heard good things about their food and my wife and I decided to check it out today. I will start with the good. The place has the smell of a NYC pizza joint and we order several slices of pizza. The numbered piece of cardboard should have been the first sign. We went to sit at a table after ordering and about 1/4 of the tables were not cleaned up with prior customers waste. My number 63 cut cardboard box was called and I picked up our slices. The crust was NY style thin, the sauce was ok but the cheese was low grade mozzarella and under cooked. My wife got mushrooms (straight from a can and store bought pepperoni slices on her slice. By the time we were done about half the tables were dirty even though the staff was just talking behind the counter. The last straw of when I knew I had been here twice (first and last time) was when my wife brought our plates and beer mugs up to the counter and the lady said that you don't bring that to us you leave it on the table, when I said all their tables were dirty, she replied leave it on the table and pushed them back at my wife. read more

Business had different hours for the holiday which is understandable and were stated on their social media. However, I tried calling to place an order, no answer. Contiuned to drive to location before closing time and when I walked in to place order about 30 minutes before they closed, they said that they stopped taking orders an hour before closing time. This was not stated anywhere. This is a tradition that we have done for several years by ordering pizzas from this location while family is visiting for the holiday. The staff was not helpful and didn't offer any apologies for not taking my order. Reached out to them on social media and was met with the same attitude as the counter. This is hands down my families favorite place to get pizza and this was a disappointment to drive so far and then told that they would not take an order. This pizza place came highly recommended by a friend who lives in Roanoke. We ordered a large Special Sicilian style pizza. The Special includes pepperoni, beef, Italian sausage, green peppers, mushrooms, and onions. Because it was Sicilian style, the slices were thick crust squares piled high with toppings! They uniquely put the toppings underneath the cheese and this helped to hold all the toppings in place. It was very filling and we had plenty leftover. We also got two slices of cheesecake. While we ordered blueberry cheesecake, we received just regular cheesecake without any toppings. The flavor was still excellent, with a creamy cheesecake filling on a sweet, crumbly graham cracker crust. Overall I really enjoyed New York Pizza and with such a large menu, I will definitely be ordering from them again. read more

My wife and I stopped by New York Pizza for some lunch. When we entered we approached the order station and were greeted by the staff. Very polite and friendly. I ordered the steak sub and my wife had the meatball sub. Both were amazing. Everything was homemade and well priced. This has now become our favorite pizza place in Roanoke. We have ordered several times since our first visit for pizza take out. We haven't had a bad pizza at all. The Sicilian pizza is one of my favorites while my wife enjoys the Neapolitan style. Let me start with the star of the show at New York Pizza: the pizza. Paul ordered a Hawaiian pizza, and although I am not usually a Hawaiian pizza fan, I had a slice and was impressed. New York pizza's crust and cheese were especially spot on. The cannoli and Italian dressing also deserve honorable mentions. Now for the negative feedback. The friend who recommended New York pizza spoke highly of their Philly cheesesteak, so I opted for that. Unfortunately, I found everything about it completely underwhelming. The breadsticks were pitiful, and the use of all iceberg lettuce in the salad was a real shame. Their numbering system for orders is s disaster, and the poor ventilation leaves patrons smelling unfortunate for hours after their visit. But the pizza is good, so there's that. YUM! I love this place and so miss it since I've moved away. Fortunately my family all still lives in Roanoke so when I'm in town, they know I want to eat here. Their pizzas and calzones are very good but I am a fan of their hot subs. I typically get the chicken sub with the shredded lettuce, onion and tomato. It is to die for as far as I'm concerned. My husband favors their pizza. It tends to get a little loud and crowded, especially on Friday nights; and kiddie sports teams appear to favor having pizza parties here, but otherwise the food makes up for the noise and annoyance. They have tvs in the seating area and some arcade games to play. Service is fairly prompt unless they are very busy, then you might be waiting a while smelling other people's food while you're hungry. Either way, we never leave hungry or unhappy. read more

The Stromboli was ok but they use frozen spinach which taste just terrible. The old world pizza skip that for sure the crust is all wet and it uses a lot of garlic.
