At a time when insurance companies and the government have failed us by cutting back in healthcare , Dr. Steven Horowitz and his staff at BPO have come to the rescue. Their service and care in is going in the opposite trend of the norm. For starters you can actually call your Dr. and ask a question. Only a family member can be as compassionate as they are. I received a call and a text to remind me of my appointment. Most Doctors over book and would not even notice that I missed my appointment. Not at BPO After being 15 min late I got the call "Are you ok" Most importantly when I received my treatment, I felt instant relief. Dr. Horowitz just knows how to get the job done right. read more

This place is an absolute scam fest and you should avoid at all costs. I broke my hand and was told that I was being scheduled with a HAND specialist who was IN NETWORK. I called to double check before I got there and was told yes - he is both a hand specialist and is in network. I get there, wait an hour and half past my appointment time before being seen - and have a stack of paperwork to complete/sign (with my broken hand...so I could hardly hold a pen). I get to a page asking if I consent to pay for out of network visits and I DID NOT SIGN IT. I brought it to the front desk and I said I'm not signing that part because I was told he is in network. She said - "yes - he is in network so you don't have to worry about that". Fast forward an 90 min of my waiting past my appointment time for him to finally see me... he tells me he isn't a hand specialist and is not in network. Refers me to a different doctor and pulls up Amazon on his computer and tells me to buy a cast there in the meantime. I left and found a great doctor elsewhere the next day - told this practice to cancel any future appointments and to definitely not bill me for wasting my time, misinforming me and literally lying to me repeatedly. NOW - I get a bill in the mail for out of network visit and despite my calls and emails with them before and after this visit... they billed my insurance and me. I refused to sign the form consenting to that billing and they still did it. I can't tell if it's negligent or fraudulent but either way it is completely unacceptable since I have been following up repeatedly since. To this day, they are still not getting back to me but are sending bills in the mail. Imagine if you showed up 90 minutes late to an appointment? They were 90 minutes late seeing me... during my work day that I had to miss hours of work for... and then this??? NEVER GO HERE. THEY ARE A SCAM, it is fraud, and I'll put every penny they're trying to steal from me into spreading the word before I ever pay them. Nice job! The Newkirk Avenue office treats patients like second class citizens. I arrived on-time for a 12:30 appointment. At 2:00 pm, I requested a refund of my $40 co-pay as it still wasn't clear when I would be seen by Dr. Cohen. It wasn't my first visit to this establishment. I think Dr. Cohen is quite competent. The practice is simply poorly managed. I had a long wait beyond my appointment time the last time (pre-Covid) as well. Social distancing was purely voluntary. I find it inexcusable and unacceptable to have to wait 2 hours when you have an appointment. These people actually think it's normal to devalue the time of their customer. The staff is borderline rude, even by Brooklyn standards. I'm looking for a new Ortho group. I just don't have time to waste on poor service. read more

I was referred here by urgent care for an AC separation and I had one of the worst, if not the worst visit with a Dr. HARI GUPTA, that I have ever had with a supposed medical "professional." From the moment he walked in the doctor was arrogant, condescending, and dismissive to me and my injury. It was plainly obvious from his body language and his manner that he did not want to be there. He was on his phone the entire time, pulling it out to look at it while I was speaking and while he was giving me a diagnosis. Speaking of the diagnosis, he asked me a single question about how my injury occurred and did not listen or let me finish a complete answer. He briefly (think maybe 5 seconds) clicked thru the x rays provided by urgent care, and then directed me to unsling my injured arm. He roughly manhandled me to "assess" the injury and than basically told me to wait 6 weeks and if it was still bad to come back to do more tests. He gave me absolutely no information about the injury or prognosis or generally what to expect moving forward. When I specifically asked, the doctor was impatient, talked down to me, and generally treated me like I was an idiot. His answers were also extremely short and from my perspective, incomplete as they did not actually answer any of the questions I had asked. I do not normally write reviews but the last straw for me was afterwards, Dr. HARI GUPTA walked out of the room shouting to me from the hallway to meet him up front. My arm, my dominant, my injured arm, was still unslung at the time. Again from the hallway the Doctor yelled that I should "wear the sling." He did not offer to help me put the sling on. Something that is still a very painful and clumsy process for me without the use of my right arm. He could not even be bothered to wait in the room with me while I struggled to resling my arm by myself. Instead, he just shouted orders at me from outside the room (again while on his phone). I do not recommend. I do not trust the diagnosis I was given since the doctor seemingly failed to collect even basic information about me or my injury. I am looking for a second opinion from someone who presents basic competency skills and will attempt to treat me like a human being. read more

