Dr Patel does listen and will work with you which is great, however I've been here for 5 appointments and I have waited over 2 hours in the waiting room every single time before waiting longer in the examining room, once waiting 3 hours. They consistently say "we're running behind today" but it's clearly the standard. Be prepared to spend half your day here. read more

Don't waste your time. I arrived to a very crowded waiting room and was told it would be a 45 minute wait, as there were seven patients ahead of me. This tells me that a.) each patient is going to get about six minutes of care and b.) this doctor doesn't care if his patients have to wait a long time. Had an comeback appointment about 3 months ago but the office called me a day prior and told me that doctor won't be there that day. Said they will reach back to me to reschedule. 3 months today they called me and asked what's good. I told them that I'm really disappointed with them and won't come back. Referred for infected finger, first visit on 4/30/24 and second on 5/21/24 for result of MRI. Wait time was about an hour even though not many patients there. Called into the room and waited about half an hour. Only saw PA, after speaking to him on 5/21/24 of the MRI result he left to get name of dermatologist. He forgot I was waiting for more than a half hour when I came out looking for him, he apologized and I said I did not want dermatologist. He said he would like to see me in four months. My experience with NYHS has been nothing but positive. My initial visit was very informative and Dr. Patel was patient with all of my questions and informed me of various solutions. He is one of the few surgeons who is not in a rush to perform surgery if there is a possibility of another alternative. He explained my choices and monitored my progress with great attention. Eventually, he made the suggestion of surgery when the timeframe was up. He explained what possibilities could arise without the surgery but did not make me feel as if he was forcing me to have it. I had the surgery and saw progress within 10 days. I'm still doing my hand therapy and I know that my injury will take time to heal but I've come a long way since day one. Like a flight to Las Vegas on a private jet : everything on time, no hustle, no pain. In fact, I even did not take a single pain tablet after the surgery. Went to Dr. Vipul Patel in Brooklyn New York for a consultation. I found him from checking on your app/ website - https://www.zocdoc.com/doctor/vipul-patel-md-109106 According to zocdoc, he was in network with my insurance. When I visited his website (https://www.nyhanddoctor.com/vipul-patel-md/visited the doctors webpage ) under 'book appointment 'it directly lead me to zocdoc. Before the visit, I called the office multiple times to confirm that he is covered under my insurance. And every time I received 'yes', and therefore I went ahead to visit him. Wait time was about an hour. There were so many patients at the lobby that there weren't enough sitting area, some people had to stand and wait. I went to see him and NO ONE questioned about him not covered under my insurance. I paid my copayment as if I was at any other MD offices in network. I signed all the papers trusting that there wasn't any issue. However I recently found out that his service is not covered with my insurance - that he is actually out of network. If they had mentioned that the I was going to be an out of network patient, I would have walked out and declined his service. Trust is incredibly importance when it comes to taking care of health. I Strongly advise you to find another doctor/doctor's office that can treat patients with honesty. read more

I had pain in my knee. Went to Dr Patel. As I live not far away. I called on Wednesday. They needed to verify my insurance.... payment. Received a call back 2 hours later with a confirmation. An appointment was made for today March 5. I was delighted. First time there. I was asked to come 15-20 min early for the forms. My appointment was for 1:15. 3 other ppl in the waiting room. At 1:18 I was called in. Was checked out. Got an injection for my knee. Was out by 2:15 very friendly respectful good vibes and pleasant. I am glad I made the appointment by him. Deceptive business practices. On ZocDoc they claim to take my insurance but when I arrived I was asked to sign a form that stated "I understood' that they did not take my insurance. The office manager said Dr. Patel "stopped taking some insurances very recently." As recently as the day before when I scheduled the appointment? I don't appreciate being lied directly to my face. She tried to convince me to see the doctor anyway. I declined. Trust is incredibly important when seeing a doctor. You won't establish it here. Beware! They are scam artists. They took my insurance card, and did the usual - copied it, and collected my co-pay. At no time before the exam and x-ray did they tell me they didn't accept my insurance. Once diagnosed, they told me my insurance would not cover the custom cast I needed. That was fine, and I agreed to pay for the cast out of pocket. Imagine my surprise when I received a bill for an additional $500 for the exam and x-ray, when they'd never let me know they didn't accept my insurance. I later found out that a colleague of mine had the same experience. Steer clear at all costs. read more

First things first be prepared for meter parking. Parking Is not good for the amount of time you might have to spend there. Second Dr Patel is very nice and knew exactly what I needed and what the problem was with my wrist once I explained my symptoms. There is a Dr. Gloria who was soooo nice and helpful. The X-Ray Tech was nice as well. I don't Have any complaints besides the fact that I had to pay for a splint that to me was a bit costly. I understand it was custom made and that cost money but it wasn't part of my plan. The treatment Dr Patel suggested definitely made a difference. I would definitely recommend this location. Just remember parking stinks and it's a bit of a drive if you are coming from Queens. Oh and the wait wasn't too bad especially for a new patient. read more

