I was a guest of a member during the 18-inch snow storm, so I wore my $500 dollar suede Danner lights (Made in the USA) to manage the snow. Upon entry, I was informed by the staff that, due to the suede being too light, it looked too much like Timberland boots, which are banned. I was professionally whisked to a backroom, where I was offered to wear black loafers 3 sizes too large if I wanted to make my appointment. I spent the rest of my time skipping through the venue in order to not trip over myself, wearing massively oversized shoes. I would have been okay with this footwear restriction if it was universally enforced, but there were plenty of people in the club wearing duck boots, metal hook leather hiking boots, and even the same type of boots of a slightly darker shade. Apparently, the shoe shade restriction was not something members are aware about (the no sneakers restriction is well known). I have previously been a guest here with positive experiences. However, today I was put in an illogically unsafe experience, forced to wear loaner shoes 3 sizes too large, because $500 lighter suede boots are deemed less classy than duck boots for being too"Timberland like" during a snow storm.

I changed locations to the 42nd Street club, where I had no issues, but eventually canceled my membership. I did report these concerns to the manager at the 42nd Street location, but I felt I also needed to put this on the record. There is simply no place for this kind of behavior toward paying members. Members deserve to be treated with respect and professionalism. I hope someone in senior management looks into these issues so the club can improve.

As a global traveler, having been to many of their locations, what they offer no longer speaks to me. Compared to actual country clubs, and even many other mass-marketed gyms it is without question, a downmarket option. And it is in my mind without question more of a gym than anything. I've had rotator cuff issues and foot problems after a minor injury, and working with knowledgeable fitness professionals is a good way to continue building muscles and maintaining mobility without triggering anything. I highly recommend trying out the Gyrotonics machine. I've been doing private pilates on machines for 4 years, and gyro is a great complementary to pilates though not a lot of people know about it. I was so excited to see that this was available at this Equinox! Maura is pleasant to work with and I like that I can do both gyro and pilates with her, whatever I feel like doing or what I need for that week. Also here's a shoutout to Teresa, a true professional who knows her stuff and is attentive to the client's goals. Probably the best PT I've worked with so far. I've worked with different personal trainers for 10 years on-and-off, had decent ones and not-so-decent ones in and out of Equinox. If you work with a PT, you want someone who listens, knows their anatomy/kinesiology where they know exactly what exercises to give you, and won't be gimmicky or socially inappropriate. I have learned to become very selective about who I spend my time with now, and not only is Teresa very knowledgeable about the exercises she picks and how to pace and execute them, but she's also a pleasant person to be around. I've been working with her twice a week for several months now and just bought another 48-package. One star removed but that's mostly due to the facilities themselves. The infrastructure is a bit outdated and the air conditioning is out of commission often, but I heard that will be fixed within a year as they're switching to more energy efficient infrastructure.

I also contacted Emma Marr and even provided screenshots proving that I had reported the incident right after it happened. Despite this, I received no meaningful response for several days. I had to send multiple follow-up emails just to get a reply. When Emma finally responded, she claimed that if I wanted any action to be taken, I should have reported the incident at the time. This response was unacceptable because I did report it immediately. The screenshots I provided clearly prove that. Instead of acknowledging the report and apologizing for the delay, I was made to feel as though I had done something wrong. No member paying premium membership fees should have to chase management for days after reporting a safety concern. Member safety should always be the highest priority, and concerns like these deserve prompt, professional, and respectful attention. Because of the way this situation was handled, I have completely lost confidence in Equinox Hudson Yards. Emma Marr's lack of urgency, poor communication, and failure to properly address a legitimate safety complaint fall far below the standards I would expect from a luxury fitness club. I sincerely hope Equinox's senior management reviews how this matter was handled and takes meaningful steps to ensure that future safety complaints are treated with the seriousness, professionalism, and respect that every member deserves.

The Lifeguards were circling the pool constantly and show great care and compassion for an elderly man who is a regular and needs extra TLC. Stop complaining or leave! Only crutch is the lack of parking around the area, but there is always parking a bit further, if you are willing to walk three blocks(count it as a warm up and cool down). The entrance is definitely shady, but you won't be let down when you enter. This is a preferred club for competitive/amateur level players in the area, and is never empty closer to 5pm, so you don't need to worry about no one being there to play.

The actual tables are professional-grade, and there are actually plenty of them spread throughout an enormous indoor facility. I liked the feel of the high ceilings while I played (or at least ATTEMPTED to play haha). Even though this place was popular on a weeknight around 7-8pm, the size of the facility didn't make me feel cramped. Checking out the rest of NYISC, I saw an indoor soccer field - which is a rare sight in a place such as Flushing. I don't play soccer, but I would recommend this space for soccer teams and friends looking to play a match or serious game. My boyfriend and I also wandered to the 'Pro Shop' in the sports club. They sold all different professional ping pong products from brands such as Butterfly (famous ping pong product manufacturer). We didn't purchase anything, but I did sign up for private lessons with one of the renowned & accomplished coaches. The pricing was for a set of 10 lessons and were more than affordable. The coaches were all world ranked, and have competed in Olympics, etc. Maybe one day I'll be able to at least keep up in a game with my boyfriend, lol. LAST THING: People here are very open and friendly. What you lift Friday is based on your performance on Monday and Wednesday, all individually tailed from your coach. (As opposed to say an oly wod where you snatch one day and front squat the next, and tracking and weight/rep adjustment is mostly on you). If you want to get measurably stronger with professionals guiding you *specifically* every step of the way with constant personalized feedback, this is the quickest way to do it.