The professional and highly competent doctors at Brooklyn Premier Orthopedics (BPO) have given me hope for a brighter future!! I too must agree with the other reviewers here who rate this place with 0-2 stars. I was referred there by our health insurance due to there not being many places near us. And this office is a not-fun 40 minute drive still! It looks more like a discount store in a strip mall than a doctors office, truly. You are not in Manhattan! You just have to keep reminding yourself. Picture a huge lobby filled with very poor sick and old people, a TV turned to static, a bare white tile floor with the stark hot BKLN sunlight bouncing off of it half-blinding you, disgruntled staff workers behind big plastic barriers as if any minute someone is going to come in with a gun and try to rob them (?). The workers are sad, over-busy, tired, frantic, overworked, underpaid and grumpy about it. They know it and so do you. You cannot help but feel sorry for them. It's a sad experience. You can call, but it will take repeated calls to get someone to call you back. When you do reach them, you may have to politely ask "I'm sorry can you repeat that?" multiple times because their english is so bad, accents so strong. They do not work on weekends. Nor do they have a method for you to reach them. If you have an emergency and NEED your doctor, the call service tells you to "go to the ER because the doctors here don't respond to voicemails or call service messages on the weekends. Not even for prescription refills." NOT kidding! They literally leave you without medication for three day weekends! And readily admit to it. It's truly shocking. Or shockingly true. Take your pick. The bedside manner of the doctors and nurses in the tiny rooms you're shoved in is so casual that you'd think you were in the back kitchen of a small diner... they discuss their personal lives or what they did on the weekends or the medical status of other patients in front of you. It's chill inducing unprofessional. The doctor who was assigned to me, no need to name names, missed TWO different appointments we had scheduled. On one of them, he was "running late" so another doctor who had NO knowledge of my case history at all filled in for him and we ultimately accomplished nothing on that call. The second time he just flat out never showed up. I had to call to see if he was ever going to call in to the zoom meeting we had scheduled. But even after calling, the receptionist God love him had to tell me "honestly sir I'm sorry but he probably won't make it to this appnt today..." Surreal. And still to this day though my various spinal issues have been explained to us by our radiologists, chiropractors and neurosurgeon, we have still not received a diagnosis or explanation of my issues from THIS doctor. He just keeps telling me to come in for "injections". Though YOU have to call them repeatedly to get that appointment. Because they'll say they'll call you to schedule it, but they never do. All of this is to say, if this sounds appealing to you, great! Knock yourself out. You'll love it If you're a normal person, you'll be as horrified as the rest of us. ONE CAVEAT -- there is a doctor there named Dr Peacock who is pretty cool. Met with him a few times. Smart guy. Knows his stuff. Nice person. Took time and explained things well. There seems to be a general lack of organization and appreciation for patients or their time here. My appointment with Dr. Raz Winiarsky was for 2pm today from a referral. I arrived 20 minutes early for my first appointment to make time for the paperwork. And there was a lot of paperwork, including forms to sign to say that I, and my family, had financial interest in the orthopedic equipment used, and that I understood the doc would be prescribing opioids. Needless to say I signed neither, and when I informed the receptionist, she just told me, sure, don't sign any of it if you don't want to. Then why is it there? Most people probably just sign out of inertia and don't read what they are signing... An hour after my appointment time, I was still waiting, and the receptionist told me there were 2 patients still ahead of me and that they were "a little" behind. I chose to leave and cancel my appointment to make it to PT elsewhere -- at least I know my PT appointment would be helpful. read more