Following up on my original review because apparently as of earlier this summer, the office is under new management. Clearly, the original management, office, and in particular the billing coordinators were the culprits, so with new management I was willing to take their call. They reached out about my review and wanted to correct the problem. We settled the open bill (still more than I would have paid had the original management been forthcoming about being out-of-network), but much less than originally billed. They apologized for the confusion and issues I had. I found the new management to be much more honest, transparent, responsive and professional. Just want to report that I had a pleasant experience at Dr. Patel's office. The front desk staff were cheerful and efficient, the waiting areas and bathrooms were very clean, the doctor and PA tended to my injury appropriately. I did wait an hour, but I had made the appointment only a few days before due to some sudden pains in my wrist - I had first gone to an Urgent Care office- so I was glad to get an appointment quickly, even if I had to wait. One issue for me is that my insurance did not cover the $150 molded wrist brace that was made for me in the office. I don't know if other insurance plans cover such items, but one wonders who is making the profit here. I will say the process of making the brace did seem to involve a fair amount of skill. read more

First let me say Dr. Patel is AMAZING!!! He alone would be 10 stars!! His bedside manner in the office and the operating room is magnificent. This is the type of doctor you wish you had at every interface. Secondly, the three stars are because his staff really suck and the wait time is appalling. Front Desk: No one greets you, no smile, nothing, just dead faces. Wait Time: There is no logical reason to have patients wait over an hour for an appointment. Our time is just as valuable as the doctors. If this wasn't an emergency situation I would have left but alas we are at the mercy of the facility. But when you ask about wait times, the response is "I don't know", and then they ignore you while you are still standing there. Physicians Assistant: Again no greeting, no pleasantries, nothing! She asked us some questions, but kept interrupting while we are answering with more questions. Can you let us answer the initial 10 questions first? We finished the initial questions and screening was waiting for the doctor. By this time I WAS LIVID. Enters Dr. Patel.....And everything was groovy again. He was pleasant and cordial but efficient. He examined my nephews hand, took some x-rays and explained his diagnosis. It was not what we wanted to hear, but he gave us all the scenarios and then the next steps. This is a perfect example of where American medicine is headed, the doctor seeing as many people as possible in one day... milking insurance companies, workers comp, & the system. physical therapy offices upstairs does the same! full of unprofessional employees who won't put down their cell phone and are disrespectful to patients. About a year ago I began to notice pain and tingling in my right and left hand. At a certain point it began to bother me so much that I decided to see Dr. Patel. This is what happened next. I enter his office and fill out the usual forms you are asked to fill out as a new patient. I am on Medicare being over 65 years of age. After waiting for around 45 min. I am called into a room where an assistant asks me why I am here. I explain to her how my hands are tingling and i think it sounds like carpal tunnel . She then tells me to wait for the Dr. About 15 min later Dr. Patel comes into the room. He begins to ask me why I am here but he is then interrupted by his assistant who needs him. So before he leaves he says "take xrays and send him down stairs for 2 splints. One for each hand. I am then taken into a room where they take no less then 20 xrays of my wrists and then send me down stairs for two casts for my hands. So i am sitting down stairs and I realize that I have been pushed through a process without ever really talking to the Dr. At this point I go back up stairs and ask to speak to Dr Patel . He sees me and tells me that in addition to the two casts that he has prescribed he would like me to come in for some further testing. Now heres the thing. At no point was cost ever discussed. No-one ever told me what this was going to cost me after my Medicare deduction. It turns out that after Medicare I still received a bill for over 300.00 dollars. The splints were unwearable The xrays told me what I already know, that i have arthritis and I wound up going to Neergard pharmacy where I bought hand supports for 25 dollars that I could actually use . So If you are still planning to visit Dr. Patel here are some suggestions: 1. Ask questions 2. How much will this cost me 3. Don't just go through the process blindly like I did. Ask lots of questions. If you don't you will be receiving bills for amounts that you never expected. I hope this helps . And by the way, I have two worthless splints sitting in my closet if anyone wants them. read more

I don't usually write reviews on yelp particularly for medical services as usually Zocdoc and healthgrades are the go to for that. But I wanted to post here regarding Dr. Patel and the extremely positive experience I had with him as my provider. I went to two other doctors for an orthopedic issue and had very confusing and conflicting recommendations. I drove into the city to see Dr. Patel as a recommendation from a colleague and brought my MRI and chart results with me. Dr. Patel was able to diagnose me immediately and to my surprise it was what the other two doctors had missed and had delayed my recovery. Dr. Patel was even kind enough to put me in for surgery that very same week. It has been a few months now and I'm doing great and back to work. Dr. Patel is the kind of doctor that we saw in old movies where they would take a personal interest in each of their patients health outcomes. He even called me just a few days after my surgery and spoke with my partner to see how I was doing. How often can we say this happens today? I've read reviews that his office is always filled and I'm not surprised- patients line up and wait to see him because he is worth the wait!... Thank you so much Dr. Patel you're a true gem. I'm so happy to be back at work, the gym and to my normal routine again. read more