The staff at this place is beyond the pale awful. Dr. Weiss was decent - although didn't seem especially experienced with athletes. So if you're looking for a sports medicine type he's probably not your guy. The front desk staff are, for the most part, comically unfriendly. For whatever reason, they are always sure to convey that they despise you for coming there. Imagine being at the DMV on its worst day and you've pretty much got it. Went to see a doc (Simhaee) there for an upper back problem and got a (useless and unsolicited) hip&lower back examination and advice (which was immediately invalidated by his friend/surgeon). A major waste of time. However, what caused me to write this review is my inability to reach the office via their only phone number listed, on multiple occasions. The office was supposed to be open at 9am, it's noon now and the greeting still says "the office is now closed". This place has no clue what they are doing, especially front desk people. All they want is you money. First of all it's this facility running 2 business & I had no idea. I went to see Jag one Physical Therapy & I had referral letters which I should to them but instead of sending it to other side of the office. They took us in made us see orthopedic & made my wife pay co-pay & then send us to Jag one, which we had referrals & appointment. When I finally figured it out, it was too late & they refused to give my money. Not only that I even lost whole week of appointment & now I have to wait another week to get appointments to my physical therapist. I address this issue to the manager & she was so rude & basically said they got the money & u got the service & nothing they can't do. At this point, I'm don't care abt the copay that we paid. I was very hesitant to come here because of all the negative reviews. I reluctantly decided to go with this place because it was closest to home and walking with a broken foot in a cast in the middle of a NYC blizzard is a headache. I was pleased to find the negative reviews were probably isolated incidents. The staff seemed to have good chemistry with each other and indulged in conversation. But I saw that as more of a happy work environment than a neglectful one, as it did not get in the way of the work itself. I overheard them handling some very difficult people in a professional and courteous manner. I think maybe some people come here on edge because they expect a horrible experience. I came in peace and everyone treated me just as well as the crankier patients. All the doctors and assistants were very courteous, informative, and warm. They even gave me a little discount ! Even their student assistant (I think that's what she was) laughed at my dumb jokes. So I laughed at hers back. I'm actually looking forward to returning for my follow ups! read more

This has been by far the worst experience I've ever had visiting a specialized medical facility. I came there on the 8th, arrived 30 mins prior to my appointment so I could complete all the necessary documents as a new visitor. My appointment was at 1:15 pm I got there at 12:45 pm. I sat there for more than 40 mins waiting to see a doctor, while in severe pain as I had a T4/T5 LUMBAR SPINE injury which made it impossible to sit for long periods. After I complained to the desk and ask what my options were should I need to reschedule, I was looked at , as if I were annoying their private conversation, only to tell me that I still had two people in front of me. With no options or resolve. It's now 2 pm and I finally get called, I sit down with an assistant and a P.A Who practically rushed through the process and informed me that I would need to get an MRI. In order for me to get this MRI, they would need to contact my insurance and get it approved and promised a follow up 2-3 days from the day I visited. Today marks 7 days later and I received no follow up. I decide to call and see what happened? Upon getting in contact with a desk agent, who answered the phone very carelessly at 3:30 pm today, as if they were working a supermarket intercom instead of a phone at a specialty medical facility. She then puts me back on hold without even telling me to hold. Then comes back on the phone to tell me that they have forward my message to the right contact. How, you never varified my name, number, or file. Then when I ask, she tells me it's not her job and the right contact would follow up. In a very dismissive manner. I'm so livid right now as I feel that not only my time but my physical well being is being toyed with. If you take your time and your health seriously, I would advise you to not walk into this unprofessional establishment. Did not give the level of service and care a patient deserves. Gave me an appointment to see one doctor and had me see another with a different specialty. After being assured they took my private health insurance, I learned they did not after 2 appointments. The office staff seemed lackadaisical and did not provide the friendly and efficient customer service you find in most medical offices these days. They never contacted me as promised regarding getting a brace. I had to follow up and there was a delay. My second visit was worse. I was told the day before that I was scheduled to be seen at the Newkirk Ave office after being told when I made the appointment it would be in Manhattan. If I could give them a zero rating, I would. Took my 85 year old mother here for a follow up appointment after a partial hip surgery with Dr. Heitman. We arrived at 10:45am for an 11:15am appointment. Upon entry temperatures are taken by a greeter that does not adhere to social distance rules in the age of COVID. The waiting room is overcrowded and people can not social distance. At 12:15pm, we were still waiting to see the doctor and I was told that there were still people ahead of us. I decided to get my mother's $30 copay refunded and get her and myself out of there. How can you have a waiting room that is that packed in the age of COVID?? Is it because of the community that it is located in? One has to ask that question. That nobody cares. Do you not care about your own safety? I will never go back here.
